I remembered liking it when it was on in the 80s and 90s but then after I started watching reruns on BBCA I really can't stand it Data is OK but the rest of the characters are all pretentious idiots

Not really a sci-fi fan but if I had to choose I prefer Firefly

I like Star Trek TNG, but it had a tendency to get fairly preachy. When that happened, it got boring too often.

    Yes, this X 1,000.

I watched a DS9 two-parter recently, "Past Tense" and it was full of social commentary on the homeless, jobless, the poor, and the wealth gap. It's a time travel story where the crew accidentally gets transported to the past.

In 2024 giant sanctuaries covering many, many square blocks of slums had been set up in cities where the government would send these people to get them out of sight and out of mind. There is a 5 minute scene where Dr. Bashir and Sisko are walking these fetid streets with Bashir asking the questions, "how could we let it get this bad? Why don't we treat these people? Where are the jobs?" and Sisko answering his questions. This went on and on and on. Star Trek Church is what I call it.
