About the time I was posting this, it came out that Costco has now reversed the decision, but still ...
A movie based on the book debuted last weekend in theaters nationwide.
Now why would Costco take such a book off the shelves? Reports now indicate they've "changed their minds," but only because of negative publicity about it the last 48 hours -- but mysteriously none from any of the major media outlets, including Fox, National Review and Weekly Standard. Hm.
In the book, D'Souza takes on the undermining of the concept that America is essentially good, at least from the perspective of her motives. He challenges the message that America's history is one of theft and plunder, alleged by the progressives, liberals, and Marxists as being the defining features of American history. He knocks down the straw men of the theft of Native American and Mexican lands and the exploitation of African labor, and moves on to disprove the basis for claims that, prior to Obama's presidency, our foreign policy was based on stealing oil and promoting a capitalist system that robs people of their "fair share."THe Blaze: Costco Is Removing Conservative Author’s Bestselling Book From Its Stores Nationwidehttp://www.theblaze.com/stories/201...bestselling-book-from-its-stores-nationwide/#http://www.theblaze.com/stories/201...bestselling-book-from-its-stores-nationwide/#
Costco Wholesale, the second-largest retailer in the United States, has apparently decided to remove all copies of Dinesh D’Souza’s bestselling book, “America: Imagine a World Without Her,” from its stores nationwide, WND reports. The decision to yank the book, if true, would coincide with the theatrical release of D’Souza’s new film of the same name last week.
Scott Losse, an inventory control specialist in the book department at the Costco Wholesale’s Issaquah, Washington, corporate office, reportedly confirmed that a nationwide “pull-order” was issued for D’Souza’s book. All copies are now reportedly required to be removed by July 15.
Costco has sold about 3,600 copies of “America” nationwide.
D’Souza was apparently unaware of any order to remove his book from Costco shelves, saying, “If true, this would be very odd.”
