Illegals commit crimes at double the rate of native-born: Study

The crime rate among illegal immigrants in Arizona is twice that of other residents, Attorney General Jeff Sessions said Friday, citing a new report based on conviction data.

The report, from the Crime Prevention Research Center, used a previously untapped set of data from Arizona that detailed criminal convictions and found that illegal immigrants between 15 and 35 are less than 3 percent of the state’s population, but nearly 8 percent of its prison population.

And the crimes they were convicted of were, on the whole, more serious, said John R. Lott Jr., the report’s author and president of the research center.

His findings also challenge the general narrative that immigrants commit fewer crimes. Those past studies usually don’t look at legal versus illegal populations, Mr. Lott said.

. Lott said the Arizona data is able to peek behind that curtain, and the differences between the populations were stark.

He said the crime rates of the undocumented who were ages 18 to 35 was particularly important, given the ongoing debate over legalizing illegal immigrant “Dreamers.” He said the Arizona data showed that population had crime rates 250 percent higher than their share of the population would have predicted.

this was one of the few studies that distinguished between illegal immigrants and other legal immigrant, such as those under a work permit or a green card.

You can't be surprised, just look at Los Angeles' most wanted list. Study was just isolated to Arizona and didn't include federal crime, so the rates are probably much higher.

Does USA provide any type of social welfare for illegal immigrants?

:Roflmao You're kidding. Right?
I am a foreigner. Australia is half way around world to USA.

If illegal immigrants turn up in USA, don't have relatives etc and run out of funds (no employment), they will either starve or steal.

Not saying that is right of course. They should face USA legal consequences for theft.

Sorry. Had no idea where you were from.

The Cost of Illegal Immigration to US Taxpayers | FAIR

The Cost of Illegal Immigration to the United States

At the federal, state, and local levels, taxpayers shell out approximately $134.9 billion to cover the costs incurred by the presence of more than 12.5 million illegal aliens, and about 4.2 million citizen children of illegal aliens. That amounts to a tax burden of approximately $8,075 per illegal alien family member and a total of $115,894,597,664. The total cost of illegal immigration to U.S. taxpayers is both staggering and crippling. In 2013, FAIR estimated the total cost to be approximately $113 billion. So, in under four years, the cost has risen nearly $3 billion. This is a disturbing and unsustainable trend. The sections below will break down and further explain these numbers at the federal, state, and local levels.

The Cost of Welfare Use By Immigrant and Native Households

In September 2015, the Center for Immigration Studies published a landmark study of immigration and welfare use, showing that 51 percent of immigrant-headed households used at least one federal welfare program — cash, food, housing, or medical care — compared to 30 percent of native households. Following similar methodology, this new study examines the dollar cost of that welfare use.

The average household headed by an immigrant (legal or illegal) costs taxpayers $6,234 in federal welfare benefits, which is 41 percent higher than the $4,431 received by the average native household.
The average immigrant household consumes 33 percent more cash welfare, 57 percent more food assistance, and 44 percent more Medicaid dollars than the average native household. Housing costs are about the same for both groups.

At $8,251, households headed by immigrants from Central America and Mexico have the highest welfare costs of any sending region — 86 percent higher than the costs of native households.
Illegal immigrant households cost an average of $5,692 (driven largely by the presence of U.S.-born children), while legal immigrant households cost $6,378.

The greater consumption of welfare dollars by immigrants can be explained in large part by their lower level of education and larger number of children compared to natives. Over 24 percent of immigrant households are headed by a high school dropout, compared to just 8 percent of native households. In addition, 13 percent of immigrant households have three or more children, vs. just 6 percent of native households.

None of that includes the cost of dealing with the criminal element of the illegal population, which is significant in human terms and dollars.

I suppose most foreigners don't venture to USA political discussions. Either not brave or foolhardy enough....

12.5 million?!!!! That is approximately half Australia's population.

I remember seeing Trump getting condemned for praising our immigrant policy, even making plans to follow our example. White House touts Australia-inspired immigration plan in press conference

Have the Democrats blocked any proposed changes to immigrants policies?

Now above policy has its own issues when put into practice. Several of our capital cities especially have become migrant hotspots, increasing housing unaffordability and straining services.

Are all your illegal immigrants from Mexico and its neighbors?

Oh , there's a couple of Brits here who never tire of telling us how superior the British welfare society is.;)

Historically from Mexico, Nowadays, Central American countries make up a larger percentage of the illegals. Though, other countries are also sources.

On news websites I have seen many Australians and Americans fighting over this topic, whose gun laws are the best for society overall. Would Australia's gun laws help the US?

Both sides are convinced they are right. Other foreigners agree with the correct side of course. :)
But definitely another topic for another day.

The side doesn't really matter. We have a constitutional right to bear arms. Argument finished.

It would be interesting to know what other factors are involved.
Levels of English fluency, cultural background, religion (or lack of it) and so on are major factors here on how well refugees integrate into our society.

Most of this has been analyzed. I believe you can find it on Google or Bing.

Or you can watch the news and see what flags they fly at their protests or gatherings.
