i hope you all are having a good saturday am!

i also hope you don't buy that about MK leaving the leaves on the ground till next week cause she likes to see color on the ground ;o) i'm thinking she is like me...rather leave them and see how many the wind will take away before she puts forth the effort to do something with them.

cindi, it will be interesting to see if you get a response from P&R, i still haven't received a response from the 2 emails i sent to the news paper..

today is to be filled with much of the same for me...more bed rest and my wonderful husband gets to take 5 of our 6 children shopping for shoes  glad i get to miss that trip. my mom said our other child could stay with her when we picked everyone up for a few days at home...so...she volunteered my dad to take amie shopping for shoes. that should be a sight to see...a 65 yr old man who has never bought his own shoes helping a 10yr old girl buy shoes:laugh:

    thanks for the breakfast cindi!

    Good Afternoon Everybody,

    Thanks for breakfast Cuz.

Tanya: I have to agree with my Cuz. I also like to see the different colors on the ground...particularly as they blow down the street.

What is it about shopping today? I have to go and buy a new winter coat and gloves.

It's 38 degrees and cloudy here today. We're supposed to have a warm-up starting on Monday with showers possible.

Sue and Gayla: Praying daily for both of you.

Ann: I love Fall weddings. Usually I'll give the couple an electric warming tray for the gift. Figure they'll get enough toasters, coffeepots, etc. from others.

We'll probably stop for lunch while we're out shopping. I am a terrible shopper, and I admit it. It takes me forever to pick something out. Think I'll put on a suit of armor, last time I went shopping some 6' Amazon caught me in the ribs while we were in a crowd.

Well, the wedding was lovely, Bob did an awesome job (for his first wedding) and all went perfectly. Now Bob and the teens are off to the David Crowder Band concert in the city (they're a contemporary worship band) and won't be back until around midnight. The littles are outside in the chill of the fall (it's 48 degrees right now) and I'm in here with a cup of tea. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Okay, we're home. Ya'll ain't gettin' no fall pics posted today! I am exhausted.

I think I made it through my testing today. Barely. Next time my body tells me I'm not ready to test, I'm listening! Got through and started coughing. Now I'm not sick or didn't think I was sick anyway, but this cough started way down in my lungs and didn't let up for about 30 minutes and even now, if I breathe the right way I start again.

Then we had to do the weekly grocery shopping. Not a pleasant experience. I don't what happened in Walmart before we got there, but there shelves were either dishiveled or empty! Good thing I don't cook!

Now Tanya! Here I was trying to give the lovely, wonderful folk at the Coffee House a break from raking all those fall leaves and you go tell them I just don't want to rake my own and am trying to get everyone to do things my was so my yard won't stick out like a sore thumb! Yep, I'll remember this! At least my Cuz knows enough to agree with me! :D

Ann, I had a fall wedding so I'm partial. Glad to hear it went well. Now about you putting your children out in the cold while you stay indoors and drink tea.............<sounds exactly like something I would do>

Cuz, you know what you can do with electric warming trays? Your grandkids will love this. Give them a tray with a coloring sheet on it and some old crayons. The heat from the tray will melt the crayons into the paper as they 'color' with them and the result looks a good bit like stained glass. Of course you must tell them that the tray gets hot! (my tray doesn't get so hot as to burn them if they merely touch it. They cant rest their arms on it though. Make sure you check how hot yours gets before you let them around it.) Oh yeah, you probably don't want to do this with a warming tray you plan on giving as a wedding gift. Get the kids one from the thrift store!

Sue, Gayla, how are ya'll feeling today?

Helen, ya'll getting those storms you were expecting?

There have to be easier ways to get through a Saturday....

It started out well....it really did....

But Barry got to talk to Cindi and I didn't! He normally answers the phone because he is most often near it, working at the computer. Sigh. MK, he said you sounded really nice....

...but some parts of today were just fine, even the rain...

Then I tried Alaskan cod ONE MORE TIME for our noonday meal. I checked the net for recipes and found a couple that seemed pretty good. Chose one and used it.

Folks, no matter what you do to Alaskan cod, and no matter how you cook it, no matter what spices and sauces you put on it, it is still rubber. Spiced rubber, maybe. Grilled rubber or roasted rubber perhaps. Sauced rubber or dry rubber. But rubber. I couldn't eat it.

But part of the day was nice...

Gina works on Saturday afternoon/evenings so we get the girls and the card games were lots of fun today. I lost a lot, but hey, that's not so bad when you see the kids really thinking and planning!

