Good afternoon FoG! I love your name. Burgers and fries sound pretty yummy!

I slept until 10:30 today, still tired but want to do some rearranging in my room so I'll pin my eyelids up if I have to!

The banana bread is gone. I made it yesterday. That is some good stuff, especially if you leave little chunks of nanners in the batter, and it's so easy to make! Nanas, sugar, vanilla, baking soda, salt, an egg, and some flour, and don't even need a mixer. Oh yeah...simple goodness!

Really Cuz? They are letting you g-kids out of school for a week because of pink-eye? Man, you got some nice docs! Down here 24-48 hours after starting the drops, the kids go back to school! Supposedly they aren't contagious after that.

We've had another sick day ourselves. Jenna started losing the contents of her stomach about 10:30 last night and continued to do so until 4:30 this morning when there was evidently nothing left. The doc called her in some meds which promptly put her to sleep and that is how she stayed until just a few minutes ago.

Speakin' of gettin' sick and missin' school---------

My father in law worked over at EC Gaston fossil fuel electric generating plant in Wilsonville----and hated to miss work

One day he was doing some yard work around his house and was bit on the hand by a Copperhead snake

He phones the doctor in town

FIL: "Doc! I just got bit by a Copperhead!"

DOC: "Meet me at the hospital emergency room!"

FIL: "Ummm! Can you just phone me in a perscription??!!!"(now, THAT'S desperate!!!)

DOC: I'm afraid not!! Meet me at the emergency room!"

    Have a good day!!

That's pretty much the norm up here in God's Country, Cuz. The kids are out for a week and then have to be examined by the doc and have a Doctor's excuse to return to school.

You've got some pretty hardy kin there blackbird. I always see a snake before the snake sees me.

Hey, where is everybody?! I guess, the weather being great, most people were out today. Here in Queen City we had 74 degrees. People were walking in short-sleeve shirts. Even though it will go down a bit during the night, it will climb back again tomorrow. I walked 1.6 miles around the neighborhood this afternoon, for I was getting rusty around the joints. Then Lenke had a brilliant idea of going out shopping.... and then conveniently forgetting to bring her money along. Clever lady, very clever.....

I'm here, but just for a minute. I have been pretty sick and, sad to say, still am. Dr. wanted me to have a vacation in the hospital but I talked him out of it by promising to be good at home and get plenty of rest, drink plenty of liquids, and take my breathing treatments and medicine.

I am being treated for COPD Exacerbation and I don't feel good at all. :( I've been down for about 5 days already and I guess I'm looking at another 5-10 days of down time.

Please pray that I get back on my feet soon - hubby can't cook...

    Blessings to all,
    §ue

Would you believe it? Brother Barnabas double-posts and get caught again,,,,,,,

Good evening to you both and bless.

Get well soon, Sue and pay mind to wot the docs say.

    Cheers,

    Jim

I guess we were all sleeping!

That was cute Barnabas! Did she find any good deals? Wait...I guess she did. It was you!

Sue, being sick is the pits. UGH! I wish you would have taken the "vacation" in the hospital though. I bet anything you're gonna be sneaking around and cooking. BAD GIRL! I know the hospital isn't fun, but I also know you're gonna take longer getting better because there's a reason you won't go, and that reason is because you want to DO stuff!

So Valentine's Day is coming up. I got the girls these heart containers, very cute, and filled them with three kinds of candy. They have such cute stuff in the stores! :love2:

I've heard it rumored that some people sleep at night. Can't prove it by me. I nodded off at the computer so I went to bed. I stayed there for a little over an hour and a half and I gave up and got up. I have meetings today and school tonight. This should be fun.:tonofbricks:

That rumor is going around. I don't know who those strange people are who see the moon rising and stars shining and then think it's a good idea to go to their room and pass out until it's over. WHACKOS! LOL

I think I will take a nap, but do need to go out and take photos of the sky in a couple hours.

What are you going to school for? Or are you teaching?

Oh no, Lady Sue, what are you doing being sick? Don't you know it is a no no? Who can run this place if you are in bed? We pray for your speedy recovery! On second tought, now that you are not watching over us, we can just kick off our shoes, jump all over the furniture and have a blast!!!!!

Bro. Jim, yesterday I was talking to myself and was afraid of being shut up in the looney place.... so I went to bed. But now I see you folks beat me to the punch and prevented me to have a tripple post. :) By the way, I like your Elizabethan admonition to Sue!

Gina, she sure does find good deals. You know something? She goes into the store and promises me that, "I am going to buy only one thing..." and then she comes out with a carriage load of stuff.

Hey, CB (neighbor), just make it sure they don't make you stand in the corner... ;)

Mr dear Brother Barnabas, I think you know that as you age one tends to revert back in years and my English accent is acting up again. Then, it may be this English keyboard!!!! £

Glad to see you posting, mate.

That is expensive in rural Alaska innit? Oops! Another Englishism....

    Cheers, and bless,

    Jim

Man - do you know that I figured I hadn't been here in a week and a half but it was January 21st the last time I posted??? Sorry!!

Things are ... normal around here. We're still just running along doing pretty well. We've all dealt with a virus this past week or so that didn't knock us down but certainly slowed us down. Just sore throats, fatigue and snuffliness and that was about it.

Otherwise, we've got almost no snow left and I'm sure the 50+ degrees tomorrow will help to get rid of more of it. The barn is a mess and the horses are ready to jump out of their skin due to being stuck inside with the ice for so long. But such is life. I AM hoping we get some more snow soon because I just love it so if any of you guys have any to spare, I'd be happy to take some here on Long Island.

Barnabas, there is a funds dividend for residents from oil revenue, but it started long ago and I'm pretty sure Palin had nothing to do with it.

It was $1,654 in 2007, although it jumped to $3,269 in 2008. That means a family of four would receive $13,076 in dividends for that year. Many people have inherited a place to stay on homesteads, are shareholders in native corporations, etc..Many hunt and fish for their needs.

The village you are reading about is in a more remote area than we are in. We have this funky "on that side of us is everything, on that side of us is nothing" thing going on. Which is pretty cool! If we go one way it's just going to get more remote. The other way...there's stuff!

We even have access to a Wal-Mart and Fred Meyer's. We do have a store in our own town so we don't have to go to Fairbanks if we can't get there. We have a tiny library that the kids can walk to. We even have a McDonald's, and a few other popularly known places. They're definitely more expensive though.

We don't waste food, that's for sure. LOL I do make most of our own bread and make the majority of our meals from scratch. My one daughter is learning to sew, and with the help of a friend has already made a pillowcase and I'm sure she'll be churning out other stuff soon! (hopefully not butter, hehe)
We plan for a garden this summer, that'll also help with costs.

I measure the girls and send their sizes off to China. Their grandparents there or their uncle or father (depends who is there) will buy clothing for the kids there, which is WAY cheaper than buying clothes anywhere in the United States, even after shipping.

So there are things that do make life easier. It's a much simpler, slower life out here, and not much of the pretense you see elsewhere. That makes it all worth it. Real people. Real life.

My extra work in the moose whispering business helps too when times get rough.

It's definitely not central NYC, but both are good in their own special ways!
