Jim: I bought a hardback copy in very good condition for $1.68. It should be here this week.
I bought my oldest daughter the whole set of "Little House on the Prairie" books, now, Brent is watching them on TV.

It is my bedtime so I will say good night.
I am on a fast tonight for diabetes and cholesterol blood screenings tomorrow morning.
I will go to the lab after I get off of the 'corner'. I'm not sure when I'll get the results back, but whatever they are, God is still in control and together, we can deal with whatever happens.

Good morning all:
It is only 61º, but the humidity is 91º.
High of 80º expected today with plenty of sunshine. It looks like no rain is sight through labor day.

Morning all:
It was cooler here this morning. We still had a wee bit of drizzle, and now, as the light is breaking, it is quite foggy. We are supposed to reach a high of 88 today. It is supposed to be somewhat cooler in the evenings and during the daylight hours as well for the next week or so.
Vivian said that gas prices here are up to $2.699 this morning at one station, and as high as $2.899 at others for regular gas. Some in Nashville are charging as high as $3.01 a gallon. That's just crazy!
Sue, will be praying for your screeningss. My diabetes is supposed to be under control right now, but some of the indicators show otherwise. Yet, I'm not a doctor....Sorry...can't help myself, I HAVE TO SAY IT! BUT I DID STAY AT A HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS LAST NIGHT!!!
Praying for blackbird and Tater both! I have friends down in MS and AL who were hit pretty hard by the storm. Have an ex-aunt who lives down that way, too. Hope she's ok. We've not been able to reach anyone by cell or landline!

Yep, Sue...Mom said it was expensive in Pekin, too! I cannot believe it! To tell you the truth, we may have to take the van and stay up in the parking lot of Wal-Mart in Lebanon, TN pretty soon if it doesn't go down. Viv's gas last week was $66 to go to work. That's well over 25% of her gross for two weeks. We've been eating soup and cutting back, but there's not much more we can cut.
My sister in law in PA is getting ready to lose her condo because she cannot afford to drive 1 1/2 hours into Pittsburg every day. She may end up living down here with us, too. She just bought a new car, and she can get a temp job at Dell making $8.65 an hour. But, there are some jobs out there in the market where with her experience, she can be making $12-18 an hour.

Brent and I have started riding our bicycles as many places as possible.
We put six miles on them yesterday. Not only do we save on gas, but we get health benefits from it also!
Of course, I'm not sure I want to make contact with the bicycle seat TODAY...

LOL...Viv and I have to get wider seats on ours. I'm not really fond of those "banana" seats! I also have to get a set of handle bars that are higher up instead of leaning down. I think Viv wants some too. We've had the bikes for seven years and they've spent the last six in storage! They've only been ridden twice.
Do they make any of the old bikes like I used to ride as a child? With maybe gears?
We have lots of bike trails in our city, but we also have lots of cars and I'm afraid of cars.

Good Morning to everyone! Hoping to hear from our members in the path of that awful storm. I watched some of the pictures last night. Terrible. I feel so helpless. I just can't even imagine how they will clean all that up and get on with there lives.
Our city has plenty of apartments. Most people are going to be displaced.
We heard from Ed's step-sister who lives in Gulfport. She is ok but there is 15 feet of water where her house is.

Hello, people! It would see the storm passed over me and headed on up toward NC. We got a little rain, but that was all.

The most heart-rending story I saw on our news was the chap who was on a roof and watched his wife washed away in the flood waters. I can't imagine that.
We are getting heavy rains as we get the tailend of the storms. Supposed to rain here from last night until tomorrow. We are not getting the strong, 80km winds that were predicted.

Oh, Jim, I didn't see that story. How horrible!
I'm afraid there are still people trapped in attics. I'm more concerned about the people than the looters. Most of the stuff is going to ruin anyway. Get the people out of there. I wonder where the looters are staying. Do they even have a place to take the stuff?
I had never thought about having an ax stored in an attic or other place where one might be trapped. We take tornado precautions here. Our attics are usually blown away.
I can't even imagine how bad it must be there.

New Orleans was told to evacuate and they refused. I heard some people were having "hurricane parties." It's really sad that people won't listen to warnings, and that their posessions and subborness keep them from saving their own lives. Some things never change.

Here's a question for you all - If I were to build my home on a flood plain - I couldn't get insurance to cover it in case of floods.
New Orleans is below sea level - due to man's own actions - building those levees. Should they be allowed to rebuild in that same location?

The people of Noah's time came first to my mind as well.
Florida is just a huge swamp and they were allowed to build there.
Holland is the same and they built the dykes, and continue to live there. I guess people can make use of space and survive.
The news stories talk about so many poor who could not afford to leave the area. That is the sad part in such a rich country, and so modern.
In every disaster, including NY, where some take advantage to steal.

Dan, good to see you. I would not want to rebuild there if I lived there, but some people are very stubborn about their homes...Remember all the problems of relocation when The Corps of Engineers and others built dams to solve flooding, etc. The Tennessee River Authority comes to mind, also.
Anyway, I suppose New Orleans will rebuild again.
