Contempory Music/blended Services

Hey, guys, why can't Romans 12 apply here?: IN HONOR PREFERRING ONE ANOTHER? Just curious...

This is true, and was my point. But in one sense, the old-style advocates have "knowledge" as well-- of the evil that certain music might lead to or be associated with, plus an emphasis on the Bible that the contemporary crowd does often lack. So the passage does speak to them too.

 

The rest of the passage about the weaker brother also talks about educating those who are weak, so that they can eat meat and not be offended. Most people don't like to listen to that part though, since the first part really supports their musical position better! In other words, teach people the truth about music instead of humanistic mumbo jumbo about the evils of the rock beat, and its effect on plants, and start using good music to glorify God, contemporary or not, and don't blast your CCM when you know someone isn't mature enought to realize its Godly music, but don't be afraid to explain your position and help them grow to be more strong in their abilities of discernment. (Hey if the Traditional music supporters can get down on me for being immature for not recognizing the evils of Steve Green, turnabout is fair play)

I know I have a somewhat toungue in cheek approach here, but I am serious about the underlying principle!

 

What's this about the "evils" of Steve Green? Fill me in, Superdave...

Wow... Being a new guy here, I was amazed to sit down and read this entire thread.

We have blended worship services at my church, and I think they go quite well. No one performs, and God is glorified using tried-and-true songs of the faith, and newer love songs to God. A quick overview of the past 6 months of our worship has shown about a 60/40 blend of old/new. It has worked well, with very few people voicing concern.

I much prefer the blended format rather than an "old" service and a "new" service. Then you run rhe risk of having two churches meeting in the same building. Just my humble opinion. The older crowd need to worship with the younger group. The younger crew needs to learn and sit at the feet of the wiser, and the older folks need to listen to the younger generation's voices of change. Of course, change in a Baptist environment can be a sort of oxymoron anyway, right?
