Well, I will certainly remember that next time before I try to answer your questions respectfully and thoughtfully.

Because you're the one who brought it up.

It's perfectly reasonable to ask you to clarify something that you've brought up.

As it is, I have to assume that you have no answer and, thus, your opinions are moot.

That's a cop out. Somehow I doubt that you'd be as rude to your grandfather as you've been to me.

If you didn't want to discuss it, then you should never have brought it up.

If you recall, several of us here warned you not to go down that road. It wasn't because we disagree with you or we didn't want to talk about it.

Frankly, BB has been so slow lately that I've been bored and I'd be more than happy to take on another rock is bad thread.

No, it was because we've already done this and we've already debunked the issues you've raised.

I don't think it says much for your confidence in the rantings of av1611 that you're not willing to stand behind them.

    We have a winner.

    That's exactly what it means.

Or, to put it a different way: "You're mean! I'm going to take my ball and go home! I'm telling my mom!"

And God bless them for being able to do so. I doubt they'd be so charitable if we were to go on onlinebaptist.com and try to make a positive statement about contemporary music.

I'm all for people being able to express their opinions. All I ask is that they do it respectfully and if they're going to do it in a debate forum, that they come prepared to defend it.

It isn't a matter of "seeming rude", it's that your behavior was very rude. You have the opportunity to rectify that now by answering the questions.

I like both of these artists - what may be joyful to one may not be to another

I know I'm going to regret this, but here goes. What does your answer of quoting Psalm 66: 1-2 have to do with any question asked of you? That is a wonderful passage of Scripture, but it does not prove your stance on the music issue. I know alot of CCM that makes a "joyful noise to the Lord". Neither the AV1611 web-site nor do you have any biblical justification for condemning CCM. If you dont like it fine, but your personal standards do not equate to "thus says the Lord".

But you know that this wasn't the question. Why won't you answer the question?

    Irrelevant. Answer the question.

What do you mean you're drawing a blank? What possible reason could they have had for this lie and why are you supporting and furthering this lie?

Again, why are you avoiding the question. Are you now saying that POG doesn't perform Christian music?

That doesn't make a song bad.

What people? What is "rolling"? What in the world are you even talking about?

If the point is that you're not able to back up your claims, then yes, I get your point.

I was hoping that you'd answer the question, but I guess that's not going to happen.

jch-singer, what is your definition of Christian music?
What does a song have to have in order for it to be Christian?

Can a Christian listen to music other than what they use for worship on Sunday morning? IOWS, Can a Christian song be entertaining?

I already know we will disagree on music, but that's OK, I would just like to see what your views are.

Mike I can't answer your questions, but I am smart enough to know that the word contemporary means, more up to date, more like this sin full world, and God told me to be set apart from all that, am I right?:type:

We are to separate ourselves from the world as we are to be one with God

My question is, how do we reach others when the only song that is sung is Amazing Grace?

Some of the Christian Music I listen to have a modern beats to them but the words are Glorifying God and how one can relate to God with today's problems. How is that not being one with God and how is that sinful.

I know the question was not directed toward me, just curious on your thoughts.

    Have a blessed day :flower:

When did "contemporary" begin? Wouldn't most of the hymns in our hymnals be considered contemporary or is there a start date when something new is automatically considered of the devil. I guess the devil was not bringing new stuff into the church in the 19th and 20th centuries. Also, I might add I find it comical for anyone using a computer to correlate new with that which is from the devil.

Brian Free sings a song called "As Long As I Got King Jesus" it has alot of life to the song and get this, I love that song!!! I like the song "You Raise Me Up" and that one was contemporary when I first heard it, but I don't sit and listen to CCM just because they have a few good ones every now and then, CCM has a rep. for being as close to Rock as you can get and still be able to call it Gospel, so I try to stay away from it, that does not mean that you, Mike, Tim or Tony has to do like I do, my convictions are not your alls.:flower:

Now, now...you can do better with that.

Where does God say, "Separate yourselves from anything contemporary?"

However, the Scriptures DO say, "Sing to the Lord a NEW song." (10 times, by the way)
The Scriptures DO say, "Belhold, I am doing a NEW thing!" (Isaiah 43:19)

What you are doing JCH is called eisegesis. It's taking pre-judged opinions to Scripture and conforming Scripture to your already made-up mind. The Bible does NOT say to avoid the "contemporary." Is everything new evil? If so, why are you on your computer?

    Try again.

Then you shouldn't be supporting those lies and promoting those lies if you can't account for them.

No, you're not right. That's not what contemporary means.

Todd Agnew sings a CCM song called "Grace Like Rain. Here are the lyrics:

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost but now I'm found
Was blind but now I see so clearly

Hallelujah, grace like rain falls down on me
Hallelujah, all my stains are washed away, washed away

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear
    And grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear
    The hour I first believed

    Chorus

When we've been there ten thousand years
    Bright shining as the sun
We've no less days to sing Your praise
    Than when we first begun

    Chorus

    Chorus

Do these lyrics look familiar? Is it condemned because the music doesn't conform to someone's taste in music. A lot of the Bluegrass Gospel and traditional Gospel musically sounds like something you might hear in a country nightclub or saloon. I don't condemn it for that. In fact I enjoy traditional Gospel and some Bluegrass. I don't like Hip-Hop music or rap, but I'm not gonna say Christan Rap or Hip-Hop can't praise God. Again it must not contradict the Word of God.

By the way Todd Agnew has sort of a rough voice. Not a smooth voice like you may hear in traditional Gospel. Does this mean he shouldn't sing praises to God? Do you have to have a certain type voice to worship God in song?

    a couple of other thoughts:

At some point, everything is contemporary. It is that way before it becomes old hat. Even the old standards that you (and I!) love were at one point contemporary.

Hymns are largely polyphonic (not just unison; in parts); that was incredibly controversial a few hundred years ago. More than a few Puritans objected to the singing of anything other than Psalms.

I'll repeat my oft-stated views for your benefit here:
    (1) Just because it's CCM doesn't mean I'll use it in worship. "She'll be coming around the mountain" is an OK song, but not appropriate for worship.
    (2) I don't do a song based on how I like the sound or the artist. I make sure that the song glorifies God; otherwise, it's out.
    (3) We use new, old, and ancient stuff in our youth services. We're likely on a Wednesday night to play a set of a 1 year-old song, 5 year-old song, 200 year-old song, and 1,700 year-old song.
