Thank you, Sue and Diane. It is always delightful to come here.

In Canada, French takes on a different flavour. They mix in English words..for example, the word for hammer, en Francais est, marteau, or chien de fusil...too long, so they say passez moi le hammer.

I haven't used French in 42 years, but they say it is like riding a bike.....wait, I fell of that too.. [IMG]

In most english schools we learn French. I went to school in Wales and had to learn Welsh. Now that is a different language. I went to school just a few short miles from where Gwendolen (original Welsh) lives..Llanelli. She lives near where my mother was born and raised, Swansea, Wales.

    Cheers,

    Jim

    passez moi le hammer

    this means hammer in french?

    huhhh
if it has the word hammer in it, why don't they just say hammer.

Passez moi 'le chien de fusil' means
Pass me the hammer. 'le chien de fusil' is hammer in French. A red dress in French is 'the dress that is red'. Francais is a very descriptive language.

Potato is 'seed of the earth' Pomme de terre if I remember correctly! Pretty words but too many of them!

Is it hot there Katie? It's getting hot here!

Don't yawn Sheila! I'm drowsy myself now! LOL

It doesn't take much for me to want an afternoon nap. I've got supper already cooking (big roast) and my housework is done. Just need to pick up in the t.v. room before Jim comes in tonight but that's HOURS from now!

We shall make great effort to not be so boorish in future, and add thrill upon thrill to our posts so as to keep your usual attentiveness at its peak.

    Cheers,

You aren't bored are you Sheila?

Big pot roast? yum What do you do to your roasts. My secret ingredient, bet you guessed it Diane, soy sauce! For soem reason I just love soy sauce. I only use a little to givee it that strong brewed flavor from the soy.
Has blackbird been around today? Was thinking of maybe making jambalaya. Need an almost simple recipe, no crawsdads or unusual meats. Would like to use shrimp, chicken and sausage.
    Are you there blackbird??????
Saw on foodnetwrok last night the difference between cajun and creole cooking. Think I prefer the cajun.

Katie, I use my slow cooker and soy sauce! LOL
Sure tastes good! It's storming here tonight so a nice heavy meal will fit the bill! I sleep so well when it's storming. We keep losing electric tho.

Blackbird went away with his youth group for the week. Boy has he missed it! He'll freak when he sees the remarks about Jonathan and David possibly being homosexuals and the poll about Jesus and Mary of Magdela. Ole Blackbird keeps a pot of tar going for just such remarks! LOL

Sheila, you are prolly right....modern labour are social socialists with money......not like the day when local councillors paid their own way, and served the people.

    Cheers,

    Jim

Oh Jim! You're not a liberal! Did you see the thread about Jonathan and David possibly being homosexual lovers? Now THAT's liberal! I could give other examples but you get the idea!

Diane, I can usually tell the age of the preacher by his reactions to these things. I just don't get excited by these outlandish statements, which have been around since before I was born.

I was kidding about being liberal, but I have been so labelled, even in here. It may be because I don't always give the answers some want to hear.

I am actually very conservative, with a liberal application. I treat my hearers like an elastic band. They stretch a little, but they each have a breaking point, so, it is my job to present Jesus in every sermon I preach.

Give me an audience of hookers, gays, thieves and all manner of reprobates, and I am in seventh heaven...I just don't pass the offering plate.

    Cheers,

    Jim

    Oh Jim! LOL

I got a phone call at midnight back in 1994 from a prostitute who had been arrested in a massage parlour sting in our then town. Her picture was front page with her name, address, mention of her being a single mom and college student. I took offense and wrote a letter to the editor that made front page saying we should not go after the women and set the men free and that we also should love the woman and attempt to help her out of her situation instead of attacking her. Well, it was HER on the phone. That night had been her last night! She had graduated from college and had a wonderful job lined up, until they saw the newspapers. She thanked me for my words and told me she loved me. I really didn't know what to say other than I'd pray for her and wished her well.

People don't understand that you can be ultra-conservative and still have a heart and love others! I just won't back down on God's word!

    Thanks for the memory, Jim!
    Diane
