COMMON GROUND COFFEE HOUSE #67

AVL1984

It's total electric here. If we want gas, we have to put a tank in the back yard. But, we've got the camp stove and propane heaters that we use in camping. We also are going to be getting a kerosene heater. The way the house is set up, that thing would heat the whole house! We used the propane stove when the electricity went out here along with the propane lamps and kerosene lamps. Worked great! We hear the electricity goes out here quite often. So, we're pretty well prepared.

It's still really bitterly cold here. 23 the last time I looked, and the pressure was 30.80, which isn't good for my ears. The wind chill was 2. Don't think it's going to reach the 32 they were talking about.

It's up to 30° here, Tony, but our wind chill is still low 20°'s. COLD! Strong winds.

Well, stay warm. I'm thinking about making a pot of coffee or having a cup of tea. I've got to have something for lunch, too...but am not quite sure what to have. Viv might be coming home early. Dell's having all kinds of problems this week. I know that the tsunami made getting the computer components nearly impossible for a week or so.

You too, Tony.

I'm going to try and think of something nice and hot for supper.
Maybe some soup.

Son put in his order for chicken and dumplins, before he left for school. It'll be his reward for being the only kid in our family at school today.

How did it get to be noon already? Time sure flies when your cleaning house and rather be doing something else...........

Snack time is over, see ya.....

Believe it or not, I can get good cornbread up here.
There's a vendor in the Food Court of One Liberty Place (across from where I work, it's the tallest building in Philly) called "The Big Easy" that supposedly serves cajun cuisine. They have red beans and rice, bourbon chicken, blackened fish, jambalya, and yummy cornbread! Good stuff!
Interesting thing about it is, everyone who works there is Asian.

Bean and corn meal (maize meal) can only be found at the health food store.

Ewww, Diane! I LOVE potato bread! We used to have it a LOT when we were working at a bakery in Minnesota.

Sue, I was thinking of having beans and cornbread, but Viv wants to wait until the weekend for it. So, we're going to have breakfast for supper tonight.

I got to have the left over potato's, onion, celery and carrots in the mushroom and cream of celery soups that we had with the roast the other night. Did a pretty good job warming me up.

This looks like white bread but it's made with cooked and mashed potatoes. I've even found a recipe that uses instant potatoes. It was okay. We cut large pieces and butter it up really well. YUM!

I don't fry anything but liver and okra. My stir frys aren't in oil.

Have tried all of those ways of having the potato bread. Loved them all.

Diane, we use a little olive oil or sesame oil in our stir fries, but only a pinch. Both are good for you. We seldom use vegetable oil or corn oil, and NEVER Canola oil. Sunflower oil is also healthy.

Tony, I'll use olive oil when it's necessary but usually steam veggies and then quickly thow them in with the cooked meats in some soy sauce for my stir fry.

Evening all!

Supper is cooked and eaten. Bitsy is asleep(with a fever, again), Son is trying to get a headache, and Precious is enjoying the banana bread and brownies I made earlier. I'm ready to put my feet up and rest. Too bad for me that all three are in MY bed.

Oh well, it's been a pretty good day in spite. Bitsy didn't start with the fever until this evening. It seems to get later and later in the day before it starts, maybe tomorrow it won't start at all.

I get to sew tomorrow if we don't have to sit in the dr office again. I already have two pairs of pants cut out for Precious. She needs them NOW! I've never seen a child that could go through as many pants as she can. I buy, she tears up. She shoulda been a boy. Son rarely ever tears a hole in his pants. He could use some more pants too, IF I could find some that fit him, but only because he has worn the same size for two years and they are all worn out.

I'm going to enjoy some more of those brownies, anyone want to join me?
