Morning Gina! I'm glad you're feeling better!

Today is looking like it will be a beautiful day! My 17 year old and I will go horseback riding after lunch but the rest of the time will be homeschooling (I WANT to finish school next week) and cleaning. I want to get the bathrooms cleaned before it starts getting humid and I need to clean out the fridge so tomorrow morning I can make up some salads in anticipation of the hot and humid weather this weekend. I'm going to make a black bean and corn salad, a potato salad with blue cheese and a pasta salad. With grilled meats, we should be set. :)

Dinner tonight will be Swedish meatballs. It's still not overly hot so that will work and since it's in a crockpot, it's even better!

    Have a great day all!

Black bean and corn salad...wrapped in tortillas. A nice cool lunch. Sounds WONDERFUL! My oldest and I do this (subbing rice for corn) and just love it.

Laundry is mostly caught up, got a couple loaves of bread and a dozen muffins made, dishes are in the dishwasher and running, the house doesn't look too shabby, the humans are fed and so is the dog, I snagged my first writing assignment with the studio in over a month, and I'm EXHAUSTED!

Tomorrow the Thunderbirds have a show going on. We've been hearing them practice. We watched them last year in Utah and it was awesome seeing them with the mountain backdrop, but hubby will have to see this one without me. The temps this week are between 90 and 100, and the last thing I want to do is hang out in deadly heat while shoulder to shoulder with a bunch of native Okies who are getting all hot and irritated. I've seen them drive. That in itself is skeery enough.

That sounds yummy yummy yummy! We'll be making it...well, if all goes well, tomorrow.
    Or Monday.
Depends when I get to the store....I'm moving a little slow today.
(I'm so not violating the rules with this big of a pic. Nope. Not at all! I'm simply checking to see if the mods can move faster than the turtle)

LOVE the turtle. It looks like ones we saw in Bermuda last week!! Let me know what you think of the salad. We're going to have it with dinner again tonight. :)

So I did some shopping today and once again spent too much money. But got my dad a nice beach chair for Father's Day and got hubby some after shave. Women - what cologne/after shave scent do you like? I love Polo but hubby wanted something different a few years ago so I got Drakar Noir. It's OK but I still love Polo. I sniffed a lot of scents but finally went to the Polo that I love. I love the tabacco/cedar/manly scent it has. So many that I sniffed smelled like ladies' perfume! Ewww!!!

Now hubby was off with the kids at the boat and he took them to the club pool and I'll meet him there at 5 with dinner to take to the boat. Should be yummy! We'll have the pasta salad and black bean/corn salad with what we call Block Island Steak. It's actually the marinade from the Once a Month Cooking cookbook for flank steak but the first time we had it was in Block Island, hence the name. It's a summer staple around here. :)

I like Curve for men, and love the girl version too, but it probably isn't your style. They have a couple different ones...the one I like is kinda watermelony.

    Good Afternoon Everybody,

Sorry I haven't been around much lately. I've lurked a little bit so I'm not totally ignorant of what has been going on in here.

Ann & Gina: The recipes you've been posting sound great, as soon as I get time I'm going to try making them.

Brenda's been in the hospital since last tuesday. She went in for some outpatient IV therapy and when they took her BP it was high and she was having some chest pains. She was admitted and has had a CT scan and a Heart Cath, both of which were negative. The dye that was used for the CT scan triggered a Migraine so she's been fighting that now. Her Heart doc told her that a Migraine can sometimes cause chest pains too. She was started on a new med yesterday and a Neurologist will see her tomorrow. Hopefully she gets to come home after that.

Needless to say I haven't got much done around the house this week. I've been making dinners and leaving instructions for reheating them since I'm at the hospital most of the time.

I'll try to stop back in when I can.

I had everything I needed for the recipe except for black beans and cilantro. While grocery shopping, I forgot the cilantro! Now I refuse to make it since it won't be the same. Either tonight or tomorrow I'll have to grab it, because I HAVE to make it tomorrow!

Church went fine this morning. There were a few thoughts thrown out to ponder.

Being Father's day, I took all five of the kiddos with me to go grocery shopping so Carl could have a little time to himself at home, and we'd told him where his present was so he could be entertained. (it was a guy flick he'd wanted)

Dinner tonight is quesadillas. It's our last dinner for almost two weeks with one of my kids, who is going on vacation with a friend's family. I almost cried talking to the dad today, right in church, but I managed to keep them back. I've never been away from her for that long all at once! :(

Rob - I'll be praying that the doctors can get this migraine under control and that Brenda can come home soon!! I'd bring some salad over if I were closer!! ;)

Today we had church and then took my dad to a local Chinese place. I gave him a folding chair to take to the beach because he likes to sit there and read a book. Turns out his old one broke just last week so this was perfect timing! Once we came home, I gave hubby his gift (aftershave he needed) and we've just been vegging ever since. He would be out on the boat if it didn't just POUR rain so I guess we'll just be laying low today. I'd do some laundry but it's 90+ degrees and the room a/c's have a hard enough time as it is.

    Blessed Sunday Everyone.

Not much better than a quiet Sunday afternoon like I'm enjoying at the moment. Everyone's tummies are full and I think most of the house is asleep! Even the dogs and cats, LOL! The new kittens are piled up in my lap. I hate to move them but I have to go check on the outside dogs. This heat is terrible.

Cuz, tell Brenda we all hope she feels better fast! Happy Father's Day to you!

    Good Evening Everybody,

Thanks for your prayers and kind thoughts. Brenda is still in the hospital. They've got the Migraine down to about a "6" on a scale of 1 to 10, but the problem is when she gets up to walk to the restroom, or whatever, her heartbeat goes sky high.

Now she's been put on complete bedrest, and they're trying to see if the new heart med she's on is going to work.

I came home to get dinner on for our daughter and the kids, and now I'm heading back to the hospital.

Will check in when I can.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MK! Don't hurt yourself trying to blow out ALL those candles at once. :p

FoG, sounds like it's gonna take a while for Brenda to get her strength back. What is the underlying problem with her heart?

    Good Afternoon Everybody,

I brought Brenda home from the hospital this morning, and she is resting at home. Her Doctor wants her on complete bed rest for the next 7 days and I aim to see his orders are carried out.

Brenda's had a congenital heart problem with a rapid heartbeat for years, but this is the first time she's been hospitalized with it. Hopefully the new meds she's on will help control the problem.

So while she's resting, and the Gkids are playing about, I'm going to surprise Brenda with a special dinner for tonight to celebrate her coming home. I have a general idea what it'll be but I might have to "wing it" on a couple of the dishes. Doesn't matter, it's worth it to have her home again.

Oops, delay of plans. Gkids are hungry and they want Hot Dog Casserole for lunch. Guess I'll make that then start on dinner.

I'm so glad Brenda is home! We'll continue to pray that she finds full healing. ((HUGS))

Well, I had hoped today would be a day at home since it's so hot outside (90 with high humidity) but I was called into church to go over some things for the 4th of July service and then to make a report for a problem we had with some software. I also figured while I was out, I'd hit Costco to see if they had something I wanted and when I saw it, I decided against it! :) But I got a few other things we need and of course left there spending over $100. LOL

Now it's time to clean the mess of a kitchen and organize a bit in there. I'm cleaning out our "Tupperware" cabinet completely - putting everything in there in a bin. Then I'll wash and load up the brand new containers that will hopefully all stay together with their lids and DH won't have a stroke every time he goes to put away the leftovers! :) Dinner tonight will be a fend for yourself for the kids (I have homemade potato salad and greek pasta salad and I picked up a rotisserie chicken at Costco) and DH and I will go out for pasta night at the yacht club. I just need to figure out what I'm going to make......(all the ingredients are there and we can design our own pasta dish and they will cook it for us).

Thank you Gina! No candles on my b'day. They were afraid we wouldn't be able to pay the power bill next month if they heated the house up that much!

Instead, the kids and I got up early and picked a gallon of blackberries and a quart of wild plums before the heat got too bad. Didn't matter that we were back in the ac by 10:30 and pretty much did nothing the rest of Monday, we still spent yesterday in bed. ALL of us! We are finally recovered today, but we are NOT going back out to pick again unless this heat wave breaks! There are tons of berries, but not worth picking in 100 degree heat.

Cuz, I hope your supper went well and Brenda is feeling much better. I pray that the new meds turn the tide against her problem.

Ann, I have found that the best way to not spend $100 when I go to the store, is to NOT go to the store!!

I have made myself stop "dropping by" Walmart for a gallon of milk because I ALWAYS come out with more! Now that our Walmart is "remodeling" and they have taken out their fabric dept, I am trying to break the "habit" completely. I don't buy clothes there much anyhow, Home Depot and O'reilly's are right next door and there are other places to buy groceries that have better quality stuff!

Mmmm, I miss picking fresh blackberries from our "secret spot" on the banks of the Rogue!

Hubby is making me some chamomile tea. I apparently have a good case of strep. It hurts too much to talk right now, and kept me up a good portion of the night. Thankfully I have antibiotics at home already for it, as the last case I had was stubborn and the first antibiotic was giving me trouble, but I had only taken one of the second one when it was realized that both at once was a BAD BAD idea on someone like me.

This seems to be an Oklahoma thing. I hate, hate, hate this state with a passion. It is hot, it is humid, there are tornadoes and storms constantly, and this strep thing is something people are always getting. Thankfully the new IBD med is working and I should be able to pick up more work, so we can save up and get out of here faster. I'll miss my church though. We live in walking distance and it's an awesome place. That part of it is like a wonderful dream, and would be my one and only thing that could make me stay.

Gina - I'm sorry about the strep! That stinks!!

Well, it's 94 degrees here right now with air so thick you can cut it with a butter knife. Needless to say, we should have thunderstorms in a few hours. That is our summer weather here: humid days=thunderstorms in the afternoon. The little ones are outside playing in the sprinkler and my almost 18 year old is taking a walk. She just called me to let me know that the house that we saw the horse trailer at DOES have two horses in the backyard! Well, isn't that special! Of course we're quite suburban so they will not stay - probably here for lawn mowing duty a bit? Who knows.

I really should be up doing some cleaning but after horseback riding in this heat, I'm POOPED! I'm having a cup of tea now (yeah, hot tea - weird, right?) and then I'll at least get to the kitchen....

We tried the new recipe yesterday, annsni. It seemed to go over quite well! I can't really swallow, but the taste I got of it was good! I get a new med today that should help with that.

Last night was a trip. I had medication left over to treat strep...I'd gotten sensitive to one med, then this was prescribed and I only took a couple of them then it was time to stop, so had plenty to take. So I did, thinking I'd save money by not going to the doctor.

But last night it got really bad. Couldn't eat, got all dizzy, and hubby said it looked like my thumbnail got hit with a hammer. I held out my hands all my nail beds were like that and it freaked him out so he took me to the hospital. Fever was hitting about 103 AFTER both tylenol and motrin.

Doctor looked in my throat and didn't even test. I don't think I ever had a doctor turn away and go EEEEEWWWWW YUUUUUCCCCKKKK!!!!! That's BAD!"

He told me to keep taking what I'm taking at home, but it needed jump started so I got an antibiotic shot on one side (OWIE!) and a steroid shot on the other (owie but not as big as the antibiotic one) and something for the fever, which brought it down to 100.5 at last check. Guess it's a stubborn one!

About strep, he said "Oklahoma will do that to you." I KNEW IT! It's Oklahoma. It's a cursed state. If you're not being blown up by tornadoes, you're being knocked down by strep.
But they do have a really nice art show once a year.

Well, good evening, or good morning, or good afternoon! I'm still in the healing stages but doing much better with the strep thing, and amusing myself reading Anna Karenina. I'm enjoying it immensely, but wish I knew more of that time and place in history. Something tells me I'd like the reading even better with that knowledge.

Today has been busy! I've got a few girls going on a church trip so we shopped for items needed for them, did some major grocery/household shopping, and then out of the blue hubby and I decided we desperately needed a few minutes of relaxation, so two of the girls babysat the two youngest and we got to go out to dinner. YAY! It was VERY nice to be alone, sit at a table, and get served. I was thoroughly exhausted, and it was great to not cook. Church took up the rest of the evening, and now I'm ready to cuddle in with my book, my love, my pillow, and nice cool air blasting from the fan!

    Well good morning again!

I'm working on making Oreo style cookies. As in maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but the concept, the basic recipe, and the desire...they're all in my head and I'm working up to the point of actually doing it. LOL

Hope everyone is having a good morning! It's a rough one here, but that's not so unusual. I'm waiting for meds to kick in, then I'm gonna walk out of this bedroom and pretend I wanted to!
