Good morning all! What a dreary day here today! I woke to thunder and lightning - in January!! How weird! I then had to drive the girls to the bus because of the TORRENTIAL rain we were having at the time (it's slowed down for a little bit now.)

I'm up at church all day today. I know I don't have to do sermon notes (because Pastor has some surprises) but I have to work on a PowerPoint slide show for Pastor's 40th anniversary at our church and then set up the rest of the service. We're also having a dinner for Pastor tomorrow night (a catered dinner at church) and I'm sure I have to do some stuff for that too - another slide show and such. So I'll be busy with pictures! :)

Have a wonderful day everyone! Keep safe and keep well.

    Good morning all,
Today has started out better than yesterday; I hope it will continue. Yesterday was :tonofbricks: that bad!!!!!!!!!! I am grabbing a Mt. Dew and running I need to get ready for work. We have kiddos at work that only come on Friday so it is guaranteed to be busy today and noisy. We have one that cries yells for mom and dad all day long-unless he is eating. There is nothing wrong and he isn't new- that is just him. Y'all have a good day.

    Good Morning!!!

I'm going to just jump in I guess, seeing as there's no way I'd get caught up.

My DH and I have both been sick, seems like we might actually be on the mend though. I really need to spend some time today getting my office organized, it looks like a tornado hit it.

Tomorrow we are starting the remodel of our kitchen - well at least the removing of wallpaper.

    Good Morning Everyone!

Gayla, I never made it back to the BB yesterday. We ended up with only 11 kids to me and Tanya, cause Cass' boyfriend didn't stay. Poor thing, I think he was a little intimidated by all those kids! We were lucky here at our house and only got some much needed rain and just enough lightening and thunder to make Cass scream and the other kids come running. Other parts of the county weren't so lucky. My inlaws lost power at the beginning and hadn't gotten it back at bedtime last night (my bedtime anyway). How'd it go over where you are?

Michelle, welcome to the Coffee House! When you are finished removing your kitchen wall paper, you're welcome to come get mine down. :D I've been threatening to do just that for going on 8 years now, but just can't seem to make myself do it. There is wall paper EVERYWHERE! The back splash is wall paper, it's all behind the refridgerator and it's over the cabinets. When I get my courage up, I told my husband I would take it down one wall at a time and paint behind myself, but I haven't got my courage up. :D

Today, I have a zipper to put in a pageant dress (not Cass'), put the finishing touches on Cass' dress, there's a jacket and some skirts to take up and a kitchen to clean. The kitchen will wait till last!

I also have to call the school and set up a meeting with Cass' teachers. If we don't meet she doesn't get accomodated well. This will be a busy semester for her and we don't have time to waste with a teacher who doesn't know how to handle Cass' migraines. I was nice and gave them a week to get started before they had to deal with me. That was nice, wasn't it? :D

Chris isn't feeling well this morning. He was migrainy all day yesterday because of the weather. He wasn't nearly as bad as he has been in the past though. This is a vast improvement! Yesterday was mostly stomach trouble (gasto thinks it's all related to his migraines) and not so much a headache. Today, he's just very tired. It takes a lot of energy to deal with these migraines, even relatively painless ones.

For myself, I'm glad it's Friday. I'm tired! I could have slept for a nother couple of hours at least this morning. Jenna and I had to drag out of bed. T was lazy getting up too, but he stayed at work through the storms yesterday and didn't get home till 8ish. I'm looking forward to everyone getting some sleep in the morning!

    Ya'll have a good day!

Is wallpaper dated now just because it is wallpaper?
Are you planning to paint just because it would be easier than wallpaper?
If so, how do you prepare the surface after you take off the wallpaper?

Looking at my dingy wallpaper and thinking about the expense and wondering if it would be better to paint.

Karen - I'm planning on taking down the wallpaper cause it isn't very pretty. It has these stupid little flowers that actually look like something is stuck to the wall. I keep trying to scrub them off.

Once the wallpaper is down, we'll do any patching and then sanding then paint.

If you want to see what my kitchen looks like - I have pictures posted on my blog - which I need to add to my siggy.

MK, we didn't get stormy weather. It's cloudy with occasional light rain right now. The storm kinda fell apart before it got here. That's OK, I'd rather have just the light rain anyhow.

Wallpaper: Watching shows like "House Hunters" on HGTV makes me think that wallpaper is "out" right now.
One night late last week or early this week there was a house that had wallpaper in every room, sometimes even on the ceiling. Most of it was loud print-ew!!
Everybody also seems to want an "updated" kitchen with granite countertops and stainless steel appliances. $$$

Not me! We're going with a laminate countertop - though it does look like granite - and regular appliances, probably white.

