Sorry to read about your roof, Sue. Wish I was closer to be of some assistance. You used rolled roofing, if I remember correctly, and if you overlapped and joined the laps with a tar-like waterproof sealant, it shouldn't be leaking.

If the body of the roof is done correctly, the leak must be coming from a joint above it. You can locate the source of the leak by using dyed water. Pour one colour in a suspected spot and watch for that colour coming through...then repair that location with a fluid tar-based waterproof roofing solution.

    Cheers, and best wishes,

    Jim

What a Day & Night!! We had a high wind advisory today, tonight, and for tomorrow. So naturally out township fire department gets calls for 6 different field fires since 10am Saturday. On the last two fires we had 11 different fire departments helping us with mutual aid.
My Wife, two daughters, and I have been hustling to the various fires taking sandwiches, gatoraid, and water to the firefighters from the various departments. At last count we had made, and delivered, over 200 sandwiches.
It's now just a little after midnight, and it has started to rain. Police & Fire officials aren't sure if the fires were from people burning leaves in the high winds, or if we have an arsonist loose in the township. Our guys have been at working fires since 10am Saturday, and finally cleared the last fire about 11:30pm Saturday.
Time to get some sleep(and hope we don't have any rekindles). It's going to be a short night.
Everybody have a great Lord's Day!

    Rob

    Good morning all:

Thanks, Jim. The rolled roofing we used was self-adhesive so no waterproof sealant was used.

It is leaking where the porch roof joins the main part of the house. The rolled roofing was shoved up underneath the regular shingles, but maybe not far enough. I guess we'll just have to tar the whole porch.

Actually, even though the roof of the main house isn't leaking, it won't be long before it does. We really need to have the whole house reroofed, but it needs to be done by a professional roofer and finances prohibit that at this time...

Have a blessed Lord's day all,

    Good Mornin!,
Hadn't been by in a couple mornin's so figured I'd ramble in. Wife's at work, & BH is sleepin, though she'll be up soon (suns comin' up).
Had an idea about your roof, if there's room where the two join you might put up some flashing over the adjoining area. Then caulk around the edges of the flashing just to be sure nothing gets in. If that don't work then ask my sweet little wife....she can fix anything!

I'm not sure what we'll do at this point. The porch joins the house on a 'slope'. There is one part where we used flashing, but we didn't use it in that particular spot.

I guess hubby will have to get up on the roof today and see if he can figure out what needs to be done. He is NOT a roofer...

Hubby is the one who roofed the porch in the first place.

There is no value in getting 'er done if it isn't done right... [IMG]

First of all I want to apologize, I didn't bring my homemade cinnamon rolls or biscotti, I will try to remember next time.

Anyway, I don't know if any of you likes Robin Williams, but I met him when he was filming "Mrs. Doubtfire", it was outside the restaurant where they where shooting the scene of them having dinner there.

This was in Danville, CA., we were antique shopping when we saw a crowd of people standing around a roped off area. I asked a woman what was going on, she said "Robin Williams is in there". In a few minutes he came out dressed as Mrs. Doubtfire and we shook hands with him. He played the role while meeting the people. He used the same voice portraying her as in the movie.

Good evening, everyone. Robin Williams is very talented actor. That must have been exciting to see him in person or rather in character. ;)

We had a busy Sunday as usual. Wonderful worship service this morning. We had lots of special music. Children's choir, Sanctuary Choir, and our music director sang "Moses". All were so great. We had lunch with son and his girl friend.

And then church services again tonight.

    Lovely Lord's Day.

Hope you all have a great week.

    Betty

    Good morning all:

It is cold this morning. Brrrrrrr!

My hands have been bothering me the past few days. They even kept me awake Friday night. I'm assuming it's arthritis as my knuckles are swollen and very tender. I have been using Aspercreme and I'm going to buy some Aleve today.

I crocheted yesterday. I don't know much about arthritis, but I've always heard if you don't move the affected parts they will get worse. They do seem to feel better after crocheting last night.

I am going to try and make Peanut Brittle and chocolate-covered pretzels after Brent finishes his shcool work today.

I'm still not sure what we're going to do with the roof. Dale hasn't been up there to look at it yet and it is supposed to rain four days this week. Grrrrrr.

    HAGD all!

    Goodmorning!
Sue - Sorry to hear about your hands. You're right to keep them moving. My daughter has JRA - juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. She was diagnosed when she was 4. From the very beginning the drs have prescribed exercise, to keep those joints moving. It really helps her. We have always kept her very active. Swimming lessons (she started with those recommended by the drs), gymnastics, ballet, softball, and later in the teen years, tai karate. She earned her black belt, even tho sometimes it became painful. She feels better afterward tho. More recently in college she has been keeping up with karate and playing on the soccer team. She does take aleve or ibuprofen at times. Hope you feel better!

