Blackbird, we always had firecrackers when I was a child. We also used to ride our bikes behind the truck that came and sprayed for mosquitoes, too. We'd scoop up the frost or tiny bit of snow that might fall (Mobile) and pour Orange Soda over it to make homemade ice cones. It's amazing we're even alive! LOL

Jim, I'd love to see your drawings. I love to draw floral garden designs but don't have the money to follow through with my plans. Oh well... in heaven Gina and I are going to garden together.

Blackbird,,in truth, I have never set alight a firecracker. The big day for fireworks in England was Guy Fawkes Day, when people would burn effigies of Guy Fawkes and set off fireworks.

In Canada, they have fireworks on two days now: Canada Day (July 1st) and Queen Victoria's birthday (May 24th). When I came back from Korea, I couldn't stand the noise and glare from fireworks and avoided them. I think if you talk to most veterans, you will find a similar experience.

Diane: Part of doing architectural work includes an artist's concept of how the house looks in its setting. I used to do this with oils or watercolours, but my hands can barely hold the brushes now..from my strokes...so, I use marker crayons and try to do the same thing...not masterpieces, but the people seem to like them.

Cheers,

Jim

Diane, if you and Gina are going to garden in heaven, I want to paint. I have always wanted to be able to paint landscapes. Ever since I was a kid I wanted to paint. I like to watch Bob Ross paint on PBS, I would love to paint like him. But I'm all thumbs and none of them are green, cuz, I can't grow anything either. If they came up with a guarenteed to live and grow with no care at all plant, i'd kill it.

Ahhhhhh, that tastes good!

Grandson and I came in from landscaping and I looked like I had been swimming! I was soaked! It is too hot and humid out there today for man or beast!

I had a nice cool shower, washed my hair and am now having a DDP. Grandson is soaking in the tub! I was going to fry chicken, but I am sooo tired, gonna try to talk hubby into buying Chinese. I don't even want to move!

Hubby has been scraping and painting on the outside of the house all day. I don't know how he stands the heat; but then, he's cold when it's in the 80s! When I have the A/C running, he is under an afghan.

Diane: If you and Gina are going to garden in Heaven and Katie is going to paint...I want to play a harp, write songs and sing them!

Gonna go check on Grandson in the tub, then go 'sweet talk' hubby into Chinese for tonight.

I will check in later...

6. Hi everyone,
On 4th of July, I went shopping with Mom and ate at CC's Restuarant (pizza place) for lunch. I had a great time, and I bought a new T-Shirt from the Christian bookstore that has America with the US Flag on it and it has the Scripture at the bottom of the Flag (John 1:16). I am going to wear it this coming Friday at work for "casual day".
I was woken up at 6:30 AM this morning to get ready and eat breakfast, then my uncle and aunt took us to the family reunion near Lake Okeechobee. We saw pastures on the way up there with horses and far off, a Seminole Indian village (including a cow pen, which reminded me of Pahokee!). We finally reached the cabin, where some family members are there. One of them is cooking bar-be-que ribs and chicken for us to eat. Later, other family members (including my brother and his wife) arrived with food, just like us. We all had fellowship, ate good food, and sang church hymns together. Mom signed for me during the sing...and we had two times a quartet group (my uncle and my brother sang both times in quartets). Some people also took pictures of the reunion, including us singing church hymns like "Because He Lives" and other good songs.
GOOD NEWS: Micah's mom, Nancy Rector, also arrived with her boys to our reunion, and she said that MICAH IS IN REMISSION!!! I am so happy that this young teenager is free of cancer! [IMG] His grandma, my Aunt Dot, couldn't contain herself she was so happy. [IMG] Nancy told me that she cried the way up to our reunion from the doctor visit for Micah. I can tell my Uncle Gene is praising God by the look on his face. <smile> Micah had chemo before and was in cancer treatment for a while...now he's in remission!
We then gathered up the food, and went on our way home a couple of hours later....we stopped to get a drink on the ride home....and then we arrived in our area.
I had a GREAT TIME! [IMG] Tommorrow, I am going to Sunday School to meet the Singles again (and will ask about the opportunity to help do the website for them). [IMG]
Please keep praying for me on my job, and everything else in my life. [IMG] Thanks!

God bless,
Nancy

7. In addition to my last entry above, I also watched the fireworks around our lake last night! The fireworks were in 3 different towns obviously...they were kind of far away across our lake but you can see them....and we have one shooting off in our area over our lake! It was beautiful! [IMG]

I had a great 4th of July this year! [IMG]

Ninety-Nine! My dad served in Korea, too!---joined the Air Force in '47--was servin' and could see the day of his discharge from where he was at the time----then news came just weeks before his discarge--because of the heated esculation in Korea----"Freeze all discharges!!!" compliments of Uncle Sam! He(Uncle Sammy) rerouted his life to Korea---from '50-'52!

Daddy let us shoot fireworks---he liked the Roman Candles and stuff---he let us take care of the firecrackers---but he stopped us short of making our second "bomb" out of firecrackers that were "duds"---we'd unravel the paper to get to the black powder--somehow we fenangled around and made our first bomb---we loaded a empty match box with powder and "spliced" a few fuses together---wrapped the box real tight with electrical tape(daddy worked for the phone company and had plenty of old rolls of it layin around) lit it and to our amazement it went off---made a small hole in the ground---Well, that got Daddy's attention and he put a damper on our second attempt!!!!

I'm like Diane!! I never went around breakin' laws(at least not on purpose!!)---but lived a life in a broad circle of excitement---it amazes me that I lived this long--without "checkin' out" early on!!

Your buddy,
Blackbird

I am making it an early night folks. I'm getting too old to work outside in the heat. :D

You all have a pleasant evening and sweet dreams. I will stop in and put the coffee on before Sunday School unless someone else gets here first. (If I can still get out of bed by tomorrow)!

It took me 7 minutes to read this thread and NOW I KNOW why some of your "posting numbers" are catching up to me so quickly. I'll invite you all to come over the Theology Forum or Versions Forum and inflate your count with chit-chat.

(Matter of fact, we could use some of the kindness and "lighthearted" comments I've read here. Think I'll stay away; my spiritual gift of "orneriness" may not be suited for this ice-tea and pink-lemonade sipping crowd) [IMG] :D

Good Morning Jim, would you like toast with your coffee or do you prefer croissants? You also have a choice of home made jam, marmalade or honey, or do you just prefer butter? [IMG]

Good Morning Jim and Sheila!

I worked so hard outside yesterday I slept in today!!!

Thanks for putting the coffee and tea on Jim and thanks Sheila for being such a gracious hostess in my [IMG] state!

I do the devotions for Dan on Saturday and Sunday, so I must do that now. I will be back later. I believe I'll have some hot tea with cream and sugar and some cinnamon toast. ;)

And Dr. Bob...please come back and visit us again. This is such a nice retreat from the debate forums!
