What sense does that make?
If a portion of officers are treating citizens wrong, the answer is not going to be "Let's teach everyone a lesson by taking away all officers so they'll be in danger and unprotected. Then they'll shut up about the wrong and appreciate us."
Wouldn't it be interesting if things ran that way!
Here's are better ideas.
1. Get rid of dirty and/or incompetent officers.
2. Retrain officers to understand the difference between cobat zones and community policing.
3. Teach officers how to de-escalate situations rather than escalate them. (ie do not attempt to police a tall, strong suspect from a seated position in your squad car, realize he's able to overpower you, then get out of your car and chase him down a street to confront him again anyhow, before the back-up you know is coming actually gets there)
4. Train officers to exhaust all possible non-violent solutions before resorting to possibly lethal force.
5. Stop giving officers the legal right to lie to citizens. Lying destroys trust and is dishonorable. How can a community trust their police force if the police believe lying (a sin) to be a needed part of their lives?
6. Remind officers that complete and utter submission to the officer's person is not the goal. The goal is compliance with the law, and LAWFUL orders.
Demilitarizing their attitudes and refocusing on respectfully serving would do wonders for many departments.
It would be much more helpful than forcing people to submit to accepting wrongful detainment, brutality, and death from some officers by making them fear life without any officers.
Find ways to support officers by providing them with the training they need, and ongoing support, so they can gain the respect and trust they deserve.
Those are ALL great ideas .... but the truth of the matter is, our children need to be taught to respect authority, and until that happens there will be killing not only by cops, but by teens on teens and adults on adults.
The truth is, Cain killed Abel and to me it isn't a mystery why killing others has become a way of life for many.
BTW-until the adults elected and sworn to uphold and enforce the laws do it and stop flaunting it ... and living above the law, we can't expect our young folks to do anything different.
Secondly, I blame Obamagration for a few more decades of lawlessness and anarchy, with five to ten million illegals coming to citizenship by way of executive order, all those children and their children will view the law as nothing to worry about.
The cops are not the problem. You can train them until their brains fallout, but their will always be sin that begets evil, and there will be a need to protect the minority of us who still hold our laws in esteem and with respect.
Sorry if this differs from your opinion, but nothing stands between you and I and criminals but the cops. The few bad eggs will eventually tip their hand and face the same justice the bad guys face. IMHO of course!
