Speaking before the Planned Parenthood Public Affairs Action Fund (PPPAAF) annual conference, leading Democrat contenders Senators Hillary Clinton of New York, Barack Obama of Illinois, and wife of presidential candidate John Edwards showed their determination to promote abortion through their comments on public policy and choices of Supreme Court Justice nominees.

This issue alone would stop me voting for any of these people.



There are so many terrible statements in this article, but I'll pick on one of Obama's:


Regarding the issue of contraception, he is quoted in the Washington Post as saying, "We must never be willing to consign a teenage girl to suffer because she [lacks] birth control."

Sadly, in many cases it is not birth control that is lacking but self-control.

The main reason I would not vote for any of them is because I am English and do not vote in the USA. :) :wavey:

I am not minimalising the death of anyone but if it is choosing between millions of innocent children every year or the thousands we see in fields of war, which may or may not be justified, then I would choose Iran.

But we all know the choice is not abortion or Iran...

If you are not legal to vote in the US, then you can qualify to vote in many districts controlled by democrats in the US!:laugh:

I'm sure you know it's hyperbole. :)

However, none of the Democratic candidates realizes the gravity of the horrendous scourge of abortion. If they did, they'd be pro-life.

Sadly, it does not come up as often as it should. But, I think it is a growing issue. Recently in parliament a bill was brought forward to put stricter regulations on abortion. So there are those in government against it. But I cannot think of any politicians who are 100% for or against, the issue just seems to go under the radar.

As I said, that seems to be changing somewhat. Interestingly, it is some secular groups and columnists that are giving the most effective and convincing arguments.

There is not a large base of conservative Christianity here to push such issues, which may be one reason. Ulsterman might be able to shed more light on this.

I think the laws are still very strict in the Republic of Ireland, C4K would know. In fact, I think, due to the influence of the Catholic church, it is illegal in most cases.

While religious issues such as abortion come up in U.S. political campaigns, I'm not sure how much they really mean. I think more often than not politicians see them as a mean to rally religious voters more than having a true belief in it themselves.

Although religious voters rallied are a real force.

I'll phrase this questions in perhaps an unfair way, here goes,

1. What items are more important than the murder of millions of innocents?

2. How high on your list does the murder of millions of innocents come?

3. Does the importance on someone's list of the murder of millions of innocents amount to a kind of tolerance?

Please note in the final question I am not accusing you of anything, but it seems if something is considered "relatively" unimportant then there is a level of tolerance and acceptance there.
