Now Now Blackbird! You KNOW I was born in Pritchard, Alabama and didn't move to south west Georgia until I was a teen. I talked like you PRETEND to talk until I got married. Hubby gave me elocution lessons and people up north teased me so badly that I've pretty much lost my '3 minute to say Harvey' accent. Gib is a preacher's kid and lived in a number of places. He doesn't have a true southern accent either.

FOR THE RECORD.... NEITHER DOES BLACKBIRD! He's just pulling your leg! I've gotten his preaching tapes and his accent is quite mild for a CAJUN. LOL

I can't post a sound track but be SURE that me and Gib's gonna be talkin' trash about all y'all by 5:00.

    Diane

I'm not a KJVO in the sense that they use it in the versions forum, but I do prefer it.
I had an embarassing moment in our church last Sunday. Ususally I copy and paste the portion I am preaching from (6 to 10 verses) into my notes, because it is much easier to read. The small print in my Bible is becoming a little blurry without my glasses.
Unknown to me, I had inadvertently copied and pasted the ASV text that I was preaching from. I use Swordsearcher, so there is a number of versions that one could copy from. At church, many of my congregation were wondering why the verses I was reading didn't match up with their Bible. It wasn't til I got home that my sons told me the same thing.
I said "Uh oh." We compared from the different versions from Swordsearcher until I found out that indeed I had copied from the ASV. That is when I felt embarassed.

I was sure glad at that point that I wasn't preaching in one of those "rabid" KJVO churches.

Now my accent is a real conundrum! Lived in various places from 1955-1960, Alabama from 1960-1973, PA for college, then Chattanooga 1976-1983, back to Huntsville from 1982-1995, and Ireland since. Many of the Irish we meet think we are from Canada, some say the US, but none guess the South. Our Alabama friends say we "talk funny" now. I don't know what I sound like?!? [IMG]

Blackbird, I live In Valdosta,GA (I'm a transplant from Oklahoma) but some of these 'natives' really have that "3 minutes to say Harvey" accent!!
words that have one syllable to other regions have 2 0r 3.

Our oldest son's name changed drastically when we moved here. In Alabama it was "Ma-a-a-att" but in Dublin it became a VERY SHORT Ma- [IMG]

Well, Diane must have left to meet Gib already 'cause she's not on AIM. [IMG]

I bet they have roast BB members for supper! (Just kidding...Diane already said she was gonna be talking about us though)

No one ever gets up MY way. I will have to be content to talk on the phone. :(

I too have listened to Blackbird on tape - and it's all a matter of perspective - I didn't have to guess twice that he isn't from the northern tier of states!

Dan - plain speaking New Yorker!

Whoops, Sorry Sue. Nick has been doing some history and geography online and he shut down the IM evidently.

We're about to leave in just a few minutes. Gib got stuck in Macon behind a wreck but made good time anyhow. He's taking a short nap and we'll pick him up at 5:00 to go out to eat. I can't wait to meet him in person. He's so fun to talk to anyhow!

Dan! Thank you for the snow! How very neat!

I'll post some pictures when I get home tonight. I'm not sure what's going on with my camera tho. I could only take 3 at Nick's baptism. Jim says it's because I keep dropping it. What do you think?

    Talk to you later guys!

Blackbird has no accent! He denies it!! But once in seminary---one of my buddies married a girl from deep south Louisiana---pure Cajun---complete with a Cajun accent----when she talked--I was the only one who understood her----I had to tell her husband "what she just said!!"

"She said she's gonna kill you when ya'll get home!"

"She said she was goin' shoppin'---for you to give her a hundred bucks!"

"She said she wasn't gonna help you with your term papers anymore!!!"

Sue said somethin' to the order---"Nobody ever comes up MY way!"----to which Blackbird writes---that he is still contemplatin' attending the Southern Baptist convention in Indianapolis this summer---is that close??? Of course---Miriam and I came close to visiting Diane once--but Miriam said she felt funny steppin' across the Alabama line into Georgia---because she's an Auburn grad---and folks in Georgia don't take too, too kindly to Auburn grads!!! But Blackbird seriously doubts anybody in Georgia would recognize an Auburn grad if they stood face to face with one!!! [IMG]

I think Sheila could translate, but here it is again in full..Have a go and think rhyme.

So, it is a bit of alright to rabbit and pork (chat)on in chitty chitty bang bang (Cockney slang) until dickory dock (clock) strikes eight and wife uses dog and bone (phone) to fetch dustbin lids (kids) home for uncle ned (bed)...

Now, I am sure that is crystal, me ol' china, and stay indoors away from potatoes in t' mould lest you suffer darren gough.

    Cheers,

    Jim
