COMMON GROUND COFFEE HOUSE #67

I spent a year and a half working with 9 to 14 year olds at Buckner Baptist Charities in Dallas. Every one of my older children knew how to iron. In fact, they insisted on it! They want to wear their jeans in fashion which required a great deal of starch and a crease that would cut a steak! The pants had to be able to stand on their own!
That is a pretty good price for a sedan and a 2001. Is this not above list or book price? Have you considered selling it on Ebay? They send the money and when the check clears, they get the car. I don't like selling locally if I don't have to. If I were ready to graduate, I would be looking into this car.

HI everyone
Well, I had a lazy day and I love it!
Tomorrow it's back to work in the cold rain. They PROMISED snow, but hey, it's the Pacific Northwest, we do rain real good out here.

Someone mention Christmas stuff? I have a glass manger scene and I think it should be up all year, don't you? It's tiny. Oh yeah, and my daughters bought me - are you ready for this? - PURPLE Sockings! A mom and dad bear on them, but they are sooo pretty. I am NOT taking them down - ever!

Ironing - I do it about 3 times a year. It's when I run out of clean ironed shirts that I have to do something like that. And then I usually put in a good movie or 2 and iron while I watch. As for the sewing machine, I gave the 30 year old relic to my daughter with 5 kids. Hey, it still works great and she needs to do repairs and hems and stuff like that.

I have a good number of Christmas things that I never put away. I have some porcelain Santa's and a tree made of rusty iron. I have a couple of angels too.

I've had 6 people contact me about the car off Freecycle but they all want to assume it without a credit check. GMAC won't do that!

FreeCycle doesn't allow anything to be posted that is for sale. That's why they call it FREEcycle.

I wanted some books someone had and asked if they could be sent to me C.O.D. which would have been cheaper than me using gas to go get them (60 miles). The moderator said "no" because no money can be involved with anything on the site...

Shame on that moderator!!! Who was he? Sure wasn't me!!!

Listen! While we're on the subject of money---how much would you ladies pay for a goooooood Border Collie---you know, Man's best Cowhand dog!!!"???

I would LOVE to have a Border Collie, but I have no place for one to run.

Well, it's going to be -5º when I go to the corner in the morning and I'm certainly not looking forward to it!

I really feel sorry for the kids who have to walk no matter what the temperature is - especially the ones who don't have decent winter clothing to keep them warm...

I have a back ache from trying to do too much today so I am taking the heating pad and watching TV in bed until I fall asleep (which I don't think will be very long).

Pleasant dreams all!

Well I've finished ironing Jim's work clothes. I still have a few items that I keep not ironing. LOL. I got SO much done today!

Ty called from Alabama to talk to me. He told his grandfather 'We don't say 'it ain't'. Say 'it's not'!' The grandparents were pretty shocked. Now if I can just get him to say white, eye and even Diane instead of why-t, ey-uh and Dy-in. He is still with his grandparents so I can sleep in again tomorrow.

I'll have little Jack for 4-5 hours tomorrow so I'll be around to buy you! Can't get much done with him here and I have no laundry to fold.
I'll have the brother and sister after school. They didn't come today either. Their grandmother was visiting so they stayed with her.
Paid vacations for me. LOL

I've got the perfect answer for ironing and wrinkled clothing.

Buy all your clothes one size to small for you. When you finally get squeezed into them - the wrinkles will disappear!

Personally - wrinkles (on my face or on my clothes) don't bother me at all!

I've tried sleeping on my clothes to get them wrinkle free...

First you place your clothes very very neatly on your bed, lay a blanket over it, and sleep (on top of it)!

It works.

Good morning all:

It is 3ºF here this morning and THAT is COLD! What a day to run errands...

I have to get Brent's glasses fixed and make an appointment for an eye exam so we can get him some new ones.

I have some pictures to pick up at Wally World and we have to drop by the church and turn Brent's second quarter Paces in so he can get his report card.

It is NOT going to be fun standing on the corner this morning!

Bundle up and stay warm. I worked as an electrician's apprentice in the great state of Alabamee. I was were working in downtown B'ham were it was wet and cold. We were digging ditches. Several of us went to the army - navy store and bought up field coats, camos, gloves, hats. Oh, we looked cool, but were so bundled up we couldn't move.

That's Brent by the time he puts on snow pants over sweatpants, sweatshirt over t-shirt, boots, heavy coat, stocking cap, hood from coat, thick gloves, and a scarf wrapped around his neck.

When we get really wet snow he also wears a fireman-type long yellow raincoat, on top of everything else (with hood) that goes down to his ankles!

He stays warm and dry, but walks very S L O W L Y!

On my 'old' corner (worked it for six years), I handed out many, many stocking caps and gloves (to kids that didn't have any). On my 'new' corner (worked it for three years - so far), I can't do that. They don't buy their kids warm clothes, but don't want "charity".

Wrinkled clothes are NOT acceptable to my Jim. I starch and iron his work clothes.

During the winter, I wear stretch leggings almost every day except church day. They're warm and comfy and go so nicely with sweaters.

Jack's mother has a job interview. She wanted to know if I could keep him not only while she goes to school but while she works. Some days she'd work 8 - 2 and others 2 - 8. I told her no. I can't do any housework while he's here AND because of her drive time, he'd be here every day when I go to pick up the school children. There'd be no room for him in the car! I already have Ty in a car seat, Max in a booster seat, Nick in the side seat and Morgan in the front seat. No room for another child and especially another car seat! NO amount of money would convince me! She's not pick him up until almost 9 p.m. some nights. We need some family time.

Well I can't do a darned thing today until after 1:30 when Jack goes home. Just sit and post and watch toddler t.v.

Our windchill is still in the teens! I don't mind because I'm warm inside and have a heated garage. I feel very sorry for the poor in our area tho. There are places they can go but many are too proud or try to heat in unsafe ways. We lose many children each year to fires.

Good morning all!

Wow, ya'll were chatty while I was gone. I may never catch up on all the threads!

We're nice and cold here too. I didn't think to run out and start the car before taking Son to school so we froze the whole way there. Just as I pulled in the heat started to blow. I'll have to be smarter tomorrow cause hopefully Bitsy will get to go back to school.

Diane, what kind of heat do you have in your garage? Here it is against code to have heat in the garage.

My gas furnace is located in our garage in the utility area. So's my gas hot water heater. They keep our garage at about 65°. The garage is also under the house. The back of it's under ground but the side has windows.

We have a sprinkler system in our garage. It's code for new homes.
