Cops Attacked In England

Headline UK Daily Mail: "Machete wielding man attacks police officers and leaves two seriously wounded in horrifying incident caught on video in Manchester".

You would think at this point the Brits would start arming all of their police officers with firearms. I mean really, how many more incidents like this will it take? This is not the first incident, with one of the worst being that terrorist attack in central London last year where an unarmed police officer was stabbed to death. We have a saying here in America that can be applied to Britain - when seconds count the British armed police units are minutes away.

I sincerely hope that our police are never routinely armed.
However, if the police themselves asked to be armed then it would be very hard to refuse them. So far, the police themselves prefer to be unarmed. Having said that, they have batons and pepper spray, and some carry tazers so they're not exactly defenceless.

Also, there appears to have been only one officer injured and he has been discharged from hospital.

The attacker was obviously mentally ill. I'm glad no one shot him. Mercy triumphs over judgement (James 2:13). I'm also glad that he wasn't able to get hold of a gun.

As a retired American Police officer and Master Swat instructor, I can say that it would take a moron to oppose a knife or machete with a baton, Taser, or chemical agent. I patrolled with a pistol on my side, one on my ankle, a semiautomatic shotgun, sub-machine gun, and sniper rifle in squad car. At times a M-16A2 was added to the mix. When I knew I would be encountering a edge weapon, either the shotgun or sub gun got out of the car with me.

During our Hurricaine Katrina some years ago the man of the hour one General Russell Honore who came in a took charge said in response to a reporters question; "Don't get stuck on stupid". I believe you Brits and your unarmed police have in this day and age gotten stuck on stupid.

Look at the video, that crazed man is stopping at nothing in wielding that blade and law enforcement be dammed (or anyone else for that matter)! Criminals like him need to be stopped quickly and surely, and batons and tasers are not the tools needed to do that job effectively.

As for mercy, that can be tended AFTER the life and death struggle, not during it. Whether the man is a mental defective or not is immaterial in my estimation. Stopping him without injury to anyone else should be the prime concern here, not this individuals mental state.

You've got that right. A person with an edged weapon can close in on one very quickly. Quick and sure action must be taken to come out on top.

Can you believe there are Americans who care what the brits think about anything ?
Can you believe that there are any Brits who will take notice of what Americans think about guns? :Roflmao
When the police ask for firearms it will be considered; not before. I sincerely hope it never is.

Here is some of the conversation that was secretly recorded.

Officer #1: "He's got a knife, what should we do"?
Officer #2: "I don't know mate, I'm pretty scared right now"
Officer #3: "Should we use the taser on him?"
Officer #4: "No, that might make him mad".
Officer #5: "If we stand here long enough, maybe he will just drop the knife and go away".
Officer #6: "Has anyone called the Firearms Unit yet"?
Officer #7 : "I don't think so, should we really bother them right now"?
Officer #9: "Watch it Nigel, he's coming towards you".
Officer #10: "Please don't hurt me sir".
Officer #11: "Where is the Firearms Unit, has anyone called them yet"?

Well. it sure beats,
Officer #1: "Do you think he's got a gun?"
Officer #2: "I don't know, but let's shoot him anyway to be on the safe side."

This is how it happens in America. The cop tells the perp with the knife to drop it, the perp does not drop the knife but raises it and moves towards the cop. The cop shoots the perp, the perp drops to the ground and the incident is over. According to established procedure and the law, this shooting is completely justified - and rightfully so.

His mental state should be "dead."

....it's little wonder why we beat you in two wars and had to bail you out of two others....
Yeah, well, you guys just waited to see who was winning and then joined in on our side. :Tongue

The great thing about Biblical Christianity is that people often get better than they deserve.
I am really proud of those 11 police officers. How easy to call in an armed team and have the guy put down like a dog. They risked their lives to try and save someone who didn't deserve it, while making sure he didn't escape to do more damage.

Sounds just a little bit Christ-like to me. :)

Right, because having routinely armed police has such great results:

Houston officer kills unarmed man walking with trousers down - US cop kills unarmed man with pants down

Now this case seems to be completely different than when a miscreant lunges at a cop with a knife. On the face of it, this does not seem to be a justifiable shooting and hopefully this officer will have to answer for his actions in a court of law. I still support the arming of all police officers because there are just too many low life individuals out there that the police come into contact with on a routine basis.
