Dem senator: Right to keep and bear arms is 'not a god-given right'

During a May appearance on Rachel Maddow Lean Forward Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) said gun rights are not "God-given" and any claim that the Founding Fathers wanted U.S. citizens armed so they could repel a tyranny "is insane."
Murphy said, "The Second Amendment is not an absolute right, not a God-given right. It has always had conditions upon it like the First Amendment has."
This is disturbing language from a sitting Senator, especially when you consider that the First Amendment opens with the phrase "Congress shall make no law" and the Second Amendment states that the right to keep and bear arms "shall not be infringed."

Of course the Marxist agenda cannot move forward so long as people can stand up to their government.

Well, I would agree that we were not “endowed by our Creator” with the right to keep and bear arms. I may even question the unalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness (in secular terms) as being “God given.” But I plan on keeping my guns.

Seems to me Rev. it has come to be a constitutional right ... not a right from God ... unless you believe the Constitution is from God.

He is correct that it is not a God-given right, but it is a constitutional right. He is incorrect stating it was not given to fight off tyranny. The problem is that the gun rights people have sold their own souls by agreeing (selling others souls, rights) that certain people cannot bear arms or that certain types of arms cannot be owned. Once you give up any part of a freedom or right for so called safety you are open for greater erosion of the whole.

If you study early America there was no such limitations under the right to bear arms if you were a citizen. If you could afford the newest and biggest weapon made, even a cannon, you could own it and even if you had an arrest and conviction record you could still bear arms. Today because the conservative gun lobby has given away other's rights they now face the possibility of losing their rights.

So the statement that the right to keep and bear arms "shall not be infringed on has already been infringed on and once a president has been set it is nearly impossible to undo it. The blame lies with the so called conservatives as well as the liberals. The only difference is the conservatives will agree to someone else to losing their second amendment right as long as it does not touch them while the liberal is willing to take away others rights as they surrender their own. The problem is that in the end when you surrender another's right you open the door for yours to also be taken and this is what we are seeing.

You need to actually take time to read it at least once in your life. Had you already done that you would not have made such a foolish statement.

You need to actually take time to read, I was agreeing. Perhaps my reply was too subtle.

I think keeping and bearing arms is a God-given right. Nobody else gave me the arms I was born with and nobody has the right to chop them off. And, like the rest of me, they came out bare.
