The Constitution Party appears to have elected Rick Jore to the Montana legislature, but one vote. There will surely be a recount, so his victory is not certain. This race was also a 3-person race.

Every vote counts in Lake County
By JOHN STROMNES of the Missoulian

POLSON - A tentative one-vote victory in the House District 12 race in southern Lake County by Constitution Party candidate Rick Jore prompted state Democratic leaders to urge voters Wednesday to present identification at the election office if they had used a "provisional" ballot in Tuesday's election.

As it happened, only 33 provisional ballots were cast in the race, and none of those voters responded to the ads and phone messages.

Congratulations.

The Family First Party (the Christian party in Australia) was on the news this week with confirmation that they have won a senate seat. This is the start of something that is for sure, maybe it is a small start, yet like a snowball it can become an avalanche

Provisional vote may swing election
By JOHN STROMNES
Missoulian

POLSON - The provisional vote of a mentally handicapped elector who works at a sheltered workshop in Ronan could change the results of Tuesday's House District 12 race, where Constitution Party candidate Rick Jore now leads Democrat Jeanne Windham by a mere one vote.

The leadership of the House of Representatives hangs in the balance. If Windham wins, the House would be split 50-50 between Democrats and Republicans, allowing the newly elected Democratic governor to name the House speaker. If Jore wins, the House leadership will remain Republican.

Lake County election officials will meet today at 3 p.m. in the courthouse in Polson to determine which of the 33 provisional ballots cast in the HD 12 race will be counted in Tuesday's canvas of the election.

The handicapped elector's vote is likely to be one of the few provisional votes cast in the HD12 race that will be counted. At least 25 are expected to be rejected because the voters were not residents who registered to vote in Lake County.

Jore holds lead with two votes
By JOHN STROMNES of the Missoulian

POLSON - Constitution Party candidate Rick Jore of Ronan lengthened his razor-thin lead slightly from one to two votes Monday in the closely watched and scrutinized House District 12 legislative race.

The change in results came after Lake County officials verified and tallied provisional ballots, allowing most of these ballots to be counted and rejecting a few others for technical reasons, mostly because the electors were not legally registered in Lake County. One was not registered at all.
