Congressmen Tour Gitmo

Progress has been made to improve conditions and protect detainees' rights at the U.S. prison for suspected terrorists, House Republicans and Democrats, including one who has advocated closing the facility, said.

The U.S. lawmakers witnessed interrogations, toured cellblocks and ate the same lunch given to detainees on the first congressional visit to the prison for suspected terrorists since criticism of it intensified in the spring. A Senate delegation also was visiting this weekend....

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee is one of many Democrats who have called for an independent commission to investigate abuse allegations and said the facility should close. She stopped short of changing her position after the visit, but acknowledged, "What we've seen here is evidence that we've made progress."...

Are these people proven to be terrorists? I noticed the word "suspected". The whole thing is scary and I am almost certain that one day Christians will be considered the "terrorists".

I doubt hardly anyone is trying to commit a terrorist act against your country right now. Why would they do that when they're busy fighting against you overseas?

So we should let them out so they can go join the war in Iraq and Afghanistan once again?

Duh.

Ok my post didn't come up.

No. They shouldn't even be arrested unless they had committed acts of terrorism. "Suspicion" without proof is not grounds for arrest.

I'll say it again...some day Christians will be considered the terrorists. :(

As for "duh"...I believe that gives permission for me to use that sparingly eh?

They weren't arrested. They were captured in battle in Afghanistan.

The detainees held at Gitmo were combatants against coalition troops in Afghanistan and Iraq. Suspected terrorists inside the borders of the US are not sent there - they are detained in jail here in the US and are afforded all the legal protections of the US constitution.

Yes. That day is approaching. It is going on all over the globe, but it hasn't happened in the US yet, although the internment camps are ready. (Only nutty conspiracy theorists believe that, though - Christians who believe everything their government tells them scoff at the very idea.)

I would say that there are some instances where some "christians" were terrorists historicallly (Crusades, slavery). There are extremist who latch on to religions everywhere.

church mouse guy:

Murder of the unborn is heinous but going by things I've seen you say, why are you against it? Are you against the abortion of Canadian, Mexican and Arab babies? A simple yes would make me

I remember when I worked as an electrician for Morrison Knudsen refurbishing subway cars. The floors were made of asbestos and had to be removed by a special crew that would put plastic and tape over the car then wearing special suits and resperators would use air chisels to break up the 3/4 inch coating. The cars were then swept out and uncovered. We electricians would then go into the car to do our work. This all took place in a large bay seperate from the rest of the plant. At the same time the welders would come in with air arc welders and cut through the rivets holding the metal threshold down. Huge clouds of dust were the result. First we complained because we didn't have resperators. So we got some. Then we complained from the headaches they gave us, ever wear a full face resperator for 8 hours? It feels like your sucking your own eyeballs out.

Anyways, the company decided to do an air quality test to see if there was any asbestos in the air we were breathing. So, the test was going to be on Sunday. The friday before we (electricians) were told to go through and clean up any and all dust that had been gathering over time. We used air hoses and vacuum cleaners opened the huge doors on both ends of the bay to air it out.

Sunday came they did their tests and guess what, their was no asbestos in the air samples they took!

It never crossed their minds to do the testing when the huge clouds of dusts were swirling around while we were working...or did it? After that it was business as usual.

My point? If you know your going to have an inspection you clean up everything you might get busted for before the inspecters get there. Then afterwords you can do what you want.

Guards say that a regular occurance, through interpreters, is a prisoner saying to a guard,"When I get out I'm going to find out where you live and kill you and your family"

hillclimber with all due respect, how credible is that?

That's like saying when disgruntled politicians lose an election they tell each of their constituents they are going to kill them and their families.

I heard it in the course of a radio show interview with two men that were first hand hearers of this type of threat which was very commonplace. Returning soldiers from Gitmo and other detainee facilities report similarly. Compare this first hand witness, with the political leftist's second, third and forth hand witness.

The very fact that prisoners say these types of things tells me that we are far too lenient in these camps. Imagine our men in the Hanoi Hilton saying that.

Yeah I hear ya. But what do you want them to do? Torture prisoners? If they say threatening things such as that, all that has to be done is prosecute them for a crime and keep them in jail or execute them. I don't think it's anything to fear. How would they find out where they live anyways?

Torture is a nasty business, the act of which has never been sanctioned by this nation. Interrogation methods of many ilks can be extremely effective in gathering information, that benefits our efforts. The whole bru-ha-ha over the woman with the leash, the panties on the head, etc., may very well have been good methods of gathering information from those detainees. They have the same regard for women as they do for dogs, and so using them in that manner may have been good. My sensibilities were not pricked at all over that whole affair. I was far more upset with how this nation responded to it.

Do any of you think that the enemy would treat our soldiers with any respect? If you do, you are duped. They cut off thier heads, drag them through the streets, hang them from trees and bridges, after burning them. These enemies of mankind deserve none of this molly coddling, (sp) that America demands, and our soldiers face increased danger because of this PC garbage.
