Concordance Use (Revised Poll)

I apologize for posting two versions of the same poll. This revised version allows for multiple answers.

If I am using a Bible concordance for English search in the KJB, I prefer Cruden's Complete Concordance. If I am doing English search in NIV 1984 or NRSV, I use a concordance specific to those translations. And if I am looking up Hebrew or Greek information, I use Strong's Concordance.

And I prefer to work in paper format rather than online or software formats.

There was an old saying: Cruden's for the crude; Young's for the young; and Strong's for the strong.

I use Cruden's for a quick reference, but mostly use Strong's as a guide. Remember, that even concordances do not have all the facts correctly.

I listed some searches I do and then put "other" because I strictly use software. Don't even have a concordance anymore, except for an 1876 Greek concordance that belonged to my father.

I find my software to be much faster and more useful than any concordance I ever had! My best search program in English is "Power Bible," and in Greek Bibloi. In Japanese I use something called the J-Bible, but the much better A-Bible is out now and I plan to switch to it. In Power Bible you can do searches with single words, phrases or multiple words. In Bibloi I can search both Greek words and syntax, with multiple dictionaries (not including the way-out-of-date Strong's), and I can access loads of ancient Greek documents through the Perseus database.:type:

Since there are 2 polls I guess I’ll give my answer twice:
I’ve studied Greek for years & still am not anywhere near perfecting it! But I rarely use concordances for understanding the meaning of a specific Greek term b/c context all too often is needed to know this. However, they sure are useful for finding English verses needed for sermons.

I used to own a Strong's Concordance, not really sure of what happened to it.

I like to use Strong's at Blue Letter Bible, lots of features and easy to use. I will occasionally consult other concordances.

One of the problems with a hardbound concordance is that it is limited to a single version.
Software allows searching multiple words and phrases in multiple versions in a fraction of the time of the hardbound concordance.

It has eclipsed the book form.

I use E-sword or Strong's depending on which is handy. E-Sword is used the majority of the time.

Usually I'm looking for a specific passage whose reference I can't remember. (I memorized great amounts of scripture as a child and on through the years, but except John 3;16 and Psalm 23, there are very few passages that I can match with their references.

Occasionally, I'm looking for all the references to a particular subject, say.

Less commonly I'm looking for the differences in translation between one passage and another similar.

I own a NASB exhaustive concordance and use it every once in a long while. Since I don't use the KJV anymore at all, I have no use for my old Strong's.