I have marble tile in my garage that will become my countertops. Of course we have to collect the rest of the kitchen before we can even start. :D The marble we found quite by accident for an excellent price and went ahead and bought it even a whole kitchen remake isn't happening in the near future. New paint might happen.

Our house was full of wallpaper! So far we've gotten it out of 3 bedrooms and a bathroom. Left is the downstairs hall, the kitchen, the half bath and the upper half of the dining room. The dining room's paper is the least offensive. The cat is helping out with the stuff in the hallway. It is some sort of textured paper that looks and feels like hay stuck to the wall. Hairwolf (the cat) thinks it is wonderful for climbing and has proven that it won't be nearly as hard to take down as I thought. This will be the next project.

Karen, I use lots of very hot water and elbow grease in getting the nasty stuff down. Somebody make a very nice tool, that you can get at Walmart, that puntures holes in the wall paper allowing the water to loosen the glue. Then you scrape it off with a scraping tool made for the purpose(also available at Walmart). The we patch, sand, primer and paint.

You wouldn't believe the stuff we found under some of that paper. Holes that had barely been filled or left empty. Ugly, ugly paint. In the bathroom I thought would be so easy to snatch down the paper and put up some paint, we ended up spending the whole summer plus $$$ fixing the wallboard. That was the everexpanding project that has left me afraid to start another! I'm afraid of what I might find.

    Welcome, Michelle.

Thanks to you and MK for the advice.
I may indeed start on a small room and see what happens.
Got any advice on the howto of patching?

We took down this hideous mustard yellow wallpaper in our hallway - only to find that they used that hideous mustard yellow paper to cover hideous mustard yellow paint! WHY?????

We're going to take the wallpaper down from our kitchen sometime too. Probably next winter, I'd think.

Can't wait to see the pics Michelle!

LOL, Ann! I guess the paint wouldn't wash as well as the wallpaper.

I think I'm off to bed early tonight folks. I've been tired all day and it's not getting any better.

Yes, and brown tones certainly seem to be in. THe shows about decorating seem to feature bold colors. The ones about selling seem to be about covering up bold colors.

Hello everyone, I'm new here, so I'll introduce myself. My name is Matt, I'm a Welshman, mid twenties, very sporty and love the Lord (of course). However, I don't like coffee, or tea, I keep burning my tongue when I drink 'em. Is there a way to train your tongue to survive extreme temperatures? Do you serve and cold drinks?

    God Bless

    Hey Matt,
Welcome you'll find just about anything you want here so sit back and help yourself. I am going to post and run, baby niece is sleeping so I have a few minutes before she starts to realize she isn't being held. She is feeling better, but I think her mom is taking her to the doc tommorrow.

Good evening all and welcome Matt! It's good to meet you!

Well, I'm tired! The anniversary celebrations for our pastor were great - we laughed, cried and learned of some new "visions" he has for the future. They include some new programs/resources and 2 new pastoral interns! That would make 11 pastor eventually! WOW! LOL!

We're getting ready to get some snow - how much, I'm not sure. We're either in the band for the 1-3" or the 6-10" - it just depends on which website you look at. I'm rooting for the 6-10 personally. ;) I'm really hoping for a snow day tomorrow for the girls so they can finally get the Christmas stuff put away. LOL! I picked up 3 movies for us to watch - Amazing Grace, the new Die Hard movie and Evan Almighty. So between that and the goodies I bought, I think we're set!

I left some homemade banana bread on the counter and some bread pudding in the fridge with whipped cream. Did some baking today!

Well we started on the wallpaper. Got some accomplished. We're using stuff called DIF to loosen the glue and so far it's working great!

Yep, Michelle - DIF is the way to go. Also make sure you have EVERY speck of paste off the walls because paint won't stick to it. Ask me how I know. LOL!

Well, we were expecting to wake up to 6-10" of snow. Instead we woke to wet roads. Apparently high 30's is not optimal temperature for a good snowstorm! Bleck! I was looking forward to a snow day! We haven't gotten our Christmas stuff put away yet (yeah, I know) and they ARE going away today. So my plan is that the girls will come home, pull all the boxes from their closet (the attic access is through the wall in their closet) and we'll de-Christmas tonight. I really want this stuff out of here and I can't do it by myself (well, I guess I could but I don't want to!).

So today will be homeschooling, chores to clean up this dump and get it ready for the de-Christmassing, laundry and I have to go to the barn later. I found on the clearance rack at the grocery store yesterday 3 large jars of green spearmint Starlight mints. Those are the ones Whirl loves - and they were just a dollar each! So I bought whatever they had. :D Now Whirl is set for a few months.

I brought in a french toast casserole, fresh cantaloupe and OJ - it's all ready to go in the fridge. Have a wonderful day all!

I think that I'll have some OJ. DH and I can not kick this cold. Now neither of us has a voice. And I just got the hiccups. Ugh!
