Yes I did
That's deplorable. So it sounds like there is a widespread rape culture in the military. Is that correct?

Just curious - did you serve in the military?
I did not serve in the military. I have many friends who did, but that was not my calling.

I have great respect for the military, so what you have reported is quite disturbing to me. That needs to be fixed from the top down.

Yes that kind of talk goes on in the military. Yes I am a veteran.

However the correct name for it is braggadocio.

Usually (at least in my experience) there is little or no truth to the boasting.

Full Definition of braggadocio
  1. 1 : braggart

  2. 2 a : empty boasting b : arrogant pretension : cockiness.

First thank you for indicating you did not serve -(this is not meant to be derogatory - rather it would have be easier to say nothing).
In itself, I have not ill feeling for anyone who has not served in the military.

Is the language used deplorable - YES - Does that mean there is a widespread rape culture - NO.
Do most rapists talk filthy - I would assume yes - but that does not mean that all foul mouths end up commit the act.

That would be like saying that all cicarettes smokers - use illegal drugs.
Do most (if not all) druggies started by smoking cigarettes? probably

You say that it needs to be corrected from the top - down - well, if the top speaks like that - it will be hard to change.
I will say this - after women started making up a large % of troops - there was a decrease in the public use of language - but in the billets - anything goes.

Example of braggadocio.

GI giving a description of his weekend pass.

I got drunk this weekend and spent it with 6 women.
Then the sordid and explicit details of what happened with the 6 women.

Truth: He got drunk. Period.

Just looking at a report that says that there were 2500 hundred cases of "total" s- assault. With about 1.5 million troops - that is an instance of 1/600 troops.

I may have misread the report, but here is the link

Now keep in mind that report discusses all "assaults" that could even include staring at someone too long.

But this is really NOT about the crude language, but about the attitude and actions described. He could have said everything without using crude language and it would have been just as bad.

This is what I was trying to explain in another thread.

Again there is locker room talk and there is literally bragging about forcing himself onto women in which cases some of his descriptions qualify as sexual assault. This isn't guys bragging about a consensual hook up over the weekend.

That is what people here seem to be ignoring. I told my husband last night that I don't care that Trump used the p word. And I figure that all this "locker room" excuse is just focused on that word, and I have no doubt that men have all kinds of different names for different parts of the body. But I would be just as out raged if Trump had used the medically correct term in the same context because he would still be bragging about sexual assult. The sexual assult is the issue and watching christian men give a collective shrug to Trump bragging about sexually assaulting a women is what has me the most outraged.

I served in the military and I did not hear men bragging about grabbing women. Maybe times have changed. If they have it is a sad change in our culture.

And, as I have said, if I cannot say it in public I do not say it in private.

Christians are supposed to set examples and not defend immorality of others.

Typically it is guys in their 20's that talk like this before they've been married or had a serious relationship with a woman. Most men outgrow this immaturity. But here we have Donald Trump in 2005, aged 59, who has been married three times (says a lot about his attitude towards women) still saying these things.

Trump was asked in the debate if he had actually done what he had said and he said no.

So he and Mrs Clinton are on the same page - the telling lies page.

So we are left to choose which prevaricator we will support.

Though I am not a Republican I will vote as if I were as they are not pro-murder neither do they have a pro-murder platform.

Trump has managed to get out front and try to minimize the conversation to crude language. Naturally, his lemmings will happily let him.