Then, when we weren't looking, Chris got into the bread. Barry and I were sure we had locked the fridge. How did he get into the bread?

    the whole loaf.

But Chris is never full. That is important to remember.

The girls came over after they ate their dinner at home and beat us again in Skip-Bo. Actually, Barry won one round and Anna and I played for second. I came in third. No problem.

Girls went back to their place for bed and Barry and I came out here to the den to work on stuff. Then Barry went to put Chris to bed.

He came back in here a couple of minutes later holding the cinnamon sugar container. I make a lot at a time and put it in one of those sugar dispensers you used to see in restaurants a lot.

The top was off and it was half gone. I just made a fresh batch a week ago and hadn't used any yet. "We'd better make sure the doors are shut to the spice cabinet, honey." We have had to get sliding glass doors installed on our open spice cabinet because Chris found out that some of them tastes really good (favorites were Mrs. Dash and garlic) and that peppercorns roll beautifully across the kitchen floor.

Evidently one of the doors wasn't quite to the wall where Chris can't figure how to get in.

There was cinnamon sugar mostly in him, giving him a glorious sugar high. But he had also liberally distributed it across his bed (his bedroom is off the kitchen), on his floor, and even into his changing room (off his bedroom).

    The dogs loved it.

Barry took care of Chris and I tackled the mess with the vac.

It's ten in the evening here now and we just now sat down as I started typing this. Barry is on the phone with an interviewer and I am a little tired.

Just a little, you understand. After all, tomorrow is another day.

Oh, Helen! I can't imagine!! OY!! ((HUGS)) and lots of tea for you today!

I'm about ready to go off to church for this morning. I'm hoping to get some decluttering done today because we have 2 Chinese students coming to stay with us for Thanksgiving and my house is a cluttered mess! I'm embarrassed by it and need to get it cleaned up. I worked in my son's room last night (where they'll be staying) and hopefully I'll get that room done today. Not sure what I'm going to be making for dinner ..... I need to figure that out!

Have a wonderful day everyone! :wavey:

    Good Morning Everyone!

Helen, I'm sorry we didn't get to chat. I do plan on having Cass call Barry back sometime during the week to thank him personally for his help. Maybe you and I can get a chance to talk then. Barry's accent is great, btw. He got treated to my rather bosterious Southern accent with the speed of my Yankee roots. I tend to forget just how fast I speak.

I'm going to make T up a batch of your chocolate syrup. His doc is threatening to put him on pressure meds because his levels don't stay level. His blood pressure spikes up and down as it pleases and it was up last week when he went in. Dark chocolate is much perferable to yet another med.

My kids love Skip Bo! I'd never heard of it before I started sewing at the church. When we aren't in the mood to work or everyone hasn't arrived yet, my Chris will chance getting out the cards to see if anyone wants to play. :D He hasn't been turned down often!

Dogs make wonderful vacuum cleaners! I am sooooo jealous today. At testing yesterday our instructor had their new family member with them. She was a lovely German Shepard puppy that someone gave them. Reminded me so much in temperament of Hammer. Couldn't persuade them to let her come home with me though. Go figure.

I with Ann today. In spite of the amount of cleaning I did Thursday, there is more to be done today to get ready for Thanksgiving and a week of no school! First off will be the library which will have to be completely rearranged!

    I'm drinking coffee first!

    Ya'll have a nice Sunday!

MK, know you have a problem with migraines in your family. This just came in on a health news email and I don't know if it will be of any help or not, but just in case, here is the full article:

    ----------

Like so many of today’s diseases, migraines are on the rise. And while we still do not fully understand the process, we do know some basics.
There are two components of the migraine to be concerned about. One is the stage at which blood vessels leading to the head and brain go into spasm. This produces the aura seen with many migraines. The auras are neurological symptoms, most often visual.

Visual auras usually begin with a slight blurring of central vision, causing difficulty reading and recognizing faces. This is quickly followed by a rapidly pulsating light resembling a glowing, zigzagging neon strip. This light is called a scintillating scotoma and it originates from the visual cortex of the brain. Slowly it will move to the outside of the visual field and disappear.

Other auras can include sudden weakness, tingling in the face, tongue or extremities, difficulty speaking, dizziness and a loss of balance. All of these can be confused with an impending stroke and tests should be done, at least initially, to rule that out.

The second stage is dilation of these same arteries, and this is what causes the headache. While this produces the most devastating symptoms, in truth, it is the first effect that is most dangerous. In some people, the artery constricts so intensely that it causes a stroke.
Most common is a loss of vision (one half of the visual field is lost). A rare form of migraine, called basilar migraine, can cause vertigo, a loss of balance, double vision and speech difficulties — all of which can become permanent should a stroke occur.

Some people develop what is called an ophthalmoplegic migraine, with severe pain in one eye accompanied by drooping of an eyelid (called ptosis). This drooping of the lid can last hours or even weeks. Sometimes, these migraines are caused by intracranial aneurysms, so MRA studies are needed, just to make sure.

Finally, some people have migraines with little or no headache. That is, they just have the aura. We used to call this a “migraine with out migraine.”

I have successfully used the following program to treat a number of people for chronic migraine:
    • Most important is to avoid all excitotoxins. MSG, aspartame, etc. – all of these are major triggers for migraine.
    • Increase your magnesium intake significantly. But be aware, it takes a long time for oral magnesium to raise depleted brain levels to normal.
    • Avoid sugar, especially soft drinks. Drink purified water.
    • Take riboflavin to significantly reduce migraine attacks, by protecting against excitotoxicity.
    • Anti-inflammatory flavonoids are important. The best are curcumin, quercetin, hesperidin, feverfew and nettle. All should be taken with meals.
    • DHA component of fish oils (omega-3) also reduces inflammation and reduce migraine attacks.
Remember: The drugs used to treat migraine are often very dangerous and can increase the risk of a stroke or heart attack.

My kids don't have auras. Life would be soooo much easier if we had the warning of an aura. The first point we follow religiously! You can yeast breads and bananas to our no list too. Magnesium helped Chris and had no effect on Cass. Sugar bother Cass, doesn't bother Chris. (this, plus T's diabetes is why grocery shopping takes hours) B vitamins didn't help either of them.

Now the other things, I've tried some of them. There is an over the counter migraine med that contained nettle and feverfew that helped Chris for a while, but made Cass worse. I can't remember if we tried the fish oil.

Chris has been immensely better since we started homeschooling. WE've been able to drop one of his perscription meds even. Cass has an entirely new regimen that we haven't been on long enough to see if it'll work. The old meds worked fine, but left her sleepy until afternoon. Not good when Honors English is first thing in the morning! This weeks migraine, though, was caused by some viral thing she had last week. Whatever that was it made her joints hurt too. I think a lot of yesterday's was rebound headaches because she had used so much of the painkillers. She had used something, more than once a day, for over a week. That is way more than enough meds to cause rebound.

Thanks for the info, I'm going to look up the other big words and find out just what they are.

I also have migraines without aura. I'm going to find myself a neurologist that specializes in migraines soon because mine are definitely getting worse. I also want to meet with a girlfriend of mine who is writing a book on migraines (http://www.restoringyourtemple.com/oham.asp) and see what else she can help me with (she's helping me find a doctor). I also avoid lots of stuff and take multiple suppliments but it seems most of mine are now hormonal. SIGH. It really stinks.

Ann, have I given you the website I use for migraine stuff? They have some good info, a doctor list and a forum that is well run. They keep up with the new research as well. Let me know and I'll pm it to you.

So how much cleaning did you get done today?

I managed to pull out half the library and put back most of it. :D I moved one of the bookcase into the living room where I don't really like it but it'll have to stay until we find a new home for our old TV and entertainment center. It's so heavy that we were lucky to get it into the library. It's fixed now so the kids can use it for video games AND we can get to all the shelves. The case I moved into the living looks okay. It would look better if it were on the other side of the piano, but the piano is to heavy to move too! What really matters is that I have the library back.

There's more to do tomorrow, but T said to leave some of where it was. He failed to tell me how long I had to leave it alone, so tomorrow it is!

    Good morning all,

It is 60º with showers this morning. It was 70º yesterday!!!

I have to run. I'm subbing on a corner today and tomorrow (different corners both days).

I brought in ingredients for Boiled Omelets. They're all in separate bowls in the fridge. Don't forget...boil ONLY for 13 minutes!

Cinnamon toast and apple juice rounds out breakfast.

    HAGD!

Good Morning Sue, good morning everyone!

Mmmm, I love cinnamon toast! I'm setting aside a couple of pieces for my morning coffee break. By then I'll need the sustenance! I have to finish putting away the stuff I drug out yesteday. I thought I had it all, but found I didn't. Then I want to deep clean the living room. I never really did that the last time I deep cleaned cause I knew I wasn't doing the library and I'd just mess it up again. If I'm lucky I'll get all the way through to the dining room which did cleaned before but has piled up again!. We have too many projects going on right now!

