Do animals have souls and or spirits?

If an animal possesses a soul, it is an animal soul, not human. We needn’t anthropomorphize.

Some animals do possess a soulish ability to relate to humans, just not on a human level.
I’ve seen dogs who would give up their lives to defend and protect their people. My mother raised me to respect, indeed honor all life. My Boxer dog provides more love and loyalty to my family that imaginable. God has created them for purposes to serve man and they do, so respect and honor them as creatures created by the almighty.

My Bible Study group knows that I refuse to pray for pets.
I understand that people love them but I also know that there are so many other things of higher importance.

Do people ask for prayer for pets? I have never heard that. I can imagine it is true, just like there are people who are convinced that Elvis is in heaven.

Elvis in heaven?, that's crazy... he was recently spotted out west.

Well there is also the first Hebrew reference. Genesis 1:20, נֶ֣פֶשׁ

And God said, Let the waters swarm with swarms of living souls, and let fowl fly above the earth in the expanse of the heavens. -- John Darby Translation.
Darby is really stretching it with "living souls." I don't think that's what the Hebrew really says.

Dog syntax can be complicated, but the language is scarce on semantic content. :Cool
I agree. Canine Theology is not as developed as other theological systems. For example, Canine Theology is uniquely void of an anthropologic dread of death (no casting of derision upon suppression of breath).

Yet for all we know we about the topic, we have too few Canine theologians within evangelical Christianity. Serious scholarship seems to be lacking. :Cool
