    Update on Jared Fisher (Guitar25)

Sorry I haven't been posting much lately.

Jared (Guitar25) has been in rehab at St. Mary's in Rochester, NY.

We saw him on 1/10 - after his exercise with the therapist was concluded - the therapist told him to sit up. Jared sat up by himself which included putting his feet on the floor. The therapist helped him into the wheel chair.

A sign in his room said that he had to walk to the dining room - for each of his meals. We watched him walk from his room - using a walker - and aided by his mother - all the way to the dining hall. What a blessing.

Jared is scheduled to go home on 1/25 - he will have to continue therapy at home - but being home is going to be a huge step for him.

The breathing (trach) tube has been removed - he is talking - though it is difficult - he has his memory - but he still has a long way to go. Previous to the 1/10 visit - we saw him on Christmas Day - as he was allowed out of the hospital for about four hours. What an improvement between 12/25 and 1/10.

    Have a great Lord's day!

    Dan

Hi Dan! It's good to 'see' you again! PTL for Jared's progress! :godisgood:

    Good morning all,

    It's 10º. We're having a heat wave!

No public school today so I don't have to work on the corner. Our Christian school is in session though, so Brent is already gone.

As part of Brent's birthday present, we are going to see the Harlem Globetrotters this week. I don't know who is more excited...Brent or Grandpa. :)

It is laundry day around here and I need to go through Brent's clothes since the "Growth Spurt Fairy" has struck again. I am taking his outgrown clothes, and some of mine and Dale's, to a family that lost everything in a fire a couple of days ago.

    Time to get busy. [IMG]

    HAGD!

    Good Morning Everyone!

That same nasty fairy has struck our house too, Sue. Whatever are we going to do? Jenna left the casual coat she wears most often up at her friend's house, the next coat was hiding in the car. No problem, I pulled out her "dress" coat that was heavy enough to wear in this cold. Her wrists stuck out of the sleeves by about 2 inches! So I pull out a jacket that is lighter, but nice enough to be considered dressy and it was too small too! I know the second one she has worn in the last couple of months and it wasn't to small then!

And you know, they don't make size 8 long pants for little skinney girls! I keep telling Jenna she needs to grow out some before she grows up, but it's not working that way! The 10 slims we bought her at Christmas are already nearly to short! And those were still to big in the waist/hips.

I guess this means it's time to get out the sewing machine. What worked for Cass when she went through this spurt was elastic waist pants that I lengthened way beyond what the pattern called for. She was comfortable and I was happy that no ankle bones were showing!

Good chilly morning all! It's not as cold here as it is for some of you but 20 degrees is still pretty darned cold!

I did something different this week with food shopping - we'll see how it works out. We have food delivery through Peapod and our local supermarket and since I hate food shopping and I DO plan my weekly menu, I want to see if it works to have the food delivered. So they should be here between 10 AM and 1 PM. They'll carry the food into the house even! So all I have to do is put it all away. I just need to hae the order in by 3PM on Sunday to have it delivered on Monday (you pick the delivery time and they tell you the last you can change your order). Some things are not able to be purchased this way but the bulk can be so I'll just hit the store on Thursday for the fresh mushrooms and lettuce I need for the dinners to finish out the week. If I don't have to do the big food shopping on the weekend like I normally do, that will save me a lot of time and exhaustion! :)

Other than that, I'm not sure what I'm doing today. I thought about hitting up the eye doctor because my eye is bothering me (I have an issue with my eye developing callouses and it's very painful - and it was acting up this weekend) but my eye is better today. I'm also supposed to go ride but we'll see how the footing is for that.

I left fresh banana muffins and homemade jam. Have a great day!

All right folks! Time to get up! Sue, I'm sure, is already up helping Brent deliever papers, but the rest of you need to get up too! I've been up since 5 and I need someone to eat the muffins and coffee I brought in this morning. :) Oh yeah, and through out the day ya'll have to finish off the fudge I made last night, before T's sugar gets any higher.

That man! I waited until he was asleep on the couch last night before I made the stuff. It only takes 3 minutes. He slept through the whole process. But I didn't hide it well enough and he got into it. His sugar was nearly 300 (not uncommon at the moment as the doc is still adjusting his insulin). I was sooo mad at him! But what can one do? Seems diabetics crave sugar.

