Thanks a million, for your encouraging comments, further to my previous submission, it is interesting to note that at the USAF Burtonwood one of the last concerts by the late Major Glen Miller and his band was given only days before the fateful flight from England to France in 1944. Idid not attend the concert, however my parents did. In the spring of 1945 we schoolboys invited to an open day at the base, where on display was an aeroplane I will never forget perhaps because of the aliteration, it was a "consolidated catalina" as boys allowed to speak with the pilots it was breathtaking. in addition at Christmas that year the childrens party, prizes were given for any song recitation et. I remember quoting Isiah 55 "Ho everyone that thirsteth come ye to the waters etc." and receiving some chocolate bars which were a real treat because wartime rationing (although the war was over rationing continued until 1951). Iam sure Jim from canada will remember tyhese days. Although born into a Christian family, I did no come to known the Lords salvation until I was 20 years old. when I was serving in the Royal Navy, and heard the Gospel message at a seafront Baptist Mission being held at Rothesay one of the western islands of Scotland. thanks for enduring the meanderings oif an ancient but saved by grace mariner. kind regards , mr archie

Actually we all do our part here to help out. I fold the laundry,...Sam puts it up...somewhat...& BH supervises!!
Sue...thanks, mabey thats why I've noticed her putting on an ounce or two! I found a BIG tree out at the lake where I can get her enough acorns to last into next spring. Plus we have a lady that calls when her pecan tree starts dropping them. She's goona feast this winter!!

Yes, I remember the war years, rationing and all, and the planes flying over head. Do you happen to remember pink bull's eyes? They were a round black candy with pink centre. They would last all day ans were often given out free at the shops.
During the Blitz, us lads were in a trench, against the wardens, and we threw stones at the German planes. I can't recall bringing any of them down, but it wasn't for lack of effort.
Were you up by Liverpool as a youngster? Our best man still lives in Bootle. I haven't been up there for years now. Wife and daughters were over last year and went right up to Scotland.

Good morning all,
We never did get any rain yesterday, but it was windy all day. It's a pleasant 64º this morning heading for a high of 93º. The sun is coming up and no rain is forecast until tonight.
My oldest daughter (Laura) from Indiana is popping in this morning for coffee and donuts (she's bringing the donuts). She is so busy (with her family and job) that I seldom get to see her for more than a few minutes at a time so I'm looking forward to a nice chat.

And Jim I can agree, I don't like holidays much myself. Not cause everthings closed but it can be plum dangerous trying to get somewhere at times! Agee is actually off this saturday for a change & I was gonna take her fishing till I remembered it's a holiday weekend, won't be able to get on the lake in our little jon boat for fear of being run over.
Guess I'll try just to do whatever else she wants, which I'm sure will involve some kind of manual labor....sometimes I wish she would shop more!!
Guess what gang...I'm gonna be a paperboy!!! Never had a paper route growing up, but hey..there's money in it now!! Plus I'll be considered a sub-contractor so I can deduct most everything!! The best part is I'll work rite here in Denton & I can get Agee to work or back home with no worry!! And...it's a daytime route, no getting up in the middle of the night!

Good morning preacher!
Brent and I delivered 200+ papers for two years (until the doctor said I had to stop being out in the bad weather). We made good money and the only time we had to deliver a morning paper was on the week ends and holidays.
I was a sub-contractor also and was able to deduct gas, car repairs, new tires, insurance, etc. on my income tax. I even deducted repairs on my computer because I kept all my records of the paper routes on there (we had two routes).
Brent will be getting a paper route next year if we can find him one close to this neighborhood.
The Christmas before we quit, we ended up with $600.00 cash and a lot of homemade 'goodies' for our efforts. No one wanted to see us leave...

I really do like this old machine, but it is getting on it's last leg I'm afraid, & almost impossible now to update with the old processor.
Least I learned a little from where we tried to get the cleaning business going, can apply that too!

Jim I was born in 1937, so the war years are remembered through the eys of a child. the treats as candy were "victory V Gums" and similar cough candy. I know the city of Liverpool well, and could easily contact your "best man" I married in 1959, my wifes name is Noreen, who was a nurse in my home town , having been born and raised in Enniskillen, Northern Ireland.we have 5 children? (now in their thirties / forties) and we now have 6 grandchildren, and another expected in late August this year. I forgot to ask if english tea is available in the "coffee" house, when the occassion arises I enjoy a cup of "earl gray" tea with chorley cakes or a piece of Ecclefechan tart, and i would be prepared to share these treats with anyone who wishes to participate etc kind regards, mr archie
