Cringeworthy Posts

From time to time I go back to the archives to double-check or retrieve information that might be helpful for current studies. And I have to admit that some of my own posts from back then are now really embarrassing. Some I see now are quite wrong doctrinally ( of course, many of you would shout an Amen to that!:Biggrin) but what concerns me even more is the attitude with which I responded to those who were merely disagreeing. Ouch! I came on with guns a'blazing.

All of this to give a belated apology for those posts. I hope by God's grace to do better.

I go back to my old posts a lot - not because I think highly of myself - but I may be needing something I said. I've also looked up other people's posts that I remember being useful.

I have seen things I've said that made me roll my eyes to the point of pain.

Oh, if anyone wants to look up your old posts or someone else's old posts here is how you do that:

Let's say I wanted to look up an old post of mine on creation. I would go to Google and type the following:

site:baptistboard.com scarlett o. creation

You can do that with any forum you are active on. It may not show up on the first few pages and use very specific words.

Very handy tip. Thanks!

I find myself to be quite the opposite. The older I get, the less tactful and more abrasive I become. I look back at my life in general and tell myself I can't believe I used to put up with the crap I did.

I'm the same way. For me it is not about an uncaring attitude towards other's feelings but simply not caring about what people think of me.

Strangely, I find both tendencies in me, the one more in the real world and the other behind the keyboard. I guess, being older, you really start seeing through all the crap and superficiality. Online we have more of an opportunity to think before we hit send. My wife has been really helpful here. I often read to her what I am sending to see if what I wrote makes sense. I have learned to appreciate her as a sort of proof reader and cordiality-checker.

Oh yes - and the same goes for other forums once frequented but long since abandoned. Meeting a fresher at college who declared "Oh yes, I've seen your posts on such-and-such forum" put me right off forums for a long time!

Maybe it’s my personality type... I find that I’m unwilling to be controlled, either by others or by circumstances. It’s interesting to learn these things about yourself isn’t it!