Sue, If you could get one of those wax machines, I forget what they are called, but some beauty shops have them. They heat the wax. You place your hand and arm in them. The wax coats your hand and arm and when it dries and hardens, you just peel the wax off. They work very well, but are a little pricey, but someone might have one on freecycle to give away. I might even find what the name of the thing is.

The heat and the wax seem to ease the pain and also really softens hands. I really don't have a place to keep mine plugged in so I forget to use it and I probably need to get new wax. People also use this for tired feet.
I just don't like to use the same wax for both.
    ;)

Remind me to ask Ed which vitamin he takes to keep his hands and wrists from hurting. He is at work right now.

Good Morning everyone. It is a little colder here today and will be very windy.

Oh, look at the time and I have not started the Monday chores. Well, I have all day, don't I?

I have been reading some topics that I would like to post in, but I think I had better not. I'm probably too "old" to have an appropriate opinion.

I'll stop by later for some of those chocolate pretzels, Sue.

    Morning all:

It was a great day at church yesterday. We met in the building the Lord allowed us to rent. It was great to have a facility that could actually handle all of the crowd. The SS lesson and the sermon both during the morning were great! It seems that the hinderance that the preacher received at the former church has been lifted, and he's been preaching some great sermons. And our SS teacher really gets to the heart of the matter on things and it's great! We had our first evening Bible Study in nearly 3 months since the split from Midland.

For the church outreach, next month we are renting a booth at the local middle school and putting in things that the ladies of the church have made from baked goods to home crafts, etc., and introducing ourselves to the community and giving out info on the church. The booth rental is what the school will using to raise their funds, and the distributors/representatives of the organizations will be raising money for their various causes through the sale. All of our money is going to a building fund/land & building purchase! The facility we're now in is selling for only $150,000, and it's worth far more than that! We're praying we'll be able to buy it.

Sue, that roof has really been a pain! :( It has been raining here off and on all day and is windy at times. We're supposed to have some severe storms sometime today or tonight.

Sue, it's been windy and rainy here, and we're supposed to be getting rain two or three days this week.

    Hey Everyone!

Been busy busy here. I got on early this morning and had a reply nearly finished when I touched something and lost the entire thing. Then the phone rang and my day started......It's not done yet.

Thankfully it rained last night. We think that finally put out the fires that started back up again yesterday. It hasn't cooled down any, it was 75 this afternoon.

Today was meeting day with the group of parents who are getting together to deal with some of the school issues we are all dealing with. We received some encouraging news, made plans to meet as a group with the local special ed/504 coordinator and discussed the possibility of meeting with the school board in the near future.

Sue, I've been aching as well the last few days. I think the weather has something to do with it. I believe there is a glove out there that you can wear while you are crocheting that provides support for your hands and relieves some of the ache. I want to say I saw them at Walmart, but it could be that I saw them in a crocheting magazine.

Wish I had some advice for your roof. I know it is agravating to have it start leaking all over again.

Tony, glad you had a good service. The craft fair sounds like fun. I hope you do well with it.

Thankful, you're never to old to have an opinion! But on in there.....uh, I mean....go ahead and join the conversation. :D

Pamela, this may sound like a strange question, but does your daughter have any odd shaped joints? Precious has two toes that flip over sideways, almost far enough that her nails touch the floor when she walks. She's been diagnosed(I this remains the final diagnosis) with polyarticular arthritis. Mainly because of things other than her neck pain.

T is home and cooking dinner, so I'd better go help him out. The man suffers from selective eyesight and can't find things that are sitting right in front of him. ;) :D [IMG]

mk - nope, not that I can recall (oddly shaped joints)...just verrrrrry large feet...LOL!

bruren - I drove through Danville, CA last fall...very pretty place...was raised in the Bay Area. I've never cared too much for Robin Williams but really enjoyed his performance in Patch Adams. I thought it was exceptional.

mk, your meeting sounds encouraging. Maybe someone will listen and do something.

We are awaiting a strong winter storm. It would be nice to have some rain, but I don't think we are going to get it.

Hope you all have a good evening. I'm going to watch a movie.

No, I think it will just be cold and windy.

Well, I just had a panic attack and thought I was going to have to wake up Sue if she has already gone to bed.

Some how I logged off the Baptist Board. Now, of course, I knew my user name, but what in the world was my password. I probably have not logged off in at least two years.

Actually how would I wake up Sue, if I couldn't get on the BB.

Well as you can see all is well. I guessed at my password and here I am. I'm writing that password in my book. I might not guess correctly the next time.

Well, after that I think I will go to bed, but I'm not logging off.

    See you in the morning.
