That's great news, Rob!

Dr.Bob: The incense got to me this morning too. <cough-hack-sneeze> But I'm still glad I went. It is the same church I grew up in and I don't think it's changed a bit - right down to the large pipe organ in the upstairs choir loft.

Thankful

Sue, do they still play the pipe organ? Most of the churches that have pipe organs are just letting them gather dust. It is such a shame. Most had rather have the electronic keyboards than a beautiful piano or organ.

The incense has always bothered me. I went to a Christmas Eve Mass once, but had to leave because of the incense.

That is great news, Rob!

There is one time when incense is great. A few years ago I had a spring burial (it's hard to bury folks when there's 3 foot of snow on the ground). It was an unusual situation that had the local Catholic priest and me doing the service together. Long story short - we have black flies like you would not believe from the time the snow melts until mid-summer. There we were getting ate alive when the priest fires up the smoke pot and voila! No more black flies. I've thought of getting one of those censers for my own use.....

Love the old organs. I grew up with those organs one worked the billows in a separate room. It was almost like riding a bicycle. The organist would give me the sign when to start pumping...I think it was punishment because I couldn't carry a tune.

In my first church in Saskatchewan, the organ worked from two pedals at the bottom...pump, pump...pull the stops,,,pump, pump...work the keys.......wot a lark that was.

In our church to-day..no organist...we just slip a disk into the slot and it plays by itself...Not the greatest, but sounds like an organ.

Cheers,

Jim

Thankful

Throughout my life, when I was pianist or organist for a church, it seemed that there was always someone who would come along and want my job. It always seemed strange to me because I was never paid. Why did they want my job?

Nearly six years ago, I volunteered to play the organ at my present church when the organist resigned, thinking that I would just play it for a little while until that "someone" comes along that would want to play the organ. I played the organ for three months and then one day I was given a small check. It seemed that the organist position was a paid position. I said well I'll continue to play until you find someone else.

Well, I'm still playing and for the first time it is a paid staff position. Very confusing to me! Of course the pay is small and I return the amount of the check to the church.

Playing the organ may becoming a lost art.

Jim, that is a wonderful story of about the old organs. When we were in Barbados, we visited an old church (established in the 1600's). There was a large pipe organ, but there was also the modern electronic keyboard in this historic "Anglican" Church.

Betty,

I love the organ. I often went to the church at 2 and 3 in the morning, opened the stops and raised the roof.

I still have a keyboard at home, but afraid, with my hands paralyzed, I just can't finger the keys anymore..so I just puch a button and let it play on its own....

Cheers,

Jim

I used to have a small organ at home and I loved it. I played it all the time. It finally 'gave up the ghost'.

I got a keyboard a few months ago and it had so many buttons I couldn't figure them out. It had never been played so I gave it to my grandson and his bride (both very musically inclined) for Christmas.

I can't breathe! My nose is running faster than I can stop it. How can something run and be stopped up at the same time.

I can't talk, but I can sure cough.

AND I know it's allergies. Everything is in bloom. It never froze enough to kill anything.

*sniff* *cough* *cough* *sneeze*

I hope you get to feeling better, Bitsy.

Well, folks, I think I'm heading to bed with a good book.

I feel really tired and my tummy is starting to act up again (that would be stress).

I will be up bright and early in the morning and hopefully facing a calm day.

Pleasant dreams all!

Friend of God, Wha'd I tell ya...We serve the Living Saviour!!

Sue, hope when you see this tomorrow you're all rested up & feeling better!

mcd...If a person can catch a cold...why can't they ever catch a running nose???

Geener...Thanks for being so....you!!

TOday was,...well not quite sure. We got up gettin things together to leave & a friend of Agee's called wanting to know if we had a printer she could come use. Agee said yes, & wanted to get hers up to date fore we left. It was working fine but the black cartrage was bout empty so she put in another one & bam!, quit printing. Course she had to fix it before we could leave.
We headed for G'boro at 12:30! But had a promising day of it. If they keep their word we should get at least 3 calls tomorrow on possible jobs.Plus while we were in G'boro the cell rang & Agee says...it's for you. I take the phone & it's one of the mgrs at the temp where I got let go yesterday. She wanted to know if I could come to work in the morning! I told her I thought I was fired for missing too much work, & she said huh?? Don't worry about it, just be there. I said OK, then me & Agee both said Thank You Lord!! Now watch us get 3 or 4 complexes tomorrow & me have to quit anyway!
I'm turning a disgruntled BH loose. We've been so busy with paperwork since we got in I didn't have time to play with her tonite. I just finished eatin a bit ago, took care of Sam & had to run by fore I call it a nite.
Well I'll check in fore work if I have time to do more than grab BH. Have a blessed nite all!!

Good morning all,

It is going to be in the 50's through Saturday, but it is also going to be raining and storming all that time.

I think today would be a good day to tackle the 'picture chest'. I can walk down memory lane to happier times and Brent can see what his relatives 'used' to look like...

HAGD all!