Today is housecleaning and sewing. Cass is in desperate need of a new purse. Since money is tight right now and for some reason there is a perfect piece of fabric staring me in the face, I'm going to make her a new one. She loves the old one so I'm going to base my pattern on that one and see what turns out. It should be fun, I just hope I can get it done today. She nearly lost her cell phone yesterday cause it dropped out of its pocket. T got this phone call from a man we didn't know, saying he thought he'd found our son's cell phone. Chris' cell was on the table. I called the man back and took 5 minutes to figure out he had Cass' phone. The man was a teacher at the high school. Our lives are never simple!

    Ya'll have a good day!

Rob - What kind of surgery? I had carpal tunnel release surgery a year ago and all is wonderful. Of course if I continue on this computer, it might not be! LOL!

OK - So I said I was going to get my groceries delivered this week? It worked GREAT and I think I'm hooked. Relaxing in my own home, a nice man drives up and brings the bags of groceries into the kitchen - what more could I ask for! And the only thing that wasn't good was one banana and they credited me the 50 cents right away. LOL! Yep, I'm gonna be spoiled now! I can't afford a housekeeper or a cook but I CAN afford to have the groceries delivered. :D

Today will be kind of quiet. I'll do some homeschooling with the littles, bring Lauren to a friend's house to work on something for school (it's testing week at the high school and my girls have no tests so they're off from school all week) and then tonight is church. I think I'm going to make my ultimate pot roast for dinner since I'm home and can take the 3 hours it takes to cook. :) With mashed potatoes and broccoli, this will be yummy!

Yikes!! It was 3.5 years ago when my hubby fell off the roof and dislocated his foot severely AND broke 5 bones. Unfortunately he was misdiagnosed by the orthopedist we saw in the ER and, although he should have had surgery that night, he didn't have it for 4 full weeks. Because of that, his foot is permanently disabled. It was bad.

I pray that you have a great result from the surgery and such. Is the plate permanent? My hubby's screws were removed after 6 weeks so he ended up having 2 surgeries. NOT fun.

What is it with you guys and heights??? Please stay on the ground from now on! My hubby was only cleaning the gutters. Now we pay a guy $50 to do it - WELL worth it and WAY less than what we paid for that foot even WITH insurance!

No the plate is pemanent. sorry to here of your husbands disability. As for staying on the ground.....not possible. In addition to pastoring, I frame houses with a local builder, so the fall I took was a small one- 6 feet. We commonly are 20-40 feet off the ground and walking on top of 2x4 walls!

Scary stuff isn't it Michelle!

RobL, Welcome to the Coffee House it's nice to meet you. This is a good place to take a break from the debate forums.

Okay folks, we have a question of dire consequences. ;) If my greatgrandfather and Tanya's greatgrandfather were brothers, and it appears they were (emphasis on were), how many cousins apart does that make us?

I say 4 she says 6. Really though, I'm not sure how to count that far down the line.

    Okay, back to purse making!

    3rd cousins.

Brothers' children are 1st cousins. Grandchildren of the brothers - 2nd cousins. Great grandchildren of the brothers - 3rd cousins.
So you and Tanya share 1/8 of your ancestry in common. Brothers would share 100%. 1st cousins 50%. 2nd cousins 25%. 3rd cousins 12.5% or 1/8.

Cousin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

And then that makes MK and Tanya's kids or Tanya and MK's kids 3rd cousins once removed.
So Tanya's kids and MK's kids are 4th cousins, sharing a 1/16 common ancestry.

I have a number of double 2nd cousins because my grandmother and her brother married a brother and sister.

Well, thank you Karen! I had no idea how to count that far back.

We all had been suspecting for some time that there was a common ancester up in the line somewhere. Tanya's grandmother couldn't provide all the info, mine is gone, and my mother has alzheimer's and doesn't always remember, but today I thought to ask my Dad. Between them, they gave me the name and the story. There was a reason neither of us could come up with a common name. I've been sheltered from some of the family truths and there was a split between our great grandfathers, years before Tanya and I were even thought of. The smart ones got married and got out (Tanya's grandparents and my parents) and didn't bother to share "the whole story".

My dad, btw, was somewhat reluctant to even share that today and I'm 43! Said some stories didn't bear repeating.

Evening all (or early good morning)!

Cindi and Tanya, if y'all are gonna start dragging skeletons out of the closet, stay out of mine!

Welcome, Rob! Sorry to hear about your fall. I took a couple of falls last summer when we were siding the house. My kids took my ladder away from me!

Count me in on the 'ditto' for wallpaper. Getting these borders off is all I want of it!

I'm up waiting for the Sunday papers to be delivered so I can put them together with the inserts and have them ready to deliver around 6:00.

I think I'm gonna hit the couch until they get here though. My eyelids are getting very droopy.

    Pleasant dreams all!
