Hello to all and Happy Autumn to those in the northern hemisphere and a Joyous Spring to those in the southern hemisphere!
Gorgeous weather here, too.
GAYLA, you still haven't answered my question about your favorite foods...
JIM, glad you're still with us. Sorry about the tractor parts cost! That is a bear!
FoG, did you make it through the night OK? You've got a tough situation there and God bless you.
PALAGISLANDGIRL -- how did your nephew break digits on BOTH hands? Poor fellow! Learning patience is so hard....
New pony should arrive today. She is about 20, bad leg and/or hip, and almost blind in one eye. We have a wonderful handyman our vet recommended to us who is going to build and extra pen inside the barn so one of the minis can have that when it rains and the new pony will have a stall without anyone challenging her for the space. Horses often do that, and will force the 'lesser' out in the rain. That may be OK for the young, healthy animals, but that's not what we have here. At any rate, that will take up every bit of available space in the horse barn!
Barry slept most of the day yesterday. Not feeling well, but went out to the observatory last night because it was a 'star party' night and the public is invited to those. He said about ten showed up, a little less than normal, but a good number to work with when you have a telescope that only one can view through at a time! It is hooked up to computers, though, so all can view at once in another room. Still, that's not quite as much fun as looking through the telescope itself.
I spent the afternoon and evening separating seed/eating dried beans from the dried up pods and watching a lot of junk TV in the meantime. I've never grown so many beans before and the task took about 6 hours! But I set aside about 140 perfect beans for next year's seeds and the rest are now in a storage jar for soups this winter. The early beans -- the green snap beans -- grew in such large quantities they take up one entire section in the freezer. Unbelieveable year for food!
Got a 30 lb squash cut in half and half baked yesterday then cooled and cut and frozen in ziplocs and the other half baked and it's waiting in the oven now to be processed. These are banana squashes and for me that is a comfort food -- they are so good tasting with butter and salt....
Tried one for a 'pumpkin pie', too, and it makes the pie taste much richer. Folks at the Bible study loved it! Doesn't take as much sugar as a pumpkin, either. So we may be on to something here.
That's enough. Time to go out and feed the beasties. God bless you all.
