Anybody watch the debate between DT and Biden?

Did it change your mind?

Were you surprise by either man?

Who won?

Will it make an impact on the election?

I watched a bit... it was hard to watch.

The sound bites from each candidate were unremarkable, predictable.

But it was embarrassing to see President Biden so feeble.

Yeah, it was hard to watch at times.

1. DT ignored the insults for the most part, kept his demeanor presidential.

2. Biden was feeble, confused at times, angry at times, completely un-understandable at times.

3. DT answered almost all questions by referencing the border, crime or inflation.

4. The traditional news outlets were in shock and mourning afterward

peace to you

I watched about 45 minutes of it. Basically it was what I expected. But, having said that, I feel Donald Trump could have done better.

A comparison to sports explains what I am trying to say best. In track, cycling, and other racing sports, a contestant will often do good enough to stay out front. In my opinion, Donald Trump was so far ahead, he was not performing anywhere near the level that the American People deserved. Thus, he barely even tried to present and endorse his policies.

I did not watch it. I have read and heard lots of commentary about it last night and today. It's a real shame that the Republicans and Democrats are running these two candidates as their choices for president. This rule by gerontocracy in the United States desperately needs to come to an end.

Gerontocracy? Rule by the Oldest?

Much rather have experience folks than young, inexperienced folks

Yeah, but 80 year olds, 90 year olds? The United States desperately needs to stop this "stay in office until you die" spree it has fallen into in recent years.

Yes.

Did it change your mind?
No.

Were you surprise by either man?
Trump's ability to lie as if it was the most natural thing in the world is always startling to me. Using that as a propaganda technique ("flood the zone with [manure]" as Steve Bannon would say) is very effective since those who are tethered to truth are at a massive disadvantage in that type of format.

Since the "moderators" didn't moderate (they simply read questions and kept time), there was no pushback against either candidate for when they misstated facts. It is nearly a hopeless task fact-checking Trump live, but they should have made an effort. And they should have called out Biden on at least two occasions when he misstated some things about Trump. But CNN abrogated their responsibilities as journalists, and we are all poorer for it.

I was also surprised that Biden got caught trying to answer Trump's lies point-by-point (an impossible task within the format) and allowed himself to get flustered and on the defensive. Biden's cold and stuttering got the better of him. He has never been a great communicator, but he was particularly bad last night.

No one. Biden looked frail and Trump demonstrated he was completely shameless with his blatant and obvious lies. He has a very low view of the public.

Will it make an impact on the election?
I doubt it. Current Trump supporters are either okay with his lies or they don't realize he is lying and are not interested in fact-checking him. Biden supporters are not going to vote for Trump since they know what is in Project 2025. The undecided voters (a relatively small number of people) will likely know enough about Trump to know he is boldly lying to them and will chose the frail-looking man who has a good team of people around him to govern.

Trump is a convicted felon 34 times over and owes hundreds of millions of dollars in damages and fines. If Republicans make him their candidate, they will likely lose.

Of course, I can be wrong, and it's a long way to the election.

I heard Biden is claiming his debate performance has swung independent voters into supporting him.

Is that just spin, or is someone telling him that?

that's what the left always does, tries to play offense. They won't and can't defend Biden's performance, so they'll parrot Jill Biden's "Trump lied!".

(sigh) I have watched Biden in several debates and he used to be excellent at it. What we saw the other night was his last debate. I have to wonder if it was a DNC set-up, there's no reason on earth to have a debate in June when you really don't have an official nominee. Bet he withdraws before the end of next month - they'll threaten him with the 25th if he doesn't bow out.

I really hope I'm wrong, Biden would cause the Ds to be massacred if he remains on the ticket. I'm looking at Newsom, that weirdo lady governor of Michigan, that other governor of Maryland AND Hillary to fill Biden's slot. Not Mrs. Obama, she supposedly hates DC and likes to travel. Any of them could beat Trump but not Joe.

Judge Merchandise may sentence the convicted felon to prison the week after next, another lefty mistake, and tomorrow, they're going to be up in arms over the SCOTUS immunity ruling.

Both candidates convinced me that they were correct.

Trump avoided answering the actual questions and instead offered a monologue that convinced me that Biden was an unacceptable candidate for President.

