Just got a call from the owner of the Corn Stove Store. He needs me to work all day tomorrow so I'll not have email there or my IM. Just wanted to let everyone know!

I still think it was rats in Ireland - but they may have been inside the snakes that Blackbird (I mean St. Patrick) ran out of town!

Dan - always thinking - but not always making sense!

Busy too busy to do much "hanging" (or chasing snakes) today. Stop by to check in on all. Glad to see everyone still upright! [IMG]

And I think we should change March 17 to ST. BOB'S DAY.

    I was saved on March 17, 1957!

What then? If we didn't wear bowties we'd get pinched?

Got an ORANGE bowtie (not gonna wear Catholic green) that I wear that day!

Have a GREEN one, too, with fishhooks printed on it. It's the one in my pix (if you could enlarge it, you'd see) and use it for witnessing - that's the "hook"!

    Good morning all!

Sorry Dr Bob - green is Irish nationalist, not Catholic - orange is British loyalist, not Protestant. The only Irish who wear green here on Patricks Day are at the parade. To show the day we all wear a sprig of shamrocks. Sorry you can wear your green tie if you wish!

    Common misconception.

And Dan, it really was snakes that Patrick supposedly ran off.

It messes everything up having a resident of Ireland on "Board."

    See you all later! [IMG]

Honest? I know Orangemen march, but linked it to Protestant, not to "British" ties.

Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks? Thanks for straightening that out!

    Still wearin' orange!

Admittedly, the ties are there, but the 12th of July, when the Orangeman have their main march is a mark of respect and loyalty to the British crown. Also, no Catholic in the North would march with the Orangemen.

The religious aspects are of course there, but it truly is a political struggle.

Green or orange, take your pick, both colours are in the tricolour! [IMG]

We have a warped perspective from this side, for certain sure. We think of it ALL in religious terms.

Think the Irish Catholics from Boston may have skewered the thinking!

Did you know that the early Irish tri-colour and even a few staunch Irish today, refused William of Orange's British colour and clung to papal yellow?

Or that Patrick was probably born again?

Or that Patrick's true colour, acknowledged in the national seal of Ireland, was a deep blue?

Or that Roger is boring sleeping people with his ramblings?

Sleep it is, Roger, but appreciate the good lesson. We stereotype everything blithely here in the USA, just like folks do of "ugly Americans" by watching Kojak reruns on the television!

Sorry I can't stay longer, but have reading to do before I sleep and it's already the "wee hours". Have some Irish/Welsh/Scot roots and love to learn about it.

My "griffin" is Welsh, not Irish, but I think a little of the "gryphon" must be in me as well!

Did you also know that one of the reasons why 17th March was chosen was because it MIGHT have been the day he was converted to Christianity.

    Good Morning All!

    Rats or mice? Hmmmm

Dan: Me thinks you are confusing Patrick with the Pied Piper! [IMG]

Debby: I have a soft spot for Patrick too. I was raised RCC and attended St. Patrick's Parochial School. We learned all the Irish songs and Irish lore and I was a teen-ager before I realized I wasn't Irish!

My babies were all sung to sleep with "Toura Loura Loura". I still sing all the Irish songs (love them), wear green on 3/17 and cook corned beef and cabbage (something I now understand does not happen in Ireland).

Morning Sue - try bacon and cabbage - but bacon is like a shoulder ham. Sadly, modern Ireland bears little resemblance to the Quiet Man version :( .

To all - I bought regular Horlicks this morning at the store - lovely stuff, I'll have to see if I can find it in chocolate over here.

    Good Morning Roger!

I 'love' corned beef and buy a brisket once a year for 3/17. The rest of the time, I buy it in a can. ;)

I have Ovaltine on my grocery list for my next trip. It is almost like Horlicks (with healthful benefits etc.), tastes good, and I can buy it here. [IMG]

I remember Ovaltine from my youth - barely ;) . Is Ovaltine chocolate? The original Horlicks I bought today is the malt flavour.

Need to get my message worked on today as well as the next issue of the gospel newsletter we distribute in our town.

Will be popping on and off as the day goes by.

I believe it was "Willie" Joe Namath who's commercial line went somethin' like, "My ole pal, Ovaltine!"