After that a general cleaning will suffice for the rest and we'll be ready for Thanksgiving. Well, unless I decide to shine the floors......

No - but I'd LOVE to see that site!! Please PM it to me!

Not much. I ended up food shopping which I SO didn't want to do. BUT I now have a plan for the week and I don't need to hit the store for atleast a week (or a day or two knowing this family).

Today I need to go through my son's clothes and switch him over. It's 44 degrees at almost 11 AM so I'd say winter clothes are the right thing now. LOL Later I'm going riding with my daughter and then we'll come home, clean up and I'm trying a new recipe for dinner. It's a Beef Barley Stew - I'll let you know how it turns out. :)

    Good evening all,
Not much happening here. It has warmed up and we have a chance of rain for a couple of more days. It rained this morning and then warmed up to 80 this afternoon so the kiddos at work could go play outside until their parents came! Oldest nephew's soccer team won their league completely undefeated so they will be the team to beat in the spring. Oldest neice's team wound up in fourth in their league. I am pretty pleased- since she is on the youngest team in her league! Youngest nephew is spending the night and is heading to bed. His little sis's are with mom and dad. I had better go, I need to get the kitchen cleaned up so I can crash and get some sleep for work tommorrow. Y'all have a blessed day.

    Good morning all,

I finally got the dining room finished! It's all painted, drapes hung, and pictures put back on the wall! [IMG]

Now on to the living room...

I was supposed to sub on the corner again today, but it is the busiest corner (crossing two streets). I broke my little toe last night (the poor thing is all black and blue) and I can hardly walk on it. If it was a slower corner I might be able to do it, but there's no way that I can walk fast enough to cross two ways.

I am taking a break and enjoying the dining room for a few days before I mess it up by putting the living room furniture in there while painting THAT room!!! In fact, I don't think I'll do anything but sit, with my feet up, today...

There are scrambled eggs, sausage, hash browns and cinnamon toast on the counter. OJ, milk, and canteloupe are in the fridge. And of course, hot cocoa, coffee and tea are ready. Help yourself, but clean up when you're done. This chick has had it! LOL

    HAGD!

Ouch Sue! I feel your pain! And there is nothing that can be done except let it heal. Can you tell I've broke my poor little toes more than once? I used to be the queen of broken toes. A time or wasn't even my fault.

I'd come sit and enjoy your nice dining room with you, but my living room is already pulled out so I guess I'd better try to get it back together today. Sigh. I really don't feel like it.

Chris and I have yet another stupid stomach bug. Whine. Hmmm, that felt pretty good, I think I'll have another. Whine. Whine. Whine.

Okay that's enough. I'm off to work on this house. If I get in a good day, I'll be ready for Thanksgiving.

    Thanks for breakfast Sue!

Cuz, where you been? You heard anything about the house yet.

    Good Morning Everybody,

Sorry I haven't been around much lately. Things are getting worse with my MIL. She is totally confused, she doesn't know where she is, she doesn't recognize family members, etc. We're taking her to the doctor this afternoon, and I imagine he'll order tests. I'm going to suggest a CT Scan of her brain with dye, she can't have an MRI because of stents in her heart, and see what that shows. I'm no doctor but I'm recognizing the same signs and symptoms that Brenda's Grandmother had, and that diagnosis was Alzheimer's Disease. I'm praying that I'm wrong [how often do you do that?], but it's sure a strong possibility to consider.

Haven't heard anything on the house yet. We know that the sellers have the offer. Our realtor called yesterday to say that they [the sellers] are trying to raise the money to pay a sewer assessment that is involved, we'll pay for the sewer hook-up but we want them to assume the assessment[ about $9,000 ]. So that sounds promising if they can get the money for the assessment. We're offering them $10,100.00 over their asking price for the house and property. Hopefully we'll hear somrthing this week, I'm not against extending the offer period if they are actually attempting to find funds for the assessment.

Sue: Glad to hear the living room is finished, but sorry to hear about your toe. You can sit in my recliner and prop your foot up when you come for Thanksgiving dinner. Leave it to our fearless Administrator. Hobbling around with a broken toe, and she still brings in breakfast. What a gal!!

Cuz and Ann: I am so sorry to hear about the migraines. My thoughts and prayers are with you both.:praying:

Helen:If you don't mind may I ask a personal question? Do you ever rest? I get winded just reading your posts.

Time to get cleaned up to take my MIL to the doctors.
