Words change. My position changed on the issue a little after I read some books.
No, words don't change. What changed was not your belief about drinking but your justification to satisfy what you have told us was an addictive temptation. You do know this is how sin is defined....right?

You are a reed in the wind, seeking to justify your desires. You did this with drinking. You did this with being a role model for your family. You did this with submitting to church leadership. You do this with discipleship. You did this with justifying abandoning your wife when she was diagnosed with cancer. You do this with justifying divorce. You are doing this to advocate adultery. And you are doing this with charismatic theology. Let's stop pretending.

I did not abandon my wife when she was diagnosed with cancer! She was diagnosed with cancer after I filed for divorce.

I know that you abandoned her just before she was diagnosed and that her cancer was not the reason you filed for divorce. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

His knowledge of Lordship Theology is from books. I understand why he holds one thing yet lives another, but I also get the irony.

Have not heard back yet, but if I hear bad news I will change my mission to evangelism.
I also have no issue with Piper's "charismatic tendencies". One of my favorite authors is Gordon Fee, who is Pentecostal. I just think that you need to be cautious because I know how important Reformed theology (as expressed by those like John MacArthur) is to you. At some point something will have to give.

There is a bible verse that says "Why do you look for the speck of sawdust in your brothers eye, but pay no attention the plank in your own eye." Jon C you have a plank in your eye!

Just checked out the website of a former church of her's. They affirm the essentials of the faith and are not charismatic. No women pastors. They may be a little seeker friendly but that is an entirely different deal than a church that has women pastors, is into the WOF movement, etc...

Then help me with the plank and I will help you with the splinters (I think you miss the meaning of the verse)

Here are some issues I see in myself (feel free to add):

I struggle with arrogance and the older I get the less patience I have. I've grown to appreciate a bluntness that can also be taken offensively by those who prefer candy over meat (<= see what I mean :D). I struggle with lust, and I become hesitant when it comes to stepping out in faith when it comes to finances. I am not the spiritual leader that I want to be, although I do strive to lead by example.

Here are some issues I see with you:

You have a legalistic approach to Scripture when it suits you. When it does not suit you then you take a very liberal path. You have rejected many passages by taking the liberal stance( passages about leading your family, divorce, Christian liberty, sacrificing for the conscience of others, ect),. You have broken your vows to your wife, and to God. You are a covenant breaker. You ignore Scripture and search out books that justify your fleshly desire. You are a reed in the wind.

"Just met this gal." "Speaking with another."

Over the internet? Or actual physical meeting/speaking? Or at least video chat?

Evangelist,
I am not one of those who believes that divorce is the second unforgivable sin. However, you ought to know how your wife is. You have shared her life and her bed, and you should be concerned for her welfare. Her church will be able to tell you how she is.
If she flatly refuses to be reconciled, then it may be better for you to re-marry than fall into sexual sin of other sorts (adultery, prostututes, internet porn etc.). However, you need to understand how God hates divorce and to be a little more convicted of your sin than you appear to be. You write about using the law to convict people of sin; if you are not so convicted, why do you expect others to be?

If you do not like receiving this kind of post, you will be well advised not to publish details of your private life on the internet. Also, please be assured that I prayed for you before posting this.

No, not "nevermind" (it's one word).

We are talking about the Word of God....it's not such a trivial matter. This thread has introduced (re-introduced) several issues which need to be evaluated by Scripture. I try to do that. You know that I do not hold to liberal theology and that I take Scripture as being prescriptive. I am one who thinks that when we believe in Jesus we do so as Lord and Savior, so I believe that we are to be obedient to Scripture. You, at one time, believed that way but now you are on the cusps of divergent (in practice you have already abandoned the theology you think you hold, you just have not come to that realization).

Brennan Manning was right when he said “The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today is Christians: who acknowledge Jesus with their lips, walk out the door, and deny Him by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable.”

And now you are saying that my words indicate a "plank" that needs to be addressed. Well? Address it. I need to know.

Prediction: Any encouragement to follow Scripture or to use common sense will be rebuffed with insults and self-pity.

Guys, Evan will do what he wants regardless of advice.