Biden avoided answering the actual questions and instead offered a monologue that convinced me that Trump was an unacceptable candidate for President.

Given the reality that we now have convincing evidence that this little experiment in democracy has failed (yielding us not one but two TRUMP-BIDEN elections), I have started to advise a resurrection of the Bull Moose Party (Teddy Roosevelt) with Meghan Markle (Duchess of Sussex) for President. Once elected, we can call for a “Constitutional Convention” and restore a Divine Right Monarchy under Harry and Meghan. (It seems a shame not to take advantage of two surplus Nobles living right here in the USA.) Since England has thrown them away, we might as well put them to good use. Can they do worse than the current government?

As an added bonus, Harry is more popular in Canada than Charles, and most Canadians are not in love with their current government either. We may be able to restore what the French-Indian war ripped apart and reunite most of North America under a single Monarchy [A king just coincidentally being God’s preferred form of government in the Bible].

Think about it … no more holding your nose to vote for the lesser evil lying Democrat or lying Republican every two or four years (Congress / President).

David "Sacks said Biden's performance exposed that the Democratic Party has been supporting Biden as a figurehead to deflect attention from party members' goals of using political clout to funnel power and money to allies."

"The Democratic Party is a collection of interests who want to remain in power. The Democratic Party is the party of government," [David] Sacks said. "Its goal is to allocate money and power from the government to the collection of interests who back the Democratic Party. In other words, it's basically a collection of interests who want to loot the Republic."

I would like to restore the original Constitution of the United States of 1781 - the Articles of Confederation. It had an emaciated federal government and chief executive. It would make federal elections a whole lot less important than they currently are.

Yeah, objective reality should count for something, but to MAGA it doesn't.

Okay, let's see if your prediction comes true. There is no indication it will.

I really hope I'm wrong, Biden would cause the Ds to be massacred if he remains on the ticket.
The Democrats won't be "massacred" due to a lack of people voting for them.

I'm looking at Newsom, that weirdo lady governor of Michigan, that other governor of Maryland AND Hillary to fill Biden's slot. Not Mrs. Obama, she supposedly hates DC and likes to travel. Any of them could beat Trump but not Joe.
Any of them could beat Trump, including Biden. He soundly beat Trump in 2020. Remember, Trump has never won the raw vote and he has NEVER accepted the results of an election -- including 2016.

Judge Merchandise...
Judge Mechan. But I think you know that.

...may sentence the convicted felon to prison the week after next...
According to the law, Trump could go to prison. I don't necessarily expect that, but Trump has shown no remorse, nor any respect for the judicial system at any level, so that makes it tough to predict.

...another lefty mistake...
Enforcement of the rule of law is a "lefty mistake?" Got it.

and ... they're going to be up in arms over the SCOTUS immunity ruling.
The MAGA folks can't seem to process that if Presidents get the "total immunity" that Trump demands from the Supreme Court, that Biden gets it immediately and Trump will only get it retroactively and IF he manages to become President again. And if Biden gets total immunity (that is, the President cannot be prosecuted for anything he/she does in office unless they are impeached by Congress AND convicted by the Senate), then -- as Trump's attorney argued before the Supreme Court -- a President can have his/her political opponents executed at any time without being held criminally liable, as long as they are not convicted by the Senate. In other words, Biden could have Trump executed before the end of the day, as well as all members of Congress who have expressed any loyalty to Trump. Good luck getting articles of impeachment voted upon when nearly half of both chambers of Congress are dead and an assassin team is ready to take out anyone who opposes the President...

For MAGAs to support that sort of thing is mind-numbingly stupid. Now Biden is not going to do something like that since he is fundamentally a decent man. But Trump is always shrieking about treason, disloyalty, and how certain people should be locked up and/or executed. MAGA folk seem to love that.

Of course, that just points out that MAGA is a personality cult that elevates one person above the law, Christian principles, and basic reason.

The Articles of Confederation were spectacularly ineffective. The South during the Civil War had an opportunity to try that again with their own government and it also failed to effectively govern.

Is that just spin, or is someone telling him that?
It is spin, but he is probably also hearing that Trump polled worse than he did among independents among early polls. Those who are not MAGA are quite familiar with Trumps lies over the years and he tripled down on the dishonesty. That only hardens independents against him because it shows he has learned nothing since 2020 and also thinks that voters are fools.
