Country Flags in profile - new feature

Actually, the Klan's official flags are the U.S.Flag and the Protestant Flag . Their bylaws do not say anything about the display of the Confederate Battle Flag at their meetings or events; but they do have to display those other two at all times! .

The KKK is not a southern institution, as the majority are YANKEES & the largest chapters are in the NORTHERN states! A few Klansmen do choose to fly it as a reminder of their HERITAGE. "No slave ships sailed under the Confederate Flag."

You are obviously much more knowledgeable about the Confederacy, et al, than I am, but my main point is how the flag is perceived, and how it makes many people uncomfortable because of what they perceive it to represent (slavery, racism, lynchings, etc, etc). But I understand that people who fly the flag don't necessarily represent these ugly things (my friend Alan, for example). I also understand the intellectual arguments that the stars and stripes could historically be said to represent the same things.

And, you haven't yet made this point yet, but I also understand that symbols can be misused. The Klan also uses crosses, which is not a symbol meant to advocate racism or lynchings by any stretch of the imagination. I wouldn't argue to stop using the cross because the Klan does, too.

So in summary, I guess I'd agree with you that my arguments for not flying the Confed flag are a little weak, but don't you understand why it would make some people, black people in particular, uncomfortable?

Remember Eric, the US flag flew over a slave nation longer than teh Confederate and I could go into a whole lot of history that folks do not get to hear since the books have always been slanted by the victor and now the revisionist. Traveling through TN, I heard on the radio where a Black legislator refused to say the pledge because the flag was of a slave nation. Shall we give up that flag as well? The KKK also use the US Flag and the Bible. In fact, some years back on the cover of Triad Magazine they pcitured a Klansman standing in front of a US flag, with his Bible and gun in hand. I am a strong right to bear arms man as well and I am not giving uo my gun, Bible or either flag just because a small group of nuts decide to hide behind them and desecrate the memory of valiant men who died for both. The |X|__ is a flag of freedom fighters in the second American Revolution. The only difference between the DAR and the UDC is that the ancestors of the DAR won their fight against tyranny and the UDC ancestors did not.

Ask the Indians how concerned for human rights and liberty the Northern army was? Many Blacks took the train North and came back when they found out that it was not as good as was claimed. Some fought for the South. The Army of the North did not desegrate troops until Truman ordered it in 1948 and yet it took until 1953 before the Army said that 95% of all Blacks were actually in integrated units. In the War of Northern Aggression, Black soldiers served but were usually sent out first as cannon fodder. It was not about slavery. Note that the EP only freed slaves in the South and NJ had a EP policy that kept some Blacks slaves until death. Well nuts, I wasn't going to get started on this and so I will quit while I am just getting started.

One last thought, if you find that making money off of children and women in sweat shops is cheaper than slavery does that make you a human rights proponent or just a "wise" businessman? If you commit genocidal acts against Indians are you true humanitarians or very vengeful and greedy men since the 5 civilized tribes fought for the South and you wanted their land? Northern nobility is definitey lacking and mythical.

BTW, I just came by to see if there was a LONE STAR flag (since the topic said country flags are in the profiles) - guess the webmaster just hasn't gotten around to putting all the countries in yet.

 

someone emailed me for a texas flag but i lost his email address, and despite the pain it caused for me to do a texas flag I do have one, it was emailed to the webmaster,
now im waiting for someone to ask me for a REAL state flag like from NY or NJ

I do undersatnd how some non-US folks would be confused by addtional state flags. I wonder though, if perhaps some of them are more recognizable than others. Certainly, I am in no wise certain of some of the nationality flags that are available.

Also, if someone were to use the dual flags, one of the US, the other being their home state, it might limit some confusion, for those posting 2 flags.

I know for myself, while I am American, I also have a very deep Texan heritage that, if allowed, I would like to express with an avatar. My family has been born and lived in Texas for 9 generations , so it is an identification that is not just a passing whim of fancy but very dear and precious. Still, I will submit to the decisions of the webmaster and moderators who govern such matters. Thanks for letting me throw in 2 more cents on the topic.

NO, the California flag is merely a state flag!

I had the flag there for a while, however on thinking about it: 1, I am not a flag waver. 2, I am only an Australian citizen because I was born here and can't find a better country to move to. And 3, the flag was NEW ZEALAND one, not OZ

Aussies using that flag, count the stars and look at their colours

Looks interesting! The Church that I grew up in had its own flag which to me remains quite special, could that be put in as a request?
