Complicating Salvation

what I was looking for was something simple......

8 ... The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. - Romans 10

I know you are looking for something simple. But the sinners prayer isn't it. Only those drawn by God the Father will be saved.

I am sure by the end of this thread you will be thoroughly disgusted. This place definitely overcomplicates salvation.

The problem is that nobody can or is willing to embrace the gospel before they are born again, regeneration has to precede faith.

1Co 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

The natural man in that verse is not a reference to a lost person.

Paul uses the word "natural" to refer to someone still in his original (sinful) state, prior to conversion. The Greek word ψυχικος - psuchikos (“natural”) can be defined as “animal,” as opposed to “spiritual” πνευματικός -pneumatikos

Paul refers to "natural" or human wisdom verses spiritual wisdom which of course either one can be used by regenerate people.

All married men must be "puffed up and proud."

Eph 5:33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

Was true once, The Father passed that drawing job to the Son.

John 12

32“And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to Myself.”

All men are drawn by Jesus Christ.

Reverence: a feeling or attitude of deep respect tinged with awe; veneration.

And the Apostle Paul boldly proclaims...

8 ... The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Salvation is supposed to be very easy to receive! We cant make it so ridiculously complicated that none can go in!

I am a supporter of the bible broadcasting network and am also supporting a niece in going to Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. I am also very active in the media ministry at work at have shared the gospel with many. I am Pentecostal, but not anti-Baptist either. One guy, after reading one of the books I gave him, wanted to get saved, but not in the Pentecostal Holiness church that I attended. He explained to me that he was brought up Baptist and would rather go to a Baptist church.

A guy I worked with is a Calvinistic Baptist by the name of Ray and I looked him up. Ray said they had a Franklin Graham testimonial film that Sunday night and there I brought my friend. After the film he went tearfully up... But there was no altar! They took him to a room, in which I followed, and then proceeded to talk him out of it! I am like... He has tears running down his cheek! The man is ready to get saved! We then prayed the sinners prayer and my friend got saved.

A lot of denominational folk are like the old Pharisee, as the scripture bares witness....

But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in. - Matthew 23:13

Jesus says "whosoever believes has eternal life". So if a person "goes forward" they already have eternal life if they believe enough to go forward. What they need to hear about is believer's baptism and repentance. This is how they "went forward" in the NT.

Consider the service....

1. Many people in an auditorium
2. Well dressed and dignified
3. An invitation to salvation is given!

I believe it is a tough move for anyone to move and go forward to accept the invitation for salvation!

Thanks rockytopva for sharing. I know this is common practice, but in the NT they told believers to repent and be baptized. The alter call has replaced this as part of the gospel message and leads people to believe their works saved them. When in fact, God had saved them before they went forward.
