Dental exam required

My son to start school in Georgia had to have a dental exam. Isn't it sad that the government has to force some parents to take thier kids to the dentist?

Knowing New York, children of illegals will get a "free pass" on this one.

Yet another step in the nanny state.

Should they be checked? Of course.
Does the gubmint have the right to force it? Well...they shouldn't, but looks like they will.

Of course...there will end up being an "out clause" for poor families. (there has to be, if you're gonna require it). This will cost even more.

I like how the numskull says, "Oh, this won't be much work at all for the school system." Yeah, right. THey'll end up spending $50 million on an entire department to oversee it. Gotta spend all those education $$'s so you can ask for more.

(OK, I forgot to take my cynicism meds this morning)

While I disagree with yet another government intrusion, I have seen so many children with rotten or missing teeth it's shameful. However, I think teachers or healthcare workers or concerned neighbors should report it to CPS as child neglect instead of the gov't forcing everyone to bring documentation of dental visits. Why punish everyone over a handful of bad eggs? What's next, documentation of eye exams for youngsters or pap smears for high schoolers? Good grief!

How're they going to make parents pay for the dentist visit? This is not like vacinations where one can go down to the health department and get the kids vacinated for very little charge (or none at all). Yeah, I wanna see this work.

Here's another question: If children are gaurenteed a free and appropriate education (and they are) how free is it if the parents must expend many dollars before a child can be enrolled? Hmmm, federal civil rights lawsuit anyone?

Actually, right here in my town the elementary school kids can have their dental work done at the school courtesy of our tax dollars. A mom was just telling me how wonderful it was, that they didn't have to pay to take their kids to the dentist. I didn't know anything about it until she mentioned it!:BangHead:

Of course there is another advantage - you dont have to take kids out of school to go to the dentist.

I would like to shadow you for 30 days. At the end of the month, I would prepare a list :type: of things you are deficient in and then have the government pass a law :eek: that would require you to take certain actions to insure you have a better life (at least from MY POINT OF VIEW :D ).

Yeah, but I guess I'm from the old school. I think it's the parent's job to rear their kids, not the school system.

No just kept out of kindergarten!!!
ABCGrad... my oldest son went to Kindergarten at your local elementary School... and I got the maddest I have ever been when the principal came out at a welcoming assembly and said, "I want to thank you for giving us your children"....

I came home fuming!!!

Educators, and Politicians think they own our children.

God gave them to us to raise... TO US AS PARENTS!!!

Not the democrats that support this type of social medicine.

Parents who can't afford dental care generally can't afford to homeschool.

Not everyone is blessed with loving parents.

Wait..I forgot...the Christian thing is to just let the free market handle it, right?

There's no need for any type of examination for children to attend school. American's are supposed to be free. That means the parents need to take responsibility for their own children not the government or state.

Any law like this needs to be repealed and any new bill like this needs to be DOA.

What is the cost to homeschool?
We homeschool one of ours, and while we buy Christian curriculum, if we couldn't afford it, the school system in WV has to let us use the books they would use in their classes.
