Did Satan know Jesus plan?

I guess most of you will say: No. If he had known it he would not have killed him.
But if Satan did not know it then why did Jesus call Peter Satan when he told him not to be crucified? This makes no sense.
And after all Jesus said so often that he has to be tortured and die and so on, was there no demon around who heard it and who understood what this means? I thought that Satan and the demons are smarter than humans, why didn't they get it?

Yes Satan knew Jesus plan. He can read Bible Prophecy about the Messiah. Satan even quote scripture to Jesus in the wilderness when he was tempting Jesus, he told Jesus to throw himself off the building because it was written the angels would catch Him.

Satan was well aware of this Bible prophecy regarding the great controversy between himself and Christ:

Gen:3:15: And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

The reason Jesus told Peter, get behind me Satan, was because Satan was tempting Jesus through Peter. Satan well knew what Jesus was going to do. He wanted to either stop Jesus from following through with it or else if he couldnt manage to do that then he wanted to mess the whole thing up and cause Jesus to lose faith before, or during the crucifixion.

But if he knew it why did he do it? This is like digging your own grave. Not very clever.

Because sin makes you stupid and illogical. He really believes till the end that he, along with all the wicked he can manage to deceive, and the evil angels, will be successful in their attempts to overthrow God:

Rev:20:
7: And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,
8: And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.
9: And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.


Satan has tried to do this since the beginning, when he was Lucifer in Heaven...

Rv 12:
4: And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth
7: And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,
8: And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.
9: And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

And just so you know, this very prophecy regarding the great controversy between Satan and Christ:

...even tells him he will fail.


It means that while Satan would only be able to physically kill Jesus, Jesus on the other hand would totally discredit Satan's lies about God's character in front of the whole world when He so selflessly died on the cross.

Remember the original charge of the serpent in the Garden of Eden was that God told them not to eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil because God just wanted to keep them from realizing that they were gods themselves. He was trying to get our first parents to distrust God's character.

God so LOVED the WORLD that He GAVE His only Son...

Satan only knew God the Son as victor as one who never was defeated. Being tortured and killed was not something that was "the habbit" of God the Son nor had Lucifer ever known Him to do such a thing.

Satan's plan was to offer other incentives NOT to die for humans. One easy one was to make humans so disgusting so revolting so ungrateful so hateful and mean spirited toward THEIR OWN SAVIOR that HE would wash His hands of the whole thing. His OWN disciple would betray Him - one of the inner THREE would DENY Him!

At any second Christ could have destroyed them all and LEFT!

Satan only knew God the Son as victor as one who never was defeated. Being tortured and killed was not something that was "the habbit" [sic] of God the Son nor had Lucifer ever known Him to do such a thing.

This points to why I don't think Lucifer knew the plan. He knew the prophecies, but lacked the imagination to be able to put all the pieces together and understand what God's plan was. He was unable to conceive of the idea that God could turn what looked like a humiliating defeat at the cross into a resounding victory.

Claudia's point does illustrate the fact that Satan got the point. "Get thee behind me Satan" was a sign that Christ knew what Satan was trying to do.

God's Law says that those who sin - die.

Satan and his angels were expelled from heaven under that rule and so Satan considered that this earth once committed to sin - was his.

But Christ shows in Isaiah 53 that His plan was to die in our place FULFILLING that payment required by Law. Satan can read too.

But I think he was incredulous that God would actually do such a thing. In Matt 4 Satan offers Christ a short cut. Saying that Christ did not have to suffer and die for the world - Satan would simply hand it over. The problem is -- that would not satify the Law of God in the least. The sin problem and penalty issue would remain even WITHOUT Satan here to make things worse.
