Department Of Justice Now Pushing Back Against Comey Claims

The Department of Justice has issued a statement in which they are disputing certain aspects of Comey's testimony in front of the Senate Intelligence Committee.

In one case, the DOJ is disputing Comey's claim that he had never received any notification regarding the parameters of Attorney General Jeff Sessions' recusal from the Russia investigation.

"In his testimony, Mr. Comey stated that he was 'not *** aware of' 'any kind of memorandum issued from the Attorney General or the Department of Justice to the FBI outlining the parameters of [the Attorney General’s] recusal,'" the DOJ Statement reads. "However, on March 2, 2017, the Attorney General’s Chief of Staff sent the attached email specifically informing Mr. Comey and other relevant Department officials of the recusal and its parameters, and advising that each of them instruct their staff 'not to brief the Attorney General *** about, or otherwise involve the Attorney General *** in, any such matters described.'"

In addition, the Department of Justice acknowledged that a story published shortly after Comey's firing which claimed the former FBI Director had requested additional resources for the Russia probe was, in fact, false.

"Despite previous inaccurate media reports, Mr. Comey did not say that he ever asked anyone at the Department of Justice for more resources related to this investigation," the statement reads.

Kudos to posting an article that puts primary source material on it.

I don't see comey forgetting this email as significant to his testimony but the correction is duly noted.

All this shows that Comey was a dangerous man and President Trump was correct in firing him and he far exceeded the legal powers that were his purview to exercise. Good riddance!

He has aspirations of becoming J Edgar Hoover. He acts more like a former KGB official that he so deeply detests.

Just like his memory about the email "matter", CNN and NYT reports that you and Rev brought to our attention so dutifully. Should you be giving so much credence to someone's memory you don't trust? Or only when it is convenient.

Comey is an upstanding straight shooter if it serves Mitch and Carpro. He is Hitler the rest of the time. It's quite hilarious.

Evidently you have trouble understanding the intricacies af sarcasm.

But , then maybe I'm wrong and you're being facetious. :)

His comment remains relevant with your sarcasm in place. Which of course you very well know.

Really Comey brought this on himself. As he leaked stuff to the media. Just to get a special counsel.

Dangerous to who?

To the rule of law and the nation at large. We cannot have one man whose job is that of an investigator usurping other legal powers that are not his. He works for the leaders of the Justice Department, they make the executive decisions, not the FBI director.

From deciding whether or not to indict Hillary Clinton to him wanting to change the investigation on the Trump matter from a security investigation to a criminal one by agitation for a "Special Counsel" through his leaking of his supposed memo, these decisions were not his to make. Comey is not the Grand Poobah of Justice decision making in our country.

His only saving grace is that he has actually admitted to these things.

When the documents given were his own personal documents to do as he pleases, it is not a leak. If you give your diary to the newspapers to publish, people do not describe that as a leak.

The president had conversations with him in private but not classified settings. Comey wrote down his memories of those conversations in a non classified manner. Those documents were his personal diary of those events and he was free to share them with whoever he wanted to, especially after he became a private citizen.

I guess you could say it is impolite to share private conversations to the media without the other party's consent.

I have a feeling Trump will be requesting a lot more of his conversations with people be classified from now on as there are going to be a lot more folks documenting their conversations with Trump and his proxies.

White House: Trump will not assert executive privilege to block Comey's testimony

“The president's power to exert executive privilege is very well established,” Sanders said at Monday’s White House press briefing. “However, in order to facilitate a swift and thorough examination of the facts sought by the Senate Intelligence Committee, President Trump will not assert executive privilege regarding James Comey's scheduled testimony.”

And you don't think the President and his inappropriate conversations with Comey are dangerous I take it. My ability to take you seriously depends heavily on how you answer that.
