Ben posted some important numbers in another thread too. I recommend NAMB because of the salvation message.

Are you a private pilot? Canal Street looks dry. Contact the American Red Cross or FEMA and find out if there is a no fly zone in the area. If there isn't, see if you can air drop supplies.

New Orleans is/was a music Mecca. Anyone with a true love of making music usually turns to that during times of great stress, and yet, in the many hours of video I've watched regarding Katrina - I have yet to see a musical instrument case go by a camera. I can only assume that in that muck of New Orleans are thousands of instruments.

Coming from a family that loved to make music, I am well aware that many people have old instruments in their closets and attics. People keep the acoustical guitars they learned to play on when they move up to the electric guitar. Some keep the half-size cello they had before they moved up to the full size. Some don't play anymore, but hung onto that instrument from high school or college. I am hoping to get people to donate these unused instruments to the survivors of the hurricane, but I can't stir that spirit alone. I am hoping that you might pass on this idea to music students or music organizations.

I am also contacting places like "Gibson Guitar".

I'm not asking people to buy anything, or to give up anything they love. I just think an instrument that isn't being used belongs in the hands of someone who needs an instrument.

Thank you for listening,

Good idea Sky, I think that when people have lost everything, maybe a new instrument could be just the thing to cheer someone up. Maybe even if it were given to someone that had previously been unable to afford to purchase one of their own.

Regarding the music, we had requests for instruments, and we filled them.
