Critics of Bro. Jack Schaap

Iam only going to speak from limited knowledge.
A fellow awhile back gave me some tapes of Dr. Jack. I listened to some of his sermons. While there was biblical truth in what he was saying I wouldn't call it preaching. I would call it more of a verbal beating of his people. In the one sermon in particular he used the analogy of flying a plane. I understand that he is a pilot of sorts. Anyway, by the time that sermon was over I knew alot more about flying a airplane than I did about "what the Bible says". It was like this. "I got a great analogy concerning flying airplanes and the christian life now let me find some scripture to make it go".
I like good, sound, hard preaching etc... I expect to be convicted by the Spirit of God when I come under the preaching of His Word. I do not expect to come away feeling "belittled" or like a
"child" after I come out of church. Nor do I want to be made to feel like "I don't have enough sense to come in out of the rain". In the series of sermons I heard from Dr. Jack that is what caught my attention. HE TALKED TO HIS PEOPLE LIKE THEY STUPID AND THAT THEY WERE BENEATH HIM.

In the series I listened to he referred to the congregation as "you people" over and over again. "I'm sick of you people doing this" I'm sick of you people coming to me with this. ON and on I could go. I'm just saying in my limited experience Dr. Jack came across in a very critical tone towards his flock. I have heard alot of good IFB preaching and good SBC preaching from some wonderful men of God and never have I heard a preacher talk to his people like that. Like they were just dogs. I will not bother to get another series of messages from him again. There is a big difference between leading folk and "driving folk". I say speak the truth in love not speak the truth with malice which is how Dr. Jack came across to me in the sermon series I heard.

Sorry my friend. You don't have a clue about my feelings regarding the Hyles family.

My point is that we need MUCH better documentation than a website before we start questioning the salvation of these men. Everyone has seen the website you refer to. It's evidence is questionable at best.

Although I have never been a supporter of HAC, Dr Hyles, or his son-in-law; I have yet to see hard evidence that these charges are true.

Well said, C4K. I agree completely and couldn't have said it better.

Having said that, MatthewHenry, the issue of this thread is not Jack H. but Jack S. And the only thing people seem to have on Jack S. is that he hasn't publicly denounced Jack H., his father-in-law.

No one has the right to say whether a man is saved or not save God himself. I do believe that Jack Hyles was saved, and that Jack Schaap is saved. I do believe that Jack Hyles got off track. I also believe that Jack Schaap still has not addressed the issues from the past at FBCH which need to be addressed. Because Schaap was a part of the old administration and continued to support it, I find little credibility in him in the statement that he "confronted" Jack Hyles. He may have ASKED him, but that would have been as far as it would have gone. Though I believe people still get saved and serve the Lord faithfully and willfully at HAC/FBCH, I don't believe Bro Schaap. From listening to him online and tape, I've noticed the same arrogance that his father in law displayed. I'm just waiting for the puffed up stories about soulwinning results to continue to inflate themselves beyond those of Jack Hyles himself. The problem is still in Hammond, folks, though "Preacher" may be dead and gone.

We are all talking as though we have the right to judge the motives of the pastor of a local church. Certainly the congregation at FBC have thought through these issues and have decided either to stay and work through it or leave. We really should be careful that we do not stir up the water and muddy the testimony of a sister church. I too have no allegiance one way or another, but, do want to be careful not become a pharissee myself.
