    It wouldn't have been surprising if he'd been killed by a snake or a croc, but to be brought down by a usually non-lethal animal, is surprising.

    Non-lethal?

    Non-lethal is that what you call a stingray strike?

    I would be surprised if any medical professional classified a stingray strike as non-lethal.

    And I would be extremely surprised by anyone that survived a stingray strike without medical attention . . .

    Surprised that you thought they were cuddly and safe?

    Actually? Yes . . .

    As there have only been two Aussies in the last century to die from stingray injuries, I would say they're not considered a lethal threat in most situations. Their poison is not as toxic as many other marine animals' venom; however, a direct injection of venom into the heart muscle likely caused Irwin's cardiac arrest.

    He got caught at exactly the wrong spot from a very large ray.

    Some quick stats:

    As everyone has pointed out, ray deaths very rare by comparison.

    Anywhere, anytime, anyone could meet their Maker. Make sure you know Him before that meeting...
