I can see it now 2,000 years from now they will find a new world translation in the garbage bin of an ancient headquarters of the watchtower society and they'll publish a new Critical text based on the readings from the New World Translation, and then everyone will become Mormons because they'll realize that Jesus Christ is just a god and not The God..../End Sarcasm

That would be Jehovah's Witnesses, not Mormons.

Mormons believe that men can become Gods and believe in many Gods, the NWT of John 1:1 being the word was a god would support Mormon Doctrine.

I am well aware of both JW and Mormon beliefs/doctrine. I made the statement purposely.

It was a good debate, but the burden of proof was on Pinto. He came across as very sincere, and his theory could be true, but he did not prove that in this debate.

This debate did not help the credibility of the Sinaiticus however, it sounds like a real mess.

ANyway we look at it we have an embarassment of riches concerning manuscripts of the Holy Bible, as Dan Wallace has said.

Is it not amazing how God has preserved His Word inspite all the failures of man to get it right. Man can't get it right without the Holy Spirit leading in all truth. If one stays out of the footnotes and commentaries, much confusion is avoided.

Want to get more involved in spreading The Word? There is an urgent need for copies of the OT/NT in the native languages in places like India and Ghana--actually worldwide including right here in River City. Let us get a Bible to anyone who wants one. Contact undersigned on a PM.

Even so, come ,Lord Jesus.

Footnotes are exceedingly helpful. The KJV revisors used them extensively.

Commentaries are usually stand-alone books to aid us in understanding Scripture. You don't use commentaries?!

I use: an analytical English concordance, an analytical Greek-English lexicon, an analytical Greek lexicon and occasionally a book called Word Studies in The NT, by Vincent. I have read after A.W. Pink, also Tom Ross. No complete Bible commentaries are in my limited library. I do have many translations of the Scripture.

Scripture interpretes scripture with the Holy Spirit bearing witness. God does not author confusion.

Peace,

Bro. James

Well commentaries aren't bad but we should use them correctly. Scripture will always trump a commentary that is obviuos. We are all standing upon the shoulders of the men before us. I love John MacArthurs commentaries on the NT. I use a Systematic Theology, several commentaries and dictionaries when I teach and I'm thankful for them all. Discernment is the key, and yes scripture interprets scripture and most of the aids I use depend heavily upon that.

That's one way of preserving Scripture --keeping it out of the sunlight.

I guess most people do keep what they consider to be their good bibles hidden away and not in use.. why in the world would someone want a good accurate bible to see any use is beyond me...
The Catholics have the right idea, Keep your bibles on the top shelf of the closet and let it collect dust... we aren't suppose to read the scriptures anyway... /Sarcasm.
