I have been lurking around here for a long time, but I just can't resist this.

Having grown up in an acappella church, I find the entire topic to be much ado about nothing.

Thank you for a balanced view C4K. I have no problem with a blended service using a variety of musical genres, dramas, skits, Q & A, etc. The balance is in making sure that whatever we do is pleasing to God, helps us grow and enables us to minister to each other and our world when we leave sanctuary. I see no evidence in my scripture that says I have to exclude one type of music over another. I recall some years ago, my pastor at the time, using U2's "I still haven't found what I'm looking for" to illustrate his message. It worked and people were still talking about that unique message months after. As someone else here pointed out, God is more interested in us worshipping Him period> than whether you come singing off-key hymns or I come dancing with bells on my toes. It's our hearts He wants, not our excuses or rationalizing.

Are you saying 'it really doesn't matter; do whatever you want'? or 'everyone whould be a capella, that is the only way'?

I'm not sure what he meant by that statement, but surely that would be up to the individual church, staff leadership, and ultimately the Holy Spirit to decide, right?

... just throwing this out there, because I have meditated on it before...if the option is given for each person to either stand or sit as they wish...doesn't this take away from the "corporate" part of gathering together to worship?

I really don't think so. We're all there together, everyone's singing the same song (or at least hearing it). We are gathered together corporately to hear the Word preached, so I believe these people can choose to worship in the posture that's the most descriptive for them without sacrificing the "corporate" part of worship. Just my thoughts, and I'm sure others will disagree.

I am saying it really doesn't matter. Worship comes from the heart whether the full band is playing Shout to the Lord, the piano is banging out I'll Fly Away, or just me singing Amazing Grace or How Great Thou Art a cappella while driving to work. It's between me and the Lord and I am not going to let music style get in the way.

You may be new here, but you've said what we've tried to say. Good statement!
