Well, Lenke and I were celebrating with our third grandchild today, who turned 5 last Friday. His name is Micah and they say he somewhat resembles his favorite Grandfather. Well, at least his middle name is Barnabas! :laugh: Below is the link to his pix.

Good afternoon all,
Pam: My dad is a severe diabetic and just got out of the hospital with an infected foot ulcer and sore on his leg. The doc told him to come back next week and he has been off of any type of antibiotics since Tuesday! Both places are still healing. He has other health issues but the sores are the major hurdle that has kept us busy for the last month.
Anyway, he is doing better now than he was earlier today. It is always a good day when he is up for more than a couple of hours at a time. I had better go, the nephew just walked in the door from school.

Disregard a proud Grandfather with his Grandson? No Way! You can definitely see a family resemblance in Barnabas and Micah. Handsome men must run in the family. I won't say that about my family though, but maybe I just come from the shallow end of our gene pool.


Now I see where Administrators and Moderators come from. Don't believe me?...look at Barnabas & Micah, and I Am Blessed 16 [Sue] & Pastor Bob.

The weird throat and tongue disease is settling, I can talk without dribbling and the throat is not full of razors.....ridiculous I have slept for almost 3 days solid.
I am trying to rehydrate and eat sloppy food.......

Enjoy your warm days....it is still pretty warm here unseasonally so.....and it will not rain now until November...our rain is always in the summertime.......

 

Thanks Sue fo Georgia.....that ud be right pretty I would expect when not ravaged by bush fires. The drought is now 7 years old....we are being asked to take 4 minute showers....I love my bath....it is getting pretty bad......the lawn is dead and most of the yard is dead excepting the weeds of course......

its a long weekend and everything is closed down...if i went to the hospital I dont think a sore tongue would get me triaged above about 500 lol.............

 

Briony, we are so sorry to hear about this long drought in the land of yonder. I have a nephew and niece living in Melbourne (he is the pastor of the First Hungarian Baptist Church) and they are asking for prayer all the time about this. Where are the showers of blessings when you need them? By the way, I am glad you are over the worst of that achy throat thingy! :applause:

Really?! Lady Sue, we are having toads for breakfast? I hear they taste like tender chicken. Forgive me if I'll pass though. I don't like those critters on my breakfast plate. :type:

 

Good rainy morning everyone!

Woke up to an unexpected downpour today. Probably means I'll have to set aside some time to mow grass next week. I still haven't gotten the front flower beds in order. I had kind of planned to do that this weekend, but I'm not working in the rain!

Chris' test went well yesterday. They said his results were "interesting" but we'll have to wait for the biopsy results for a definative conclusion. What was interesting was that there seemed to be no problem in his stomach. No visable ulcers or inflamation (those may be present, just not visiable) and both valves are working correctly. It is in his upper esophagus that there is something going on. The lower part looks fine. There are a number of different things that can cause problems in this location, ranging from easy to solve to more difficult, so we just have to wait. In the meantime, they increased one of his meds and added a short term of another. The good news is that it doesn't appear that the meds we've been giving him to help the migraine are the direct cause of the stomach problems.

Sue, the dought stands a chance of ending about now, as Australia is in its autumn and winter is coming on. They are southern hemisphere. A friend of ours called us a day or two ago and told us that one area (I don't remember) had finally had a good pour. This is certainly not enough to end the drought, but hopefully it is a start.

Looks like the spring rains have subsided here. Let the weeding begin!

Got most of the chips done for our neighbor, Steve, yesterday. He normally gets Fridays off, but it turned out someone where he works was sick and his boss called him in, so Barry and I worked until about 2:30 and got most of the stuff done. It was fun, really, and things look ever so much better there now. A little left to do today.

Columbines and iris are approaching full flower and lovely. Dianthus are starting to go, as are the snapdragons and petunias. I've got four figs starting on my baby fig tree! Asparagus is exploding upwards into beautiful ferns. We will start some small harvests next year. Potatoes are up and thriving, lettuce is leafing out and snow peas are ready to bloom. I'll plant the corn and melons this week and get a few replacements for the bell peppers which didn't make it through this last round of cold nights -- they were only an inch or so high, poor babies!

So it's a good thing that I am getting better now as the sun and the work are arriving...

Birds are all over the place finding food for their babies and since we have a tile roof, the chickadees are making nests in all the corners under those tiles and we can hear the baby birds hollering for food.

I love this time of year here. But I did read about the horrid tornado that hit Greensburg, Kansas last night -- wiped out about 90% of the town. My heart goes out to those people. What an awful thing to happen! They are all in my prayers this morning.

Toad in the hole (singular) is usually sausages baked in batter combined with potatoes. It is a left-over meal, quite common because it was inexpensive and quick to prepare.

Now, one who actually eats toads is called a toady. Not sure you would like that. It is rather poisonous. It is also a nasty title for one who hangs on to another rather servily. Not a decent title.

Thanks Helen and Jim! I kind of knew that, for I looked it up on the Net... but you know me, I like to play on words and pull Lady Sue's virtual legs. Kind of lighting up this place..... :laugh:

 

Since Brother Barnabas knows all about toad in the hole, we shall have to serve bangers and mash along with neeps for tommy. Another common fare in East London.

Bangers and mash is sausages with brown onion gravy and mashed potatoes. Sounds dee-lish!! (I already knew that, but googled just to make sure.)
Neeps? or is it Neeps for Tommy? can't figure that one.


We're under a severe thunderstorm warning. And the town of Fargo, Southern part of our County, is under a tornado warning. Fargo is the entrance to the Okefenokee, where the fire has been raging for nearly three weeks.
Don't want twisters, but we really Need the rain. No rain at the house yet, though.

 

Sounds to me like we need to have an Olde English Breakfast here in the CGCH.

I am always fascinated to read about recipes and meals from other countries, and No, I would not ever attempt to make any of the meals either.

I generally can find my way around a kitchen raying: , but I would want some of our British brothers and sisters to make these delicacies. They know them much better.

I will admit to being a good "Belly-Baptist" though. I've never met a chicken dinner or a casserole I didn't like. Hey, it's a gift. :saint:
