COMMON GROUND COFFEE HOUSE #29

As many of you may know - because I've told you - I spent the last two summers trying to get a plastic bridge built.

what I haven't told you is - that the bridge is in the country - and the old bridge was used as a cattle pass.

The designer decided to pave the bottom of the stream for the new bridge with concrete (the old bridge's stream bed was creek gravel).

Due to heavy runoff last spring, caused by excessive snow last winter, just off the downstream edge of the concrete paving - developed a four foot hole - not condusive for easy passage of cows.

Long story - short - we added a 15 foot concrete apron on the end of the new channel paving - running up the cost to the taxpayers.

Several times I heard people question as to why we paved any of the stream channel with concrete or who's idea was this $200,000 cattle pass. My answer became - Who was the designer? Where did he come from? And what do people in that country think of cows?

The designer's name is unimportant, except to say that he's a Hindu who came to the USA from India, and in India cows are considered holy.

I've since shared this story with the Indian/American designer - including the cow comment - and he laughed as louding at my sense of humor as any other person I've told this story to.

Dan - warped - warped sense of humor!

If New York City and Long Island would agree to leave the State of New York - I'd be happy to throw Hillary in as an incentive!

Dan - no Hillary fan - wasn't a fan of Bill either!

Dan - you are REAL trouble now.

Offending the most powerful authority . . .

And Hillary, too.

I have been thawing out all day! Now, I have to go back out and get cold again. I think it is up to 10º here so it should be a snap compared to the 3º weather I stood out in this morning!

I've been thinking (yes, I DO think SOMEtimes) about driving to Wisconsin to be with my daughter Thursday and coming back Friday.

The 'check engine' light is on in my car. Hubby said I need a new oxygen thingie and it wouldn't hurt to drive the car, but I know I would be worried the whole 400 mile trip with that thing on.

I know they have some really bad weather up that way too. I am going to check it out on the web and see how the roads are. I guess I could always put duct tape over the engine light so I won't have to look at it.

It is too cold for hubby to fix it outside right now (no garage) and the mechanic is booked up all week. So, we will just have to see...

Speaking of posts, I know I posted over 13,000 this year 'cause I joined January 2, 2003!

§ue (freezing, posting and thinking)

And Sue, THAT has to be a record! I remember the first year and Wemaster trying to ENCOURAGE posting by a "race" to 1000 posts.

Took a YEAR as I recall!

Wish I had nothing to do, so I could post so much, and just try to keep up with Dan...(Posting just to see what my count is)

Cheers,

Jim

PS. Dan, I figured how to get another legitimate post in....rather than editting a post, do a second post with the correction

Sue, we've been praying for Shawna's upcoming surgery. Last Sunday I gave your email to our Pastor, together with the family picture and he asked the whole congregation to pray for her. He even showed the picture from the pulpit, and folks were looking at it after the service.

If you decides to drive to your daughter, and be with her during and after the surgery, please convey to her our love - and be sure you have a safe trip!

Barnabas: Thank you so much! Shawna is truly humbled by how many people and churches are praying for her. It has renewed her strength.

I would love to be with her Thursday, but with the bad weather and the car acting up...I'm just not sure if it will be possible.

I will post if I decide to go because I will surely covet your prayers for traveling mercies.

Timotheus, I am at a disadvantage cos I get a senior's discount of ten percent, so my count is lower than it should be.

Cheers,

Jim

Sue, if you feel that you ought to go then go. The light on the dashboard means very little. We had the light on ours for weeks if not months, and even after bringing it back to the mechanics, it came back on just last week. Aside of the "Service Engine Soon" light now I have the "O/D OFF" light. Which is for over-drive. But my overdrive works like a charm, so this Saturday my wife and I go to a Christian mechanic friend who has a computer to analyze the problem. He will be able turn off the lights and tell us what the problem is. So, we shall pray for your safe journey and God will be with you, I am sure.

Brother Jim, not as round, you say? What I see is that you are getting up there yourself to the 6,000th post mark. And unless you start triple posting, Brother Dan will surpass you in a jiffy.

Brother Barnabas, and look at when each of us joined the Board!!! I have been here longer,,then, when I was moderator, my posts decreased cos I thought I should listen more and say less....doesn't work for all moderators, but it did me in in the numbers crunch.

Cheers,

Jim

Brother Jim, I am saying this in whisper mode, so lean close and listen.... I don't want the other folks hear it. I am sure you know from the Bible that there is a big difference between numbers and weight. God never counts, He weighs... So, your fewer numbered posting (together with mine) has weights!
Now, don't tell anyone that I said that.... whisper mode OFF.

Sue, driving with a bad oxygen sensor will cut into your gas mileage but unless the light has been on for months, you're pretty safe driving it. However, I'd worry too. Could you swap vehicles with Dale for the few days?

Well I joined 1 year and 2 days ago but didn't notice how many posts I had when I came on Sunday.
