I love to watch NFL football, to see athletes run, jump and man-handle other athletes is entertaining. Back when "the greatest" fought, I enjoyed watching boxing. And before that, car racing such as the 500.

But as I age, I remember the sports writers opening, "Gentlemen, start your coffins." The goal of boxing is to "knock out" the other guy by causing brain damage.

Will it ever become unfashionable to watch others risk their well being for money? Our love for our fellow humans has pushed me away from complete enjoyment.

I have worked with former VT players and it is almost as if nobody cares for them after their time in sports.

His agent has stated that Hamlin has been awake and holding hands with family. I've also heard, on network news, that neurologic tests have shown basically no degradation, and that he's recovering from lung damage.

His ability to talk may have begun today, after the tube was removed from his throat, and he talked to his teammates by video. I think yesterday's "Who won?" was done through writing.

24-year-old Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin made his first public comments Saturday since suffering an on-field cardiac arrest during a football game Monday night against the Cincinnati Bengals. Hamlin tweeted that "the love is felt, & extremely real," while expressing gratitude for the widespread support he has received during his hospitalization and recovery.

"Putting love into the world comes back 3xs as much...thankful for everyone who has reached out and prayed. This will make me stronger on the road to recovery, keep praying for me!" Hamlin tweeted. The charity is now nearing 8.5 million dollars...
