I guess it depends on whether I die during my term life insurance or after. My wife will decide. Ok either way, its only temporary.

Cremation might make for a good symbolic service to reach the lost at my funeral in regards to the flesh and only those things surviving the refining fire lasting, et al. Might have to write my own sermon along with eulogy :)

Besides hoping to be called away (raptured for lack of a better word), I haven't given much thought to what happens to my body when I'm finished with it.

I am not sure what will happen. I made arrangements for my body to be donated to medical science. They can do what they want, it makes no difference to me.

You know, I hadn't thought of that option, but it really is a great idea.

How did you go about making arrangements? What are the mechanics of getting this done? Who needs to know this in advance?

You've stirred my interest on this.

Can you go into detail about how you get this done?

Hi Tom,

My wishes of donating my body to medical science is in my advanced directive.

It was several years ago and I am trying to remember if there was anything else I did ... like sign onto a list. Let me ask my wife and I will add more later if I find any other steps were in involved.

Fortunately, we don't need to be embalmed in NY which cuts the costs of the funeral. I'm fine with a very basic coffin and would rather that the family spend the money for a big party instead of having a fancy box to rot in. :)

I'm not too keen on cremation just because I see in Scripture that God's people were buried and since we have the ability to be buried, I'd rather that happen. I really like the fact that generations from now can see my headstone and know that Grandma/Great Grandma/Great Great Grandma really WAS here. :)

Welcome to BB, I may take you up on that. What is your address?

LOL, w'ere in Virginia now so no dice. But I know a guy whose dad died and they just picked a plot on the ranch and buried him. Some law that you can bury anywhere you want, but once you do so that section become a cemetery.

In Canada, when you donate your body to medical needs, the remains are returned to the family after about 3 years. You can still have a headstone at a local cemetary.

Other than local customs, there is nothing in scripture one way or the other. Keep in mind, the early thinking in the NT was that Jesus was returning in AD 70. Even the disciples who walked with Jesus were astonished when He died and rose again,,,,remember Thomas!

Cremation lacks nothing in the funeral service except the viewing of the corpse....."Oh, how nice he looks!!!!"

If people can't see me in life, I don't want them to view me in death.

Cheers,

Jim

I will be cremated.

My Bride plans on having me in her arms when she is buried.

As for me, unless I get married again, there will be no "next of kin" to claim my body. I assume someone will eventually find my dead body, and your guess is as good as mine as to what happens to it.

Maybe they will give it to a medical college somewhere.

In a Japanese funeral the body is displayed, then after the funeral we all go down to the crematorium, where we wait for the body to be cremated. After that we have a ceremony where the relatives use special chopsticks to pick out the bones and put them in the urn. :saint:
