"Jesus didn't come to make America great. He didn't come to stop abortions, preserve traditional marriage, feed the poor or reform immigration. Jesus didn't come to teach the world morality. Jesus didn't come to heal cancer, fix marriages, corral kids or pay bills. Jesus didn't come to make you successful, reinvigorate your sex life, make you happy or give you your best life now. It's not that Jesus doesn't care about those things, but they aren't the point of His coming. His mission was only to remove the stain of sin from our lives and from the universe with His blood. Everything else falls into line behind that. His will for everything else about our life flows downhill in a crimson stream from Calvary.
"And if your belief is based on anything else, based on anything other than His singular mission to take away the sin that has separated you and I from God, then Jesus finds
you unbelievable. That was His job. That's why He was here. I cannot begin to emphasize how important this is. I'm afraid that so much of our belief in Jesus is predicated on the agenda that we give to Him, or the need we want Him to address. It's not a belief that is hostile to Jesus, or even a belief -- please listen to me -- even a belief that is incorrect.
"I believe Jesus
does want to address the horrors of abortion. I believe Jesus does want to have His people advocate for the poor. It's not that the belief is incorrect. It's just that it is incomplete. Until your belief is rooted in the fact that the number one problem with you in the world is sin, and that Jesus came to take care of that, Jesus doesn't believe your belief."
