Blackbird, you crack me up! [IMG]

Viv had to take th Sonata this morning. Her car is on 1/2 tank, and it cost almost $40 to fill it the last time. It will go around 300 miles on that tank, but the Sonata will go 375 miles on a tank and it costs almost $10.00 less to fill up. I don't really like the idea of all those miles being put on the car, but gotta do what we've gotta do. So, I have the Lumina here today. No air, so I don't know I'll be taking it anywhere. There is rain coming in from the West up towards Nashville and Lebanon, TN, but I'm two counties S of all of that. Can sure feel it in the old hands shoulders, legs and back, though. It will probably shut Dell's power out...usually does.

Tony, that's great. It's wonderful to hear how the Spirit can overcome in such circumstances.

And speaking of doctrine, we had a deacons meeting after church yesterday to examine 4 candidates for baptism. This was the first time I know of that anyone who got this far to be meeting with us (after having taken baptism class with the assistant pastor) had to be turned down. The gentleman went rambling on when we posed the usual questions about his salvation and who Jesus is, etc. It became apparent that he did not accept the doctrine of the Trinity, amoung other things. It seems he has been taking spiritual counsel from anyone who would talk to him, including some JWs and unknown internet sources. When we called him back in and explained that we did not feel he was quite ready and grounded in the faith, he took it well. The assistant pastor offered to work with him on this matter, and anything else he had issues with. All I could think was "what were they being taught in that class?" I am thankful that the board was courageous enough to take the stand, and I pray that this fellow will have his misconceptions cleared up. Just goes to show you never quite know what folks are getting when you teach, I guess.

Anyway, bright and sunny, low humidity, here in Philly. Beautiful day for praisin' the Lord! [IMG]

Brent made a sign, as I was climbing the ladder, and hung it on the tree that said "Go Grandma Go!"

My SIL should be here about 3:00 to put the two new sheets of OSB down. Dale will be home around 4:00 to put the rolled roofing and flashing on.

Hopefully everything will be finished by dark...

    Back to work...

Not brave, Thankful. More like foolish.

I thought I was going to have to call the fire department to get me off the roof. I got a couple rungs down on the ladder and couldn't turn around to get the rest of the way down.

Talk about 'calling out to God'. [IMG]

PTL for your good report Gayla! [IMG]

    Is everyone tired or what?
    I know I am.
I cleaned the Batcave today, and did some laundry, and had to pack a bunch of stuff I sold, takes a lot of trouble sometimes to get the right box to hold the items, plus went to women's bible study this morning and we had a luncheon afterwards to celebrate one girls 40th today.
Checking my email and going to bed.

Our dog (a Bichon Frise [French for
    curly hair puppy]), Muffin,
    brought us a mouse

That mouse has been eating the peanut butter
off the top of the trap, ignoring the
PB on the bottom of the trap, and NOT setting
    the trap off.

No smart mouse can trick our Muffin [IMG]

    Morning all:

GAYLA..Praise the Lord on the good report!

Ed...sounds like you've got a got kitty, though I personally can't stand the critters!

Sue, glad you're okay after all of that stuff! That's how I really hurt my back years ago, falling off a split level home on my back with 1/3 of a square of shingles on top of me. It took hours for me to crawl 30 feet so people could find me. My partner had gone to get more shingles and was gone for several hours. I never did go to the doctor, and now I wish I had....

Well, it's a steamy 75 here this morning, and rain is falling. There's a small shower in our area. But, it will be gone in just a few minutes. Then the steam will really start to make things difficult here. It's supposed to get to 95 again today, but be cooler tomorrow.

Viv took the Sonata again today. It is getting far better mileage than the Lumina. I was going to try and drive into town for a meeting with the former pastor, assistant and another man, but I can't because I'm not feeling stable enough to drive right now, and probably won't the rest of the day.

Wow...now the rain is coming down really hard. The storm doesn't show up that heavy on radar!

Hope ya'll have a great day. Lately I'm not sure when I'm going to be able to post and when I'm not, but will when the Lord allows.

    Good morning all:

Well, I made it out of bed, but is my back ever sore and stiff!

SIL didn't make it over yesterday. He is a truck driver and didn't get back until after dark.

The plank boards (on the original roof built before plywood) under the plywood were rotten in one place, so they have to be taken out and replaced.

So, I guess it's up to Shawna and I again today to measure and cut the 1x4s and OSB and somehow get them up to the roof. Then measure and cut the rolled roofing and get IT up onto the roof and cement it down.

After that, all that will be left is measuring and cutting the flashing and getting it nailed in place.

We're having a problem deciding what to do with one corner of a peaked roof that joins the flat roof. It was a mess and now it's even worse...

§ue (will be SO glad when this job is finished)

Sue, it is really raining here! Hope you get that roof completed today.

Tony, Muffin's breed is cat like, but Muffin can't stand anything that does not belong in His house. I don't know how long he was trying to get our attention. I think he beat the poor thing to death on my chair. I just thought he was playing. He was so happy afterward that he ran and ran and buzzed and buzzed. Some call it blitzing.

I wonder if my 84-year old painting student will come out in the rain. I doubt it. But I'm prepared if she does. I taught a 91 year old once. It was more like let her do her own thing, but anyone she was delightful with all her travel stories. She wanted to go to Ireland and wanted ME to go with her. I didn't take up that offer.

I have a friend who goes to retirement homes and teaches painting. Not sure I could do not. It takes lots of patience. They pay her a little bit, but the largest retirement home here wants volunteers. I don't mind volunteering my time, but they don't want to furnish the supplies either.

Hope everyone has a glorious Lord's Day!

We have no rain forecast for today, but you never know...

Dale just called from work and things are slow and a few men have been sent home. He is going to ask his boss if he can have 1/2 day off so he can come home and help on the roof. PTL!!! Some MUSCLE! [IMG]

Hey Sue get a picture of the problem area and post it. I'm sure you'll have to use metal flashing around it to keep it from leaking. Use heavy gloves when you bend and cut it or you'll slice your hand open.

(just cause I won't play on the roof, don't mean I don't know how  )

I will have Shawna take a picture of the problem area - no more ladders for THIS girl.

I know we will have to use metal flashing, but this problem area is a couple feet in height and several feet in length.

The previous roofers (50 years ago) really botched it up. They filled the hole in with TAR and lots of it. We don't know if we can even get it out!

    Hole???? Tar???? Yuck!!!!

IF you can't get it out work over it. I'm sure you've been using regular shingles on the rest of the roof, but you might want to consider using sheet metal in this area. We replaced our entire roof with it year before last. You can put it over anything so long as the roof supports are sturdy(rafters and wall innards). It comes in a variety of colors. You flash under like you would a regular roof.(It will cut your hands to pieces so remember those gloves.)

I'm headed to the dentist in about a half hour but I shouldn't be gone long. Unless of course someone wants to go for me????

Not me! I went to the dentist last night and had to have a wisdom tooth pulled. Had been causing me horrible pain. The extraction was easy - a cavity had destroyed some of the root, so it crumbled when he pulled on it. yuk!

BEAUTIFUL day in Philly - low humidity. And here I am stuck in the office with a hole in my jaw. Oh well, got to think of something soft for lunch.
