Degrees of Reward in Heaven and Degrees of Punishment in Hell

Thank you Webdog for posting that scripture reference. Yes I did imply that people knew it which was an assumption on my part. However when I preached the message it was to unbelievers. Dealing with fellow believers most of whom are not Calvinist I should have better explained myself. But it's a relationship with Christ that saves and not a system that one follows. Hyper Calvinism can be more dangerous than Semi Pelegainism. Anyways to the topic.

Such a view of degrees of reward in Heaven may strike at the Lordship salvation argument. I read a book talking about this and about others that may be more in the flesh and not looking as bright in The Lord may be truly saved just will not have all the rewards while Lordship salvation assumes then to be false. I lean towards LS but I won't be dogmatic and say that Calvinism is 100% correct in all areas because it may not be. Free Grace Soteriology may indeed be More biblical than LS.

Regarding degrees of punishment well WebDog posted a good reference that makes this doctrine obvious

There can be little doubt to objective Bible Student that there will be degrees of rewards in heaven and degrees of punishment in hell as the basis for both is "according" ones works (1 Cor. 3:12-15; Lk. 12:48).

I wrote this on the other thread, yet no one got a chance to answer, as Dr. Bob closed the thread.

As an offshoot of this topic, though something I think pertinent to our discussion, do you believe people will be more or less emotionally autonomous in Heaven?

I ask this because people have a tendency to see someone with more than they have, and they get jealous. If we retain that emotional nature in Heaven, then you have the potential for envy and jealousy in the Heavenly realm. If not, then we're talking about God stripping away emotion, basically rendering us as not much more than puppets or robots.

So according to Luke 12:48 a person would be better off if he were born and raised and lived and died in some remote corner of the earth where Christ and the gospel is never mentioned than to live in America where the gospel is preached continually ??? What would be the use of missionary evangelism ? Why not leave them alone to go to hell if they will just be beaten with a few stripes.

The answer is that sin does not enter heaven as heaven is a "no sin zone" and thus is sinless. In contrast, envy and jealously are fruits of the fallen fleshly nature. Instead, a sinless nature rejoices in any advantages others may have or achieve as this is the mind of Christ:

Philip. 2:3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.
4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.
5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

Yes exactly. It is hard to type much on a phone so I have to get to my Mac for a more in depth reply. I imagine that in Heaven we will be grateful that someone else got more rewards and live in a mansion and we will be content living in a small shack if we get few rewards.

Another question is what will our houses in heaven be filled with? I am sure that books will be in Heaven and we will continue to learn. Some of us love to study more and we will have more books,

Yes indeed they would be better off, but God calls all men to repentance. Read the end of Luke and the call to missionary work. Many that continually suppress the truth (Rm 1) will have a more serious hell than those that have not. In America many have rejected my preaching and gospel tracts and have gone after their own lusts and suppressed their conscience. They know of the moral law and choose to ignore it. They know of Hell but choose to ignore it or want to go there to have a party. Satan has indeed blinded the minds of many.

I don't think we will read in order to learn in heaven. The soulish body obtained knowledge through intellectual action between the soul and outward experiences and books. However, the resurrected body is "spirit" directed and the spirit is the area where direct knowledge, intuitive knowledge occurs directly from God. I think, and I stress "think" that our individual capacities are determined by our faithfulness here and now, and so some will have more capacity for learning than others. One thing is for certain, no redeemed human will be omniscient.

So we will not study the Bible in Heaven?

Eternal Life is the Gift of God towards all of the saved in Christ, but how we choose to live our lives doe sindeed count and will be judged!

Judged not as unto salvation, but as unto what degrees of rewards to carry into eternity with...

To me, the more faithful one lived here, the more God will entrust him with to do there!

Exactly! It is not merely a matter of greater privileges there, but greater capacities, and greater positions of authority as well.

And what verse supports this assertion :BangHead: :BangHead:

I was asking about saying we would have books. That's a pretty bold statement with not Biblical support.

Yeah, I think he was just trying to figure out the learning process in heaven. If there is a heavenly Publishing Company, I might be able to apply because I have owned and operated print shops for over 15 years.:tongue3:

Just to throw out a colloquialism -- and I wish I could remember who said this and when: "I'd rather be sent to the basement in Heaven, than the penthouse in Hell."

I get your point, but since all children are going to heaven anyway, why settle for the basement?
